We booked a weeks stay in the Chateau as a family of 11 people, grand-parents, parents and kids.
From beginning to end the experience was memorable and will be woven into the family mythology of best holiday ever !

The owners, Alix and Pierre-Augustin were accommodating, easy to communicate with (our French is basic to non-existant) and very helpful.
We travelled in several groups and so arrived at the Chateau over the space of several hours, Alix and the housekeeper warmly welcomed everyone and showed us around the property. We had ordered a cold buffet for our first night and this was delicious and good value.

The Chateau occupies a commanding position on the banks of the Dordogne and the village (La Roque-Gageac) which is just a few minutes walk away.
The Chateau comprises a stunning entrance hall, large kitchen, dining room and enormous living room.
All of the bedrooms are large with modern bathrooms (copious hot water) and superb views over the river and the surrounding area.

We awoke the first morning to the sight of a dozen hot-air balloons drifting by the Chateau.
An amazing start to a totally memorable week.

The pool although not heated, was a welcome relief from the hot temperatures.
The children spent most of their time in the pool.

We visited several of the surrounding villages and markets, enjoying the hustle and bustle of a busy area.
And then retire to the peace and tranquility of the Chateau with so much room to spread out and enjoy the relaxing calm at the end of the day.

Alix recommended eating in a local restaurant (La Belle Etoile), and made a reservation for us for the entire party of 11. This was arranged some weeks before we arrived. And it is obvious why, everything about the restaurant was outstanding. The food was exceptional, they happily catered for a vegetarian in our group. The staff were kind and welcoming. It was truly the culinary and social highlight of our stay.

The visitors book in the entrance hall contains wonderfully enthusiastic comments about the holidays that so many people have had at the Chateau. It is a wonderfully exciting and unique experience for the younger kids, but without doubt everyone enjoyed the facilities, the area and the people during a most memorable holiday.

We have no hesitation in whole-heartedly recommending the Chateau for a large group holiday.

The BEST EVER!! 11 of us, siblings and spouses, spent a most wonderful week here. Our charming Host, the owner’s son, was a joy. He prepared dinner a couple of nights and we were thrilled he agreed to join us. He was delightful, the Chateau was glorious with incredible views. The huge kitchen was great for breakfast gatherings and the enormous terrace was perfect for cocktails and dinners. Our stay was a dream and a memory we will cherish.

I stayed here as part of a group of fourteen to celebrate my father’s birthday. We had a marvellous time. The owners were welcoming, responsive and helpful. The château itself is stunning - it has all the charm of a 19th century accommodations with all the modern amenities. We thoroughly enjoyed spending time by the pool, sitting on the terrace in the evening and gathering in the kitchen for breakfast. We made many very special memories. I highly recommend renting this property for a large group holiday!

We spent a month at the Chateau to celebrate my 70th birthday with family and friends. The chateau Malartrie is rustic, charming, well appointed, and comfortable. The location is stunning overlooking the Dordogne River and Valley. It is close to historic villages, cave art, cave dwellings, and many activities to keep my guests involved and entertained. We especially love soaking up the sunshine by the Chateau pool, canoeing on the Dordogne River, taking hot air balloon rides, exploring the market days at Sarlat, and shopping and eating at local La Roque Gageac restaurants.

The owners, Alix & Pierre-Augustin were extremely gracious, hospitable, accommodating, helpful, and promptly responded to all questions and concerns. The on-site staff were friendly, always available, and responsive to our immediate needs. It was because of the owners and staff that made the overall vacation and birthday celebration a once-in-a-lifetime magical experience. A dream comes true. Thank you.
