This is an active archaeological site. There are no facilities. It is an ideal area as part of a countryside walk.
There is some interesting information about the castle and its origin, for those interested in local history.

Fascinating ruins of a castle that is still being excavated with interesting discoveries. The views from the top of the hill are lovely.

There's offroad parking enough for 3 cars right by the entrance. It was dry when we went but the access is quite steep and I imagine it would be very slippery in bad weather.

A castle that barely anyone has heard of, saved from obscurity and collapse by a group of local and passionate people. Possibly built to protect the Saxons well before the Normans invaded and evidence of both stone and Bronze Age habitation. What is left is the remains of a 12 sided keep and a twin turreted entrance. The view is extensive on all sides at this strategic area. Excavations at the moment are being undertaken at the chapel which is at the base of the keep steps. There is a small parking area to the side of the entrance to the castle. It has a steep climb up to it. It relies on donations for its upkeep and you can purchase a guide leaflet for a £1 slipped into an honesty box. There are tables there to use and benches to sit. The view is to die for and certainly takes your breath away. Not suitable for wheelchairs but a great place for dogs.

Ruins of an old Norman castle built circa 1070s, this is an important piece of history and a beautiful place to visit. Every July, archaeological excavations occur, where you can engage with students and professors to get a better understanding of the site. The main ruins are ontop of a step hill, so be careful going straight up, or try taking the "sless slippery way up." Also please respect the crumbling stones, they have stood for almost 1000 years, and we want them to last another 1000 with your help.

Recently rediscovered and gradually being restored hilltop castle. Wonderful location in the Golden Valley. Limited off road parking nearby, accessible site but not wheelchair friendly. Recent work means there are steps to the top of the motte and down to the North keep. Free to enter with a large information board at the entrance giving details of recent work, finds and appeal. There is also a site guide available at £1, a bargain!
The site is extensive and more is being uncovered, (see recent chapel excavations). This is a great place to visit, even on a dull day. Stop off and support the Preservation Trust particularly the Castle Chapel appeal. Well worth it!

What a wonderful place, a recently gently restored castle where you can spend time wondering about its fascinating past. This castle is almost unique in having a chapel designated as a Royal Peculiar. The local volunteers have done a great job and a handy leaflet is available for a small donation. Great history and great views

Well worth a visit. Fascinating place and being there you get a good sense of how magnificent it would have been in it's heyday. I'll be back in the Spring 🌼

One of Britain's earliest Norman castles set in the spectacular scenery of The Golden Valley.
This place is a must for anyone who loves a bit of history, or just likes being out in Britain's world class countryside.

Wonderful hidden little gem!! This castle is being lovingly cared for and in parts restored by a group of volunteers.
Has a small carpark on the side of the road and an information board with lots of great information on it.
Definitely somewhere to take a trip to if you want a relaxing hour looking over the Wye Valley and exploring. Benches to sit and view the local area and plenty of grass so you could picnic.
Donations accepted to help the restoration work.

This is a small castle with no cafe, toilets, etc. It isn't somewhere to go for a whole day out but certainly a nice place to visit on the way to other places.

Spectacular location and view. Amazing history which is still being uncovered by the young archeology students working there.
Pretty narrow roads to access and very steep up to the top but worth it

Free to visit motte and bailey castle. Not easy to find but worth the trouble.

Worth the visit if you're in the area! I decided to grab a flask and visit just before sunrise, the drive there itself was worth it.

A great site with enough to ponder along with the sound of wildlife doing their morning routine.

We visited at 8:30 in the evening so we were the only ones here. Work is going on to re-enforce the curtain wall and the site was littered with building paraphernalia, but it did little to detract from the peaceful atmosphere and weight of history here. The climb up to the ruin is steep and should be approached with care but well worth the tottering descent afterwards.

Wonderful example of a Norman castle and being renovated by a group of enthusiastic people who love Snodhill
We spoke to a lovely lady who is either the secretary or treasurer of Snodhill Castle but whose name we didn't catch
She told us a lot about the castle..the work they are doing..all very interesting and thank you!!

Great ruins to explore. You can leave a donation following your visit to help with the upkeep, and you can park near the entrance. Brilliant views of the surrounding countryside. We were there for about an hour looking around. You can get a guide at the entrance for £1 which guides you around the ruins with information about its history.

Well worth a visit.

No on site facilities.

Interesting ruins although not a lot to see. The views make up for it though. Beautiful.

A fascinating hidden gem that deserves more notice. A border castle that seems to have fallen out of history. Well done to the volunteers that are restoring this special part of our border story.
