l'Abri du Benques

My wife and I visited on Oct 23, 2023 and it was fantastic. The restaurants sits right beside a majestic waterfall that you'll cross a bridge over to get to. We were in our hiking clothes since we were exploring the Pyrenees, but this place was honestly a lot more fancy than we thought!! Food was impeccable, beautifully plated, and delicious with fantastic service from the waitresses to match. Incredibly professional in every aspect, and you can't even hear the waterfall rushing just on the other side of the window!

Do yourself and favour and stop by if you have the chance, I can guarantee you won't be disappointed and will be glad you had the experience of enjoying a meal here while you're visiting France. It might even become another highlight of your trip like it did for ours 😊

I've eaten in several restaurants in the area and this has become my favourite, to the point now that I cycle 2000mtr to get to it! I've been twice, and hope to go on another two occasions before I go home, it's a lovely place to visit, and exceptional value too. Keep up the good work! Can highly recommend

Lovely food, very friendly staff, excellent service and wonderful views. A real gem with sensible opening hours (not restricted to 12h - 14h) so it’s possible to have a good walk in the morning and then a long lazy lunch! Dogs welcome too.

What a delightful spot for lunch.

First of all the two waitresses serving we so pleasant and hard working.

The menu of the day, €16 for 2 courses was a bargain.

The food was tasty and well presented.

It has a balcony with a great view of the valley and the waterfalls. Affordable quality food (menu du jour) with friendly staff. Not to be missed on a visit to Pont d' Espagne.

l'Abri is in a particularly charming setting with the Gave du Lutour completing a stunning panorama.

We got there earlier than our reservation but also before the opening of the restaurant, and it is by walking through the open door that we were greeted by Julien Canton himself, that, with a shy smile suggested that we come back after 7:30PM.

Following his suggestion we took a hike up the Lutour but also up the brook that passes by the spa located on the other side of the rod from l'Abri.

And so it is with a solid appetite that we came back to be among the early diners.

The restaurant is just as charming as the setting around it. It uses natural materials and colors to create a subdued and relaxed ambience. The weather (early September 15) did not allow for an outdoor dinner, but I would think it to be quite an experience as well.

The menu was sophisticated with refined flavors that made for an excellent dinner.

We had a complimentary drink/emulsion (served in a flute) that left us a little indifferent, but the rest was a real treat, all the way to the dessert that we could not pass (we did share though.)

In summary, the setting (outside and inside), the ambience and the food made for an unforgettable eperience, and we would love to go back. Of course, from the US, the calendar is uncertain, but we certainly would recommend the restaurant very highly!

What a lovely find. Top notch food. And very reasonably priced. Will recommend. And hopefully return one day.

Gorgeous spot in the Pyrenees mountains, one hour's walk from Cauterets. Also known as "la Raillere". Fantastic waterfalls. Some restaurants and souvenir shops on site. Also a big thermal establishment with sulphurous waters for treating rhumatism. The place is an easy walk from Cauterets and should not be missed! From here you can continue towards other places in the Parc National des Pyrenees, including the "Pont d'Espagne" on the Spanish border.

Tout est proposé pour faire de ce repas un moment inoubliable : un accueil parfait, une équipe très sympathique et de bons conseils, une cuisine raffinée et pleine de saveurs, un cadre intérieur et extérieur magnifique, des prix raisonnables. Des compliments largement mérités, ne changez rien !

Très bon moment un endroit très sympathique, une cuisine pleine de goût et de couleur. Une très agréable surprise. Nous avons mangé à côté d ela cascade.
Mise en.bouche et petit houmous pour le début du repas.

Très bon endroit, à côté de la rivière et des chutes , cuisine belle en couleur et excellente en goût, de la qualité et du service pour que tout soit parfait , je conseille de réserver pour pouvoir en profiter , même hors saison c'est parfois complet

Très bon restaurant avec un menu abordable et de très bon produits avec une super vue .
