We had an absolutely wonderful stay here last weekend. A true gem of a place - we fell in love with it straight away! The renovation is absolutely awesome. We loved how you've kept elements of the classic old Cumbrian pub (flagstone floors, wooden beams) but with thoughtfully done, beautiful modern updates.

It's a perfect location for a weekend of running in the fells and the food was magnificent fuel for our activities! The three-course meal was totally delicious, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients - mention must be made to the best pudding I've eaten out... ever! (Blood orange posset topped with Yorkshire rhubarb... phwoar!) And awesome hearty breakfasts perfect for big appetites!

Room was beautiful and very comfortable and a reasonable price for the Lakes.

And finally - huge shout out to the incredibly lovely staff (especially Emily and Rosina) who were friendly, attentive and hilarious and made our stay a joy. Thank you so much, we will be back!

Lovely hotel well-placed for fabulous walking from the door. Rooms are comfortable, and the public lounge is a cosy place to sit by the fire, play a game or chat to fellow guests. Highlight for me was the food - both breakfast and dinner are excellent quality and value, and they have an interesting wine list.

Had the most fabulous stay at The Royal Oak. Exceptional service, comfiest beds, great shower and the best food I have had in The Lake District. This is such a lovely hotel with great ambiance and facilities, would highly recommend

The best hotel for a break in the Lake District! The staff were so friendly, the food was amazing! The rooms and decor of the hotel made it feel so homely. 100% would recommend! We’re already planning our next trip back!

Was spot on for me location wise...Anne the manager had a great team of staff who looked after me. Parking was perfect as i carry a lot of gear....a couple of issues let it down on the room front, heating used to go off in the afternoon and when you get back cold and wet and its not much above freezing outside you want to dry your gear and warm up...the other issue i had was the walls/ceiling were paper thin so i was kept awake at night by the insomniacs above me...which was a shame as i am a bed early up early to catch the light...if it wasn't for those issues it would have been 5 stars all round.

I want to compliment this hotel for their renovations obviously made recently. I have NEVER seen such a tastefully done renovation of an older space. And I have also NEVER seen a renovation that clearly considers what a guest might like and need, and then make it so! We stayed with you one night in September, as we did a walking tour for 9 days. I know all rooms are not the same, but since they were all done at the same time, probably this applies to the others too. Staying in many hotels during and after our tour, we saw expensive examples of renovations that just 'fail', seemingly designed and implemented by those who have never stayed in a hotel room. ....

So having stumbled upon this little gem off the beaten track and what a find. Room was great, nice clean spacious and quite. Checking in and out easy as. Food was just splendid just what we expected and at a great value. The walks and views were just stunning and we got the peace and quiet we were looking for. The service staff were just great, they even had 2 kiwi's working and the Sisters were a delight. The 5 Star is well deserved, well done and keep up the good work. To the reader of this if you are thinking about a visit... just go

No better place to stay for a gruelling weekend of walking. The staff, the food and the accommodation were outstanding. Just what we needed.

Stylish, modern hotel that has been decorated with great attention to detail.
Large, comfy room with great bed and very comfortable mattress. Nice shower with good water pressure.
Amazing breakfast selection, eg really tasty porridge. What a nice change to the ubiquitous English breakfast (which I also love, but not every day).
Cosy bar with several small sitting rooms for a lovely quiet drink. Loved the quirky duck wallpaper with matching armchairs! :)

We stayed here for a couple of nights, on a weekend to hike Helvellyn. Had a great experience from start to finish. Rooms were spacious and clean.

There is a little bar, and reception rooms to relax and have a drink (or play a board game or two). Had great conversation with staff members such as Patrick, and the general manager Ann. Breakfast was made to order and spot on. Great, quiet location in the valley. No complaints whatsoever.

This is the first visit to The Royal Oak Hotel but it wont be our last. The minute we turned into the car park, we felt welcomed. The establishment was renovated July 2022 and it has been done very sympathetically to the area. They have kept its charm but give it a much appreciated update. All the rooms are just charming, from the bar area to the dining area and even the drying room is well presented. Our room was lovely and very very well decorated. Clean, warm, beautiful and then there is the en suite which is fabulous, tasteful and at last a shower which actually works perfectly.

We ate in both nights for dinner and we were not disappointed. The food is lovely. Breakfast very good and tastey.

Staff were attentive and polite and went that extra mile to make everyrhing perfect.

We have stayed in many places in the lakes and always come away disappointed until now. This place is a gem and well worth a stay.

Wonderful location and excellent hotel. We had a four poster suite and it was beautiful. Bath was very welcome addition after long walk on hills. Also had a shower.

Breakfast was excellent but didn’t try evening meal or bar as pub next door and only short stroll to langstrath inn.

We absolutely loved it here, it had everything, amazing location, amazing staff and rooms and amazing view. It really feels like a home away from home. The food was lovely and the staff were so kind and so amazing. Anne and Daniel were great to chat with and all the staff were kind and caring. The room was stunning with a gorgeous view of the beck and the bed was so unbelievably comfy. The room was spotless too and well stocked with hot chocolate and coffee. We will definitely be going back there again!

Spent 2 nights here, and it was wonderful. Comfortable rooms, relaxing bar/lounge areas, wonderful food (breakfast, great value packed lunch and dinner) and friendly, helpful staff all made for a perfect stay. Also essentials after a wet mountain walk - a hot shower and a drying room!

We recently had the pleasure of a two night stay at The Royal Oak Hotel.
Ann and her wonderful team really made it a memorable visit. From the great rooms to the amazing food, we brought our dog too, who loved it just as much as we did! it really is a magical spot to stay in the Lakes.
But the best part, the lovely personal service, a home away from home.

First visit and already looking forward to returning. The hotel renovations are excellent. We stayed in a superior room (No24) overlooking the beck, with separate seating area, comfortable bed and bathroom with both bath and shower cubicle. The staff were very friendly making time for a chat. We had an evening meal both nights and it was delicious along with the breakfasts. (both with vegetarian options) There was an excellent modern drying room, very handy for the Lake District weather! Also excellent and easy parking round the back of the hotel. We really enjoyed our stay, so thank you very much and we will see you again

Like to say thank you to Anne and Rezina for making our stay special. Very hard working and very pleasant ladies. The hotel is a beautiful and very peaceful place to stay with beautiful views. Food is outstanding as they say we eat with our eyes and it tasted as good as it looked. Five starts is not enough. I am highly recommending Roayl Oak Hotel. Thank you for having us. And our dog loved it too.
