Both the cave and the trail to the cave is breath taking and definitely worth to see! There is a restaurant halfway, where you can authentic food, sweets, coffee and beer. A nice half day trip.

Need a good level of fitness to reach the entrance. 20min walk from entry carpark to the cable car then another 20min walk uphill to the cave entrance. Inside another 700 steps. Worth every step. Amazing ice flows

It is a great experience and I would highly recommend it. A few little tips.
•book your ticket online otherwise you won’t get in
•limited parking at the ticket office but a shuttle bus service is available from the village below which also stops at the train station. It runs every hour. Cash only €8 return
• it is a long hike and a cold cave, Wellington boots are not suitable. Wear suitable shoes, a jacket and gloves.
•a little head touch is a great idea if you are with a kiddo, every second coupe gets a petroleum lamp
•cooked food only available at the cave not at the ticket office
•I am a big dog lover, but seriously this place is not suitable for dogs.. it is a steep dark cave with steps

Absolutely spectacular!! But it’s physically demanding. Must walk uphill quite a ways, get on a gondola, walk uphill again until you reach the ice cave. Then in the cave, there are 700 steps up and 700 steps down. But it’s well worth it!!!

The ice formations are absolutely stunning. It was also fascinating to see layers of ice going back thousands of years. It is definitely worth a visit.
The guide was great and really nice.
The walk to the caves offers stunning views onto the surrounding peaks and valleys.

We went with a 4 and a 7 years old who are very good walkers (they can easily hike several kilometers on steep mountain path) and they both absolutely loved it.

It seems it is usually prohibited to take pictures most of the time. In practice, it would be unsafe in most places with so many stairs, but possible while the guide stops to deliver some information.

Beware that the caves are not accessible to all:
- the walk to the cave can be a bit long and steep for some.
- there are 1,400 steps to go through in the cave (not high, but some parts are very steep). About half the visit goes up the stairs and then the other half goes down.
- the visit is lit with flames, so low lighting can make it uneasy for some to watch their steps properly.

You need:
- warm clothes (0°C in the caves)
- good footwear (recommend hiking shoes)
- be in reasonable physical shape
- If carrying a young child, a back carrier

I first found out about this while looking for things to do in Werfenweng. I had been to some caves before but this one stands alone. It is the world’s largest with ice. Be prepared to walk.

A must visit trip!
Beautiful view on the way up and down... (the hike can be challenging for some people).

Inside the cave additional 1400 steps (700 hundred each direction). Bring warm clothes it's a bit chilly 🥶 inside.

Book place in advance!

Nice scenary when you walk to the cave. Plan for atleast 6 hours to cover this place.
The stairs inside the cave is a bit difficult but the walk to the cave is quite simple.

There is a washroom very close to cave entrance and couple of restaurants on the way.

Amazing place with great views during walk up. It could be hard for older people or small kids. In cave is cold, but all tour inside takes 60-70 minutes and aroumd 700 stairs up and 700 down. Better is it early in the morning. I saw around 20 persons, later there was so much more people.

Great place to visit! The hike is perfect length for children and the views are magnificent (in autumn) ! It is not stroller friendly, so taking a baby or child (hiking) carrier is the preferred option. In the cave itself there are lot of stairs. Dress up properly-it is cold inside.

Extremely beautiful place. A must visit. The views are breathtaking. The trail is moderate but the 1400 steps inside the cave can be daunting. Book tickets in advance.

Highly recommended! It’s worth the price in my opinion. Absolutely stunning to see. You go deep and very high up into the cave with everything changing. The guide gives good information and lights up some of the more fascinating sculptures formed by the ice.
It’s a little complicated to plan your visit there to be honest but once you’re there it’s easy going:
*Pack warm clothing!*

1. book a ticket in advance online
2. there’s parking at the bottom of the mountain with a shuttle that takes you up to the visitor center where you have to be within your time slot that you chose on your tickets. Alternatively, you can take your vehicle to drive up yourself (very steep and curvy roads!) and find parking roughly 10min away from the visitor center which you have to walk.
3. scan your tickets at the visitor center and walk roughly 20min up to the gondola. After that, the time on your tickets don’t matter anymore so take your time. You can either walk a scenic panorama-hike or walk through a lit-up tunnel which is a little less steep.
4. take one of the two gondolas up (2-5min max.)
5. and then walk another 20min to the entrance of the cave. Here you can put on your warm clothes and get ready for the cave.
6. After max 15min you will be let in with a group of roughly 30 others.

If you have a dog that’s scared of heights, darkness or that has sensitive paws, I would recommend not bringing it as you need at least one hand to make sure you’re not falling yourself (steep steps and dark surroundings) and so you can focus on what’s around you - would be a shame to miss.

Breathtaking😍. From the parking lot you have to walk uphill close to 25 minutes to the cable car. Then the cable car ride take around 3 minutes. Post the cable car ride, walk again about 25 minutes uphill to get to the entrance of the cave. In the cave you will visit the 1-1.2 km having around 700 stairs one way. The guide explains in detail about the cave system and it’s history. Don’t miss

The cave is awesome. It takes a while to get to the cave (walking and funicular and walking) but the view from up there is great.
I really enjoyed the visit of the cave especially with the old torch. Our guide was very interesting.
Buy the ticket online as it is cheaper.
Get ready to walk to get there.

Great experience. You need to know that there are two 20 minutes walk ways up the hill. First one to get to the cable car, the second one to get from cable car station to the caves. It's better to have functional clothing on, and bring a winter jacket with you as it can get very cold inside the caves.

Great experience due to the dramatic scenery in the ice cave. It's really something you don't see elsewhere. Totally worth the visit. Dress warmly, inside it's around freezing temperatures. And it's 750 steps on the stairs up and then also down again. Worth noting if you're not a great hiker

Soooo amazing! Super cold in the cave, dress prepared to be in freezing temps for an hr! The walks up we’re not easy but very doable. People were carrying their kids and many elderly people managed just fine.

One of most amazing experiences of life time.
Beware it has 700 steps to climb up and 700 steps down.
And you cannot back out once inside.

Me and my wife carried our daughter,it was tiring but at the eod it was once in a life time experience and totally worth it.

The hike,glaciers inside is amazing.

They have tours in English and German.

Nice experience! Tip: book your tickets online. So you don’t have to wait for entering and also you can park your car more close to the cable, so no need for transfer by van!

Interesting place. But make sure to take warm closes inside the cave itself (even for hot days). Gay and gloves are very recommended, especially for kids. And seven hundred steps up (and later down) could be hard to make for preschoolers, but with the help of the parents, also they will make it :)
Taking photos are not allowed, because tours are guided and taking photos will make delays for the group and others, who follow your group.
