Custom House Porthmadog

My partner and I had a lovely stay at the Custom House. The room was large, beautifully furnished and, together with the shared bathroom, very clean. The view from the windows was simply stunning.
Julian was an excellent host and provided lots of information about the local area. We were made to feel very welcome. We are already planning our next stay at the Custom House and this time we'll include a ride on the railway!

Custom House had everything I needed for my short stay in Porthmadog. Great views over the harbour and the station from the second floor front room. Had a long chat with Justin on the saturday afternoon about trains and motorsport, suddenly realised nearly 2 hours had passed!! The room was well equipped with furniture and excelled where some other hotels cut corners (strong wifi and a fridge for example). Definitely recommend it over the new build chain hotel along the road. Porthmadog high street is worth a stroll, lots of independent shops (and a massive tesco near the mainline station.

My 4 friends and I stayed in the top floor rooms at the Custom House. We had an excellent stay and everything in the rooms was in perfect condition. 3 of the 4 rooms had fridges and kettles. All had small desks and wardrobes.

The location was also excellent. Can't recommend this accommodation and Porthmadog enough!

I have just completed a very comfortable two week stay at the Custom House, Porthmadog. While anyone is welcome here as a base to explore the wonders of Snowdonia, this is especially a building for steam railway enthusiasts as it overlooks the platforms of the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland station. There are few who don’t enjoy watching and hearing a ‘live’ steam engine, the views from the upper floors of the Custom House are unique :-)

Justin – the amiable new owner and host is a fountain of knowledge about all the Welsh trains as well as about the surrounding mountains. There is a self contained one bedroom flat available on the ground floor, then the owner's accommodation on the first floor. On the top floor, there are two double and two single bedrooms, all with comfortable beds, a TV and a fridge. The WiFi works well.

The walls are mostly covered in steam engine pictures, one corner though reserved for motor racing, another of Justin's passions. Since taking ownership, Justin has applied his decades of organising and hospitality experience to make the Custom House a thoroughly enjoyable place to stay!

An amazing 2 night stay. Justin has a lovely home where we were made very welcome. For a train enthusiasts, this place is a must. That said, it's perfect for non train enthusiasts too.
Everywhere is spotlessly clean and lots of covid measures in place without being ott or intrusive (eg hand sanitiser at entrance, private use of bathroom), etc)
Justin is a lovely guy, and I only wish we had more time there to socialise and chat with him.
The room we had was huge with loads of warbrobe space, a dressing table, fridge, kettle and even a couple of chairs and table by the window to watch the comings and goings at the historic train station.
We will def be back when we next visit Portmeirion, which incidentally is a short bus ride over the Cob and then a 20min walk. Or if you're younger and fitter than us, a lovely walk across the cob.
I have nothing negative to say about our stay at Custom House except it wasn't long enough.

Great stay. Place is in excellent location (best views of the Ffestiniog Railway). Rooms were comfortable and the one I was in had a fridge and table.
Justin was friendly, helpful and had good knowledge of the area.

Fantastic

A very clean and comfortable billet for our one night stay, with fabulous views and a welcoming and helpful host, the Custom House is perfectly placed, directly opposite the station for the Ffestiniog Railway, and just a couple of minutes' walk from Porthmadog centre. I will definitely recommend it to friends who may be travelling to the area.

Justin was very friendly and accommodating. The location is perfect for exploring the local area. Rooms and shared bathroom are clean and well maintained. Really enjoyed my time there.

Down trodden place with poor caretaking
