Celebrated our wedding anniversary here and couldn't have made a better choice. Friendly engaging staff, great food and tequila. We started with the amazing Blooming Onion. Crisp batter, not a hint of excess cooking fat. The wife went for the Blackened Salmon bowl. It was well presented, came in a generous portion and was very very tasty. I had Chilli Beef Chimichanga which was soft and crispy in equal measure with great guacamole and a generous portion of chips. All washed down with chilli tequila. Tia's is THE place to eat in Durham

Looking for a Mexican restaurant on a Monday evening in Durham and we found this little gem. A little way out of the centre, but the walk is well worth the effort. Tia's doesn't look too promising from the outside, but once inside you get a warm friendly welcome to a lovely, cosy family run restaurant.
The food was fabulous. Nachos to share to start with followed Enchiladas each for our main course. Accompanied by a glass of decent red wine and a couple of Mexican beers we were very happy.
If you love Mexican food take a little walk out of the centre of Durham, you will not be disappointed.

We booked to go in for a family meal but couldn’t due to one family member been ill. Tias kindly agreed to cancel our booking and provide a takeaway instead. They prepare a our food order in 15 mins. The food was delicious, the Mexican chicken and blackened Caribbean chicken was out of this world. BBQ ribs were also gorgeous. I will be going their again without a doubt. Highly recommended.
Be mindful of parking in loading bays as parking attendants are over zealous and wouldn’t let me stop even too pick up my food.

I've spent years searching for good Mexican food in the UK, and this is the best I've found by far. We ordered a chimichanga and an enchilada, paired with strawberry margaritas. Mine was non-alcoholic and still hit the spot.

The woman who served us was kind, welcoming and funny, we felt like she knew us immediately. We came in around 8 and stayed until close. I worried that we were staying too long but she never made us feel that way and made sure we were happy until we left.

We loved this place so much, we want to go back tomorrow! Highly recommend to anyone in search of authentic, great quality tex mex with a casual and friendly atmosphere.

Also - the desserts in my pictures are the toffee pie and the bailey's scoop. They were fantastic and perfect to round off the meal.

We were here for an anniversary dinner. The food was amazing, the service was great and they even brought out shots and sombreros to help us celebrate, but the restaurant was very noisy, so if you have sensory overload from ND, maybe bring noise cancelling earphones. Otherwise, really good.

The Food was amazing, generous portions and accommodates vegan diets.
The lady who served us (who I think was the owner) was bubbly and very attentive.

We celebrated a birthday here and made it a wonderful suprise.

I definitely recommend for any occasion or even just a meal out!

Tia's is the best in Durham for an all-rounder Mexican Restaurant. Hit it up during happy hour (5-7 Mon-Fri) for cheap, authentic beers, served in iced glasses - one of the best restaurant experiences in the city. There are also other deals for iced margaritas/etc.

Food is great. Simple staples, done super well. Like the drinks, you can grab all kinds of discounted meals during happy hour. I'd highly recommend the chimichangas as a main, and loaded nachos to share!

The food was good enough i forgot to take many photos, which should say something. Their onion rose is to kill for (the Americans call it blooming onion). Had ribs for my main course which were so tender the meat practically fell off them.
All in all food was amazing and very reasonably priced during happy hour (5-7pm) as are the drinks. Bucket of 6 beers is £12, jugs of cocktails are £10 for the house cocktails, a bit more for a jug of margarita.
Great place to start an epic night out.

I still remember it as Rock'n'Amigos, but Tia's is essentially the same - delicious and good value Mexican food. Durham wouldn't be the same without it.

Friendly welcoming staff. Offered a Vegan and gluten free diet menu on arrival. I had the Mexican platter (vegan) which was faultless!
Many of their desserts can be veganised with Swedish glacé ice-cream - I will be back!!
