Peak Edge Hotel and Red Lion Restaurant, Darley Road, Chesterfield, United Kingdom, S45 0LW
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We decided to celebrate my wife's birthday at the Red Lion Restaurant and what a delightful experience it was! Right from the get-go, the staff were nothing short of wonderful, providing attentive and helpful service throughout our visit. They even went the extra mile to write a birthday card for my wife, which was a lovely touch.

The starters were absolutely delicious, setting the stage for an exciting meal. However, when it came to the mains, we encountered a slight hiccup as the restaurant had run out of potatoes for mash. But, not to worry, the staff were quick to offer some tasty alternatives, ensuring our dining experience remained uninterrupted.

Admittedly, we found the food a tad too salty for our liking, but overall, it was still very enjoyable. The view from the restaurant added to the charm of our evening, making it even more special.

In summary, despite a few minor issues, the outstanding service and the beautiful setting of the Red Lion Restaurant made my wife's birthday celebration memorable. We wholeheartedly give it 5 stars and look forward to returning in the future.

Excellent Boxing day menu. Food was glorious. Service exemplary. This hotel restaurant has proper ambience too. A really lovely place. I hadn't been since the 1990's. My, it has certainly been taken up-market. Highly recommended.

Came here for dinner for a Birthday meal. We were greeted by very friendly staff and were give menus for dinner.

Drinks were amazing, steaks were outstanding and we will definitely be visiting again.

What a fab place to stay. Beautifully furnished and immaculate throughout. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed over after a 21st birthday party, the buffet was delicious and the party room was lovely. Breakfast certainly didn't disappoint with plenty of choice and cooked to perfection.

We got married here on the 4th of February and it was truly the greatest day of our lives. The hotel is stunning, clean, beautiful and it smells amazing. I cannot speak highly enough of every member of staff at Peak Edge. From Laura and Fran who coordinated our day on the day (and Laura who killed it from the moment we confirmed our big day), to Tim and Beth who ran the day from start to finish. You played such a huge part in the start of our lives together and we will truly never be able to thank you enough. We’ll be back every year.

Went for a late lunch. Beautiful location and the hotel and restaurant was equally beautiful. Excellent customer service and great attention to detail. Food spot on with generous portions and wide selection on menu

We had a lovely 2 night start with our dog Archie Pom. We made the booking through Carmel and she was extremely helpful. I explained my current treatment with chemo and she kindly sorted out our restaurant booking - so grateful. Thank you. We had cosy evenings by the log fire in The Red Lion which was very welcoming.
Our only criticism was the charge of £30 per night for our little dog. There was no bed or bowls provided for him. (Luckily we did bring our own so we were ok!) We've had these provided in the past at dog friendly hotels.
But we did thoroughly enjoy our stay and would very much like to return.

I had the pleasure of staying at Peak Edge Hotel, and I must say it was an excellent experience from start to finish. The hotel boasts beautiful grounds that create a serene atmosphere, making it a perfect place to unwind. The hotel itself is equally stunning, with charming architecture and well-maintained interiors.

One of the standout features of our stay was the connected restaurant, where we were delighted to bring our furry companion, Winston. From breakfast to dinner, the dining experience was top-notch. The food was not only delicious but also served with care and attention to detail. The staff were friendly and accommodating, making us and Winston feel right at home.

Overall, our stay at Peak Edge Hotel was memorable and enjoyable. The combination of the beautiful surroundings, the comfortable accommodations, and the exceptional dining experience left a lasting impression on us. We would not hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend it to others looking for a relaxing and welcoming getaway.

If you like converted old buildings with character and charm, then this venue is for you.

Fantastic staff that were very professional even through a tough situation on the 1/1/24.

We didn't eat, so can't advise on food; but we will be heading back soon!

We wanted to celebrate an important family birthday, we booked for our party of 12. Having read some previous reviews, I was concerned the evening meal might turn out a disappointment.
It turned out to be perfect.
Our guests were welcomed with warmth and a truly professional touch, by Paolo.
Throughout the evening he kept a quiet watch on our needs and nothing was missed. The service by all the staff was nothing short of the best.
The food, previously reviewed as small portioned, certainly not our experience!
Starters were delicious, tempting and showed a touch of magic, to start the meal off.
Main courses followed and everyone commented on the presentation, variety of ingredients and style. There were certainly many more than five or six, chunky chips with the steaks. The vegetable risotto was enough for two!
I had chosen both starter and main from the daily fish menu. The sea trout was, for me, a perfect starter. The Dorado in a caper butter and a side of mixed greens, absolutely perfectly cooked, seasoned and presented.
The brigade in the kitchen certainly worked with a quality deserving the AA rosettes (maybe deserving another one?)
We brought with us a bespoke birthday cake and this was served for us, cut, cutlery and plates. (£3 per person)
Which is a fair cost to cover the service.
The bar was excellent and the choice of both gins and whiskies, broad and varied. Kenan, served with charm and knowledge. All drinks and meals are now ever increasing, wherever you go.
Our evening was at a cost we expected.
Our memories are invaluable.
We will certainly be recommending the Peak Edge' to others and ,I suspect,
returning for quiet meals as a couple, in the near future.

Incredible as always. Our 3rd stay in 3 years and we always enjoy our stay. 100% recommended staying here if you're planning a weekend away. Breakfast is always top notch and the rooms are beautiful. We will be stopping again next year for our annual visit to Chatsworth and Bakewell. Josh is fantastic 👏

We only stayed the one night , but cannot fault anything . From the moment we checked in till the time we checked out the service was first class , very friendly and pleasant staff, the food was very good and I particularly liked the table plan in the restaurant, didn't feel like you were eating with strangers.

Just an overall very pleasant stay and would highly recommend the hotel .

Thank you for a nice stay .

Beautiful place. We visited at Xmas and the decor felt very special. I imagine in summer the outside areas would be spectacular also. The room was lovely and the food first class.

Lovely staff, great views. The rooms were lovely and clean as well as super comfortable! The beds were the best part.

Some things that need work are the taps in the shower and bath, as they are reversed (the cold setting gives hot water and vice versa).

The sinage for the hotel could also be better as it is quite a sharp turn off the main road and you might not know you need to turn until you've gone past it.

Overall it was a great stay though!

An absolutely beautiful hotel within superb grounds. The food at the Red Lion restaurant is fabulous, the only thing I would say is the service is a bit too fast and needs slowing down as you feel a bit pushed. The staff are wonderful, from reception to the restaurant.
