I enjoy baking wild yeast bread, and unlike so many 'sourdough'(sic) selling shops, Rise is the real thing! Excellent and generous breads and cakes served by extremely accommodating staff. The owners really are superb bakers, allowing the proper 3 days' preparation and fermentation time before baking. Very highly recommended

Second time back to this bakers, unfortunately as I don’t live in Barny I found the bakers shut on two occasions.
The simple comment on the taste and selection is simply stunning!
The breads selection and taste are fantastic, as are the tarts, the pies, the bakes, the focaccia, I could go on.
The sage and onion bread I had in December was the tastiest bread I have ever tasted.
Stunning!!

Had a lovely coffee and bakery snack here. The seeded sourdough bread cheese toast was wonderful and chutney amazing! Wish they sold that chutney! The Mezza plate was fresh and a delightful mix of flavors with loads of fresh breads.

Lonely staff, the bread is excellent and there's seating (mainly all up a flight of stairs). I had a nice bacon bun.

I live in Aycliffe and on occasions drive to Barnard castle just to buy a baguette here. Best baguette I've ever had in the UK.

I could tell the food here was going to be good because of the continual stream of customers …. window display is so eye-catching too! Garlic focaccia is delicious, Bakewell cake is buttery rich and so tasty. We live nearby so will definitely try more each visit 🌟

Quite simply the best panini I have ever had. The roast beef was so soft and tender and packed with flavour.

Saw this in Living North Magazine and decided to give it a try. Excellent just isn't a good enough word. From the start the window display of breads intices you in. Once inside a menu of savoury bakes, panninis, ciabatta sandwiches, soups and lovely sweet treats await. I opted for a fresh chicken ciabatta and my husband ordered Cream of Leek soup with Mediterranean veg Foccacia for lunch. Everything was absolutely delicious! My sandwich was enormous and full of fresh cooked chicken with salad and red onion chutney: would easily serve 2. Bought cheese scones, fruit scone and enormous sausage roll to take home. This independent bakery is definitely worth a visit if you are in Barnard Castle. And by the way, the goodies brought home were also delicious.

The best sandwich I've ever had. This bakery is amazing and you have to visit it if you're staying or just visiting the local area. Friendly staff who are all experts at their craft. Bread is delicious, pastries are tasty and it's even dog friendly too

Just popped in for a coffee and a snack. Lovely range of home made goodies. Decent coffee too (harder to find in UK than NZ). And really nice folk in here.
We had scones and tea cakes, and the kiddo had possibly the best sausage roll ever.
Highly recommended

Stopped here on the way home as it had been closed for holidays whilst I was staying in Stanhope . The exterior looked amazing, and as someone who makes their own bread and always buys from Artisan makers, I was keen to see what they had.
1st off, a friendly greeting and as I asked I was told what all the different breads were. I made my choices wishing I had something like this near me .
The taste and texture of the sourdough bread stick was incredible. No impossible to bite through crust, and as I had stuffed it with salad, it was awesome . The other loaves were malted and were again perfect and what bread should be.
Dont miss out, go and try some, I will certainly go again when in the area

I haven't found a better seeded sourdough anywhere, but wish they sold the cheese and jalapeno bread every week.

An asset to the town! Proper, hand-baked produce, that tastes as good as it looks! Highly recommend the seeded sourdough bread. Flavoursome, filling and goes well with everything from soup, toasted with jam, or as a savoury sandwich bread. The steak pie is made with a shortcrust pastry base, succulent steak filling and a puff pastry lid, topped with a sprinkling of poppyseeds, adding a lovely texture and additional flavour element, elevating the pie to the next level. And then there are the sweet tarts. Oh my days! Rich chocolate, pear, apple, raspberry & choc, strawberry, the list goes on. All beautifully made, generously filled and delicious. But special mention must go to the outstanding lemon tart - a must try on anyone’s list!
