George Inn

I recently stayed at The George Inn and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The rooms were spotlessly clean, modern in their amenities, and maintained at a comfortable, warm temperature which was much appreciated. It felt like a cozy haven after a day out.

Dinner at the pub was another highlight of our stay. The food was delicious, with a great selection of dishes that seemed to cater to all tastes. The atmosphere in the pub was inviting and lively, making our evening meal even more enjoyable.

The staff at The George Inn were friendly and attentive, ensuring our stay was pleasant and comfortable from start to finish. I highly recommend The George Inn to anyone looking for a warm, modern, and welcoming place to stay with the added bonus of great food right on the premises.

Took pot luck and booked at short notice and was pleasantly surprised. The room was tastefully furnished with great facilities and a good selection of teas / coffeees hot chocs and biscuits. The staff were 1st class and the included breakfast was a great end to our stay. I would recommend and would stay again without hesitation.

We had a lovely overnight stay in this charming hotel. The room was very comfortable and well equipped. We loved the traditional feel of the place and enjoyed a great meal in the restaurant. The staff were very friendly

The staff was amazing! The rooms were some of the nicest rooms in our entire trip! We were stuck in a situation with no where to stay and the staff at the George stepped up and helped 3 Canadian women with kindness and respect. Food was absolutely first rate. Hatherleigh is a lovely town and the residents are amazing. We hope to return again and stay longer. The rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. Everything you could need was supplied!! Thank you.

We stayed here for a friend's wedding down the road. Our room was a wheelchair accessible room (we didn't request this but it wasn't a problem either), nice and big, can be twin or double. We had dinner there, lovely pub grub and huge portions, and breakfast was lovely too, though would have liked to have been offered another tea/coffee but not the end of the world. Would definitely recommend

My girlfriend and I had an awesome stay here. We arrived on bike - The George is pretty much on the half way point on the coast to coast route and were greeted with a friendly welcome, great pints, nourishing food and clean, smart rooms - we even had a bath to soak away the bumps from the ride. Thank you for having us.

Have visited the George for supper 3 times lately ..Its really lovely food ..amazing service .A real find ..will be back soon .

Stayed here for two nights and wow.... Was we surprised. If I could give more star's I would, rooms were fantastic, service ace, clean and food excelled. Shower with good pressure (always a good start) plenty of parking and entertainment. Situated in a town called Hatherliegh, this town is a great place to which to explore north and south Devon. Hopefully going back later in year.... If we can get in. 😉

A very pleasant place to stay. Lovely rooms, good food and drink topped with good service. Good value. Recommend you try it for yourself if you get the opportunity.

Lunch excellent and a young lady all on her own running things very well indeed. Very comfortable seating, dated but immaculate in appearance. Very old pub in excellent order and toilet area features modern amenities including renovated overhead "pull the chain" cisterns from days gone by...most unusual! Would happily call in again for lunch.

Fantastic overnight stay.
Arrived in Hatherleigh by bike to stay the night and there's not much choice. Was going to stay at the Tally Ho but they haven't opened rooms since COVID started and they gave us the mobile of a B&B that didn't pick up so we blew our budget on the George.

So glad we did. The lady that checked us in was lovely, showed us where to out the bikes, arranged for someone to get the bikes out in the morning, showed us up to the room and asked the chef to make up a packed lunch as we had to leave before breakfast began. (Just eaten the brownie and it was probably the best brownie I've tasted in my life)

The room was very comfortable and the bath/shower especially was horgepus. Big bath and powerful hot shower which was just what we needed after a day's bike ride.

All in all highly recommend.

Been once or twice in the past (after the fire they had) and came back. Staff are excellent, great sense of humour. The menu satisfied everyone (2 adults, one 8 year old), there were no problems with what was available, good selection of ales and beers. They catered for the child just fine (although no colouring pens for Covid reasons). The meal was hot, clearly homemade and very tasty. Slightly more on the pricy side but fair and not outrageous. Prompt service, felt taken care and very welcome. Plenty of hand cleaning stations, the toilets are stunning!

Stayed here for 1 night after getting married, room 1 . 4 poster bed , rolled top bath, wet room. The staff put rose petals on the bed and left a bottle on ice, nice touch. The food was good and the staff were brilliant. Would definitely go back.

We really enjoyed our dinner here.
The pub is very well presented, good selection of drinks and very good Covid safe operation.
We had seafood platter, pies and steak which all were delicious.
The staff were very friendly and attentive.
Dog friendly and would very much like to visit again 🍻

Excellent food. All meals were lovely. Never stayed there but the restaurant and bar are lovely. Staff are all so friendly and excellent at their jobs. There wasn't a great deal of choice on the menu but the quality of the food was superb. I think that's why the food was so wonderful. They say less is more and this is proof of it 😍

I love staying here, I have stayed 5 or 6 times over the last 12 months and enjoyed it everytime. The food is great and the rooms are lovely. All the staff are helpful and will do what ever it takes to make your stay comfortable, including accommodating late arrivals! I stay in many different hotels around the country throughout the year but the George is by far the best in terms of value and quality. Well done to the team.

We stayed overnight here on short notice, and it was amazing - a lovely room, great service, and comfortable bed.

Our one negative was that we slept with the windows open, and were woken by the town clock fairly early in the morning. Mentioning this on check in would be great if you're facing the front of the building.
