Very beautiful place to visit. Unfortunately I had wrong shoes for the time of year, Very muddy in places, I will definitely try again later this year.

Love our walks in the woods and the maze of tracks all around the land. There's no toilets or anything, but it's free parking and there have been lots of improvements made to the car park and the trails recently (May 2022). Lots of dogs and dog walkers, all very friendly - extremely clean and well maintained too. Bins by the car park. It is easy to get lost if you don't know your way around, so take a photo of the map at the top of the hill by the car park. Try and find the bamboo tunnel, the stone snake, the hidden beach, the wicker people and the totem seat. There's quite a few things to discover!

Lovely walks and always new paths to discover. We saw deer, hare, rabbits and a couple of hedgehogs this weekend and of course lots of birds.

Lovely walks in all directions (the wicker man knows the best view!) & right on the doorstep. New upgraded carpark & walkways making it ideal for wheel-chair users. Very boggy at this time of year if you leave gravel path.

Wonderful park that has been and is looked after very well. The walks and paths are easily signposted with 'landmarks' spread around the routes.

Perfect for a walk/picnic

Very large site, currently being replanted with native trees courtesy of woodland trust and their volunteers.
Newly resurfaced car park and trails make it even easier to enjoy these woods

What a hidden gem. Peaceful walking. Some inclines. Well maintained fre car park by The Woodland Trust. Three walks 30 muns. 60 mins and 90 mins. Large field for children and dogs. Young trees planted. Plenty of Oaks. Walking boots or trainers sufficient

Lots of trails to walk, peaceful , birds singing , clear skies, nice warm day , can get muddy and slippery on banks after rain, car parking, seating , wouldn't recommend for the less able and not suitable for wheel chairs

It’s the first time we’ve visited, “The Wicker man” but it won’t be the last, it’s an impressive sculpture with beautiful views of the Durham countryside. It’s just a short walk through fledgling woodland which has already attracted a variety of wildlife and we were accompanied by various bird-song for almost the entirety of the walk, it’s easy to forget you’re only a 15 minute walk from Durham City Centre.

All of the walks are well marked but it is over grassland so not wheelchair friendly although there are one are two seats scattered throughout the walks.

Small car park but it wasn’t full when we were there early on a Sunday evening and there seems to be more parking along the stretch of the road into the car park. Free parking & admittance and the Wicker man sculpture makes it a must visit if you’re in the area.

Visited this place as a Photography Location and I must say the Woodland Trust have done a fantastic job. Very impressive and I visited in March so I bet it's beautiful in the summer. Definitely worth visiting.

A beautiful place to walk the dog or cycle or just walk.
There are great views over the River Wear Valley and plenty of space for children to run.
With lots of different routes depending on your ability there is something for every one.
There's a wheelchair/pushchair path around the top whee you can see the Wicker Man and Children looking over the valley below
