Un choix abondant et régulièrement renouvelé de belles pièces, tant en grande mesure qu'en demi-mesure ou prêt-à-porter de qualité. Le propriétaire a le sens du service, les vêtements sont très bien décrits, mesurés et photographiés, les retours sont possibles. Seules réserves à mon sens: il y a tout de même trop de vêtements absolument impossibles à porter, tant ils sont datés et démodés. Enfin depuis le Brexit, le calcul des frais de douanes et des taxes est devenu assez obscur.

I recently sent three items to Savvy Row to be sold: an immaculate, hardly-worn Hackett morning coat, an immaculate pair of tailor-made morning suit trousers and a bespoke, 1933 Savile Row morning coat in good condition.

They offered me £44 - for all three.

A new Hackett morning coat costs £590. Nearly all their vintage bespoke wear sells for three figures.

I could have had ‘estimates’ for both before sending, but I knew the Hackett coat was in perfect condition and I knew what they sell similar for. I was simply expecting a reasonably fair price. Besides, they reserve the right (of course they do) to lower the estimate after the item has been posted to them. At which point if you are not happy with their measly offer you have to pay £20 for the privilege of having the item returned to you. And no, you can’t arrange your own courier for half the price. Savvy Row hold your property to ransom.

I already knew Savvy Row were pretty mean with what they pay for the items that they go on to sell for handsome prices: I sold them several well-made suits etc 10 years ago when my father died, and I was disappointed then by how little they offered. But I was too busy arranging probate and dealing with my widowed mother’s grief to consider any alternative.

Many people with such items to sell are in the same position: bereaved and stressed and in a very poor negotiating position. And of course the ‘chaps’ at Savvy Row know this only too well.

My attempts to resolve this with Savvy Row have met with defensiveness, evasion, criticism and blame. Even when I gave in and agreed to pay their £20 to get my items back I was sent yet another abrupt and hostile email telling me how unreasonable my complaints are.

If you have nice menswear to sell I urge you to do it through one of the online auction sites. It may be a bit of extra bother but you will get far, far more and you won’t belittled and exploited by the ‘chaps’ at Savvy Row.
