The Mermaid Takeaway

Such a lovely food takeaway. Went there today for the first time, ordered a kids sausage and chips. it came with a capri sun, a curry sauce and the sausage and chips itself. The woman serving today was absolutely lovely, so lovely to have a woman like her on the front of their business. The portion size was fantastic! Never had a child’s order have a good sized curry sauce included! The sausage was a jumbo sausage too which was extremely good for the money! It was £4.90 for the lot and when you consider how much you get, that’s so cheap. The chips were cooked perfectly and the curry sauce was proper chippy curry sauce. Today was my first time coming to Bude, even though I am Cornish, but when i next come, The Mermaid will be the first place i come back too! Really really pleased, support small people!

Had 2 large cod and 1 large chips here last night. Cod was epic, skinless and boneless, and huge. Full of lovely white fish too and not just all batter. Chips were very good too despite the fact I had to drive nearly 10 mins home before I could open the box.

All in all a very good experience and would definitely eat here again.

A wonderful little fish and chip shop, food freshly cooked for you. Great portion sizes, and a helpful staff. We all agreed so nice that we shall have to come again.

Had a delicious fish and chips sat on a bench overlooking the sunset at Summerleaze beach. The fish was very white and tasty, with a crispy batter. The chips could have been crispier, however they were delicious with a curry sauce. A large portion of chips was plenty to share between two people. Will definitely be coming here again when next staying in Bude!

These were the best fish and chips I have ever eaten. The chips are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the in. The fish was really fresh and tasty with crispy batter. Fabulously tasty.

Just popped in now, whilst staying away. Knew it would be good as there were several people waiting. Didn’t disappoint! Chips taste great and jumbo sausages were decent!

Staff were friendly and polite. Cash and card taken too.

Don’t waste your time going to any other chippy in Bude!

Really enjoyed our fish and chips. Really tasty. we ordered large, and boy, the fish didn't disappoint! Defo be back next trip to Bude

Takeaway. Very happy with our cod and chips. I ordered for 6 people and I was given an extra piece of cod because some of the fish was small! I would never have known. Crispy batter. Lovely fish and chips. We thought that it was a very good price compared with what we have paid.

Very busy fish and chip shop. Lots of customers were waiting for their orders ...a good sign, for sure. We got small cod (perfect size for me and one which you don't often see) chips, cheeseburger n chips and a saveloy with a gherkin...the food was enjoyed very much and tasted great. Staff here are efficient and on the ball, all working like a perfectly oiled machine. Well worth the short wait, around 20 mins. 😋

Checked reviews and saw generally good so gave The Mermaid a go. Good sized portions - not TOO big- so ideal. Tasty fish, well cooked chips, nice and hot and cooked to order, so there was a short wait from order to food, but that's fine. Really enjoyed it. Thanks

Cracking fish and chips, and a short walk to the sea for a great view while enjoying it. This review was written in 2020 so you go in one at a time to order them leave the shop, they then call you when the order is ready which works really well.

Great take away fish and chips. Really fresh fish and excellent batter.

made the mistake of ordering a large cod chips & peas
when i got home and unwrapped it GOD it was a whale chips and peas it was a massive piece of cod
too much for me
next time i will get the small
but all the same it was delicious

Queuing out into the street to get in, always a good sign👍fish and chips and scampi were delicious. Cod portions are huge as small here is anothers large! The batter is crispy and light, even after a 15min walk in the rain. Best fish and chips in bude

Really enjoyed the fish and chips, large portions, perhaps the best one we ever had. Fresh and tasty. I recommend this place for all time classic food.
