The Plough Coton in Cambridge exceeded expectations. The waitresses provided exceptional service with genuine warmth, ensuring a delightful dining experience. Kudos to the chef for crafting dishes that not only pleased the palate but also showcased culinary excellence. The combination of attentive staff and outstanding food makes The Plough Coton a must-visit gastropub in Cambridge.

The new menu at the Plough is excellent. Several attractive items to choose from: it is our second visit this week, and we will come again soon.
::::::::::
Another visit, and I fear - another disappointment. The atmosphere in the pub is brilliant, it's a really pleasant place to be. But the menu had very few things attractive; we tried "Asian salad with soft crab", and the very basic salad was old, far from fresh (as if it was cut yesterday). What's going on in their kitchen?
-------
I am forced to write an update: we visited yesterday and found they changed the menu (as is appropriate from time to time). The new menu was quite disappointing though: the excellent dishes are gone, the pork belly has little flavour, the plaice as well (plus the rubbery gnocchi wasn't a good add), several other dishes were quite/below ordinary. Hope the next change of menu comes soon.
...........
This is not my first review of The Plough in Coton, but I felt compelled to write again. The atmosphere is as good as ever, the staff are happy and not stressed, enjoying themselves (mostly). It's important to have this good energy, it passed over to the floor.
But my main point was the food. They changed the menu last Thursday, and there are at least four main dishes we would have to come back for to taste... Today we had octopus, and whoever is in their kitchen - they have my respect: it is not easy to cook octopus that tender, and the whole dish works very well together. Again, you can only cook that well if you have good energy, and I wish it continues at The Plough

I visited this beautiful pub yesterday and was absolutely blown away by the incredible experience. The staff were all wonderful and so helpful, going above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic visit. Despite running late, the staff were incredibly accommodating and made us feel welcome.

The food and drinks were exceptional, and the atmosphere was simply amazing. I highly recommend this pub to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. I will definitely be returning in the future.

Lovely Boxing Day Lunch, no problem in moving tables as my father is hard of hearing with a lot of background noise. Attentive staff and would love to visit again.

Dinner with the family and kids. Mike and his staff were fantastic in looking after us as soon as we were seated. Patient and attentive to our requests even with kids being kids. Service was quick, efficient, accommodating with a good attitude. Food very good. There's a large terraced area at the rear and a decent sized adventure park for kids all the way down the back. Definitely worth a visit.

Fantastic food and service.

We visited on a Friday lunchtime and it was busy but the service was still fantastic. We had a wonderful waiter called Callum who made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed.

We ate:
Scallops with pea puree
Camembert with red onion and gluten free bread
Cote du boeuf with chips and peppercorn sauce. This was just for the two of us but could have easily served 4!

The food was delicious, I especially enjoyed the peppercorn sauce.

Had booked, but was running late on a Sunday evening and they still accommodated me for dinner, much appreciated as I had been driving for about 4.5 hours that day.

Staff were lovely, just the right balance of attentive without being pushy, friendly without being intrusive. Pleasant, happy and kind.

Food was lovely, especially the roast porchetta, and a huge serving at a reasonable price.

Only slight downside for me, was one table with children, letting them watch videos on the phone with the volume up... And a "dad" at another table chuntering on about a set menu, when there was clearly no set menu. Don't get me wrong, if something isn't right, I'll complain, but this fella forgot to put on his big boy pants and needed to calm down. TBF None of which was the pubs fault!

So all in all, a definite recommendation from me!

And did I mention that the staff were fab!

Fantastic dinning experience.

We were staying in hotel close by and decided to venture to this local gastro pub for a drink. We were so impressed, we decided to book for Sunday lunch the next day. Luckily we managed to get booked in.

It did not disappoint! We both went for the pork roast. Generous portion, great quality and outstanding service. Also recommend the cauliflower cheese.

We'll be coming back when we're in the area.

Thanks!

This is the best restaurant in the area!!
The restaurant itself is very cosy and they have a nice terrace outside, which is the perfect location if the weather is nice.
The food is good, and they have a good selection of wines.
But the best about The Plough is the service. They make you feel welcome from the second you walk in, and they are all very friendly and helpful. A big thank you to Pasquale, Gabby, Mike and Callum!!

Great lunch at the Plough, Harriet really looked after us, I had the chicken Caesar salad which was nicely prepared. Great spot especially when the sun is out.

Great place. Good quality-price. Good service. Great location, is on the countryside of Cambridge but it has easy parking for cars and a cab from Cambridge City Center was £12. Highly recommended.

These guys take a lot of pride in what they do and to make it a pleasant experience. Food was amazing. Management clearly work hard and want everyone to enjoy the meal. All the staff were friendly and the menu is a nice balance between the fancy meals and the simple stuff done well. Reading some of the negative reviews about the small portions is unfair, more money doesn’t mean more food, that’s like saying why buy a Ferrari when I can buy a van for 10% of the price and you get so much more space, you’re paying for quality, ingredients and atmosphere. Thank god I don’t own a restaurant, people are clearly impossible to please.

Brilliant pub. Staff and customers are friendly and chill. The service is super efficient but without making you feel rushed. Quite the opposite actually.
The choice of drinks is amazingly well curated.
I fully intend to work my way through all the food menu. Had the pork roast, torched mackerel, ribeye, Eton mess and they were all to die for.
Apparently the menu changes next week so that's my excuse to go back again sorted 😁.
The actual building and garden is lovely. Practical car park and kids have their own playground 😊.

Absolutely beautiful place. Walked here from my accommodation (rectory farm) and the food was incredible. Staff were lovely and attentive, despite it being busy. Beautiful seat under a tree watching the world go by. Totally recommend.

Very good dining. Cod a bit overpriced and overcook for what you get.
Apart from that it was good dining experience.

One of the best Sunday Roasts around Cambridge.
Food is as tasty as well presented. There's also a rather cosy and distinguished atmosphere.
Service and overall quality above the average pub.

Had the most delicious porchetta roast dinner today, I felt compelled to write a review. The place was busy, as always, but the food and service was perfection. Never had a bad meal here but today's was something else!

Absolutely stuffed and happy at home thinking about it now.... yum!!

My stepdad had the seafood pasta and was equally pleased with his meal. Nice to get good variety on a Sunday also. Will 100% be back soon.

Excellent food. I had roast duck, plenty of food, very nice dessert and starter. Couldn't fault it. Efficient and friendly service. People were also prepared to sit outside. So must be popular especially now weather has got a bit cooler. Plenty of parking as well.
