Smitty's Oyster House

Delicious seafood! Great experiences both times I went while visiting from Colorado. This place can get busy so do try to make reservations and plan visit ahead. Had lots of oysters in all the ways, lobster tagliatelle, lamb lollipops, shrimp cocktail, fish n chips, drinks, and more over the visits. I LOVE food and this did not disappoint! I could detail out each item but that would take too long so just enjoy the pics ;)

We came here twice during our stay on the Sunshine Coast and both times it was so good! The food was great, the atmosphere both outside and in was great, and our server was awesome. The oysters were fantastic and we especially liked the scallops, Smitty’s salad, and their fries (they’re hand cut and double fried)

This is the best restaurant in Gibsons if you like seafood! I reccomend that you splurge and get the bucket of crab. It is so delicious! I was a little disappointed that they didn't have my wine choice in stock (Raumbauer Chardonnay), but there were other good choices on the menu. The desserts were pretty yummy too.

I’m craving oysters at this very moment and I need to get more from Smitty’s. The oysters were delicious on their own and with the three sauces that were available. Be careful with their margarita as it was pretty strong, but I didn’t mind at all. The view of the marina, while sitting at the bar, was breathtaking. It can’t get any fresher than this! Will need to make a dinner trip soon!

I had business trip and stayed in Sechelt for 3 day. I have no words to describe how I love the services and food here. Everything is so good and oysters are very fresh.

Seafood to die for! First time trying raw oysters and couldn’t ask for a better place, a mandatory stop if you’re in town. When the dock is closer than a stones throw you know it’s fresh. Drink selection to match the quality of the food and an atmosphere made with love.

Service was great and owner an absolute gem, sounds like the staff ate well looked after so it’s exactly the type of small business to support. Not just a business, a local institution.

Wonderful place with top quality food and a stunning view. I particularly enjoyed the crab cakes , oysters and fish and chips. The tartar was also very good, as were the shrimp. We were 10 people and everything was brought out on a big board to share, beautifully presented. Make sure to get here early as a line builds up from around midday onward.

The service, atmosphere and service here were absolutely incredible!!! If you don't have a great time here there is probably something wrong with you... The staff was amazing and the food was delicious!!!! We will 100% be back!!!

Alexis our server was awesome.. did a group fishing trip of 15 people ... and service was quick... seafood was awesome... standard pricing for food. Would stop by again if close to Gibsons.

Wonderful experience! Never had so many oysters in my whole life.

Their Caesar (drink) was so good that had to drink 3 in a row. All the seafood we had was very fresh and delicious as if they had lived a happy life.

My favorite were the seared scallops, which rested on a piece of perfectly glazed pork belly. The lamb chops were juicy and flavorful with mustard sauce. The fritters and fries were really nice and light, which were like “popcorn halibut” style fish and chips. The ribs however, we found a tad too salty.

All the food we ordered came out very quickly, the staff was very knowledgeable (we learned a lot about the lifecycle of oysters), super helpful and friendly.

Wild place with a very active atmosphere; ie, the place is packed, food is quick, music is loud and the staff are down to chat. If the food wasn’t absolutely mind blowing it would be easy to pass up for something more chill but after trying it it makes a lot of sense as to why it’s so busy in here. The food: we got the scallops, prawns and mussels. Scallops were the highlight for sure, served on a piece of BBQ pork belly if I remember correctly. Prawns and mussels were great as well. Come ready to spend though; it’s high quality seafood with a high quality seafood price tag. Also got a caesar myself and my wife got the beer they recommended for her food, both spot on. With a salad on the side, $109 after tax and tip.

This place jumps(!), the vibe is eclectic and the food is definitely worth coming back for. In warmer weather, get a seat outside if you can. Service was good given how crazy busy the place was and we LOVED the unique presentation: All dishes arrived at the same time on a huge cutting board so it was easy for us to share our meals and take "a little of this and a little of that". As a family, sharing food is a joy for us.

Smitty's has been one of our long-time favorite places, but especially in the summer. Both the Gibsons and Vancouver locations are great.

Love this place! The vibe is exactly what you want for a place on the Sunshine Coast. I don’t think there are any better fresh seafood options in the area. They have a wide variety of options as well. When I go, I like to try all the oysters : fresh, broiled, and pan fried. In my opinion, fresh is best and broiled is second best. You could skip the pan fried oysters to be honest.

Muscles are great! Same with the battered halibut.

Be prepared to spend a good amount of money. Definitely worth a visit.

Business Hours are funky though, and if you can book a reso in advance if you can, because otherwise the wait could be a while.

Stopped by for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised by how good this place is. Seafoods are really fresh and sweet. The oysters we ordered are from the East coast and they are less fishy and more refreshing than the West coast ones. Chowder is very creamy and flavourful. My fav is the oyster dish, there's piece of charred pork belly underneath, which gives it a more complex flavour and another layer of texture, such a great dish!

We visited on our weekend getaway and all I can say is that I wish I lived in Gibsons to be able to go here every weekend! The whole vibe of the place is amazing… the oysters are the BEST oysters I have ever had. The staff were so friendly & knowledgeable giving us a crash course on all the different oyster's. Definitely recommend this place!

Great atmosphere! Staff were friendly, food came quickly and was delicious. If you like Oysters, this is a must go to place.

First time at Smitty's and the wait was a bit long bc they don't have a lot of seating. I think we waited for at least 1 hour for a group of 7. BUT it was worth the wait! Seafood was out of this world done well, very tasty, and good portions. We tried everything on the menu, it seems. Loved the scallops and pork belly dish!

Almost certainly the best restaurant on the Sunshine Coast. Should be in any conversation of the best restaurant in BC.

First off: oysters (obviously). Nice selection of quality product. Knowledgeable and friendly staff to guide you if you need it. Freshly grated horseradish and a healthy array of mignonette and hot sauces to suit all palettes. Top marks.

The rest of the menu covers pretty much everything a seafood lover might be looking for, from mussels to scallops to lobster and crab to fish to crab cakes. It’s all there and it’s all good.

Atmosphere? Fine dining this is not, but it’s not supposed to be. The music is good, the staff is friendly, the decor is charming, and the view is unbeatable. Do yourself a favour and come down on a sunny day to sip a beer or glass of white wine while slurping freshly shucked oysters out of the shell and gazing out over the marina. If that doesn’t do it for you, then as the sign on the restroom door says: “The beatings will continue until morale improves.”
