Pavagadh Sri Mahakali mataji temple is located on Pavagad hills in Panchamahal district Gujarat and also 50 km from Vadodara city also known as Baroda.

This temple is one of the Shaktipeeth among 51 shaktipeeth in India.Sati ma's right toe fell on this mountain.

we hired a car to travel to this temple from Baroda we never heard about this temple and this temple was not on our trip. One of my relative suggested visiting Pavagadh it will be beautiful and will have a great experience so we thought of visiting this temple We were excited to see this temple.

We can reach this temple top by 2-ways
1.By Footway(total 3000 steps).
2.Rope way.

We picked the Rope way option because we didn't have much time to walk to the top of the mountain even though after picking the ropeway option we needed to climb steps for 200-400 at least it will take 20-30 mins of time.

Getting into the ropeway there will be a huge queue there because the majority of the people picked the Rope way option, waiting for the ropeway allotment you need to wait until turn. If the rush is full it will take 1-2 Hours for waiting in the queue to board the ropeway.

Ropeway journey will be around 10-15 minutes watch out while boarding and deboarding in the ropeway,in the ropeway chamber only 6 people were allowed because 6 people is the limit.

While traveling to the temple way you can see many shops will be selling coconut and Pooja items and also a few snacks vendors.

Some Jain temples were there too on this temple while reaching the temple top we can see them and small ponds also available from the temple top view.

While walking on temple steps I observed a few things that surprised me:-
1. One old lady is walking with the help of a stick climbing the steps to visit Kali Mata temple.
2.One physically handicapped lady also climbs the steps with devotion.

Not only these 2 people I can see many old people visit this temple by walking with bare legs.

I was surprised by their devotion 👏👏👌 where Kalimata is called as Shakti she give Shakti to the people who are willing to climb steps to visit Kali Mata temple.

I was also worried about my parents with the grace of Kali Mata they didn't face any trouble in the climbing steps to visit the temple.

Usually there will be a rush in this temple the day I visited the people's rush was normal.

After reaching the temple it will take less time to complete Kali Mata Darshan.

Prasad also will be selling beside the temple each box costs 50 rupees at least by one try that Prasad.

This temple was renovated in the time of Modi ruling time and also some development works are still going on at the top of the temple.

Darshan is free no ticket and money culture in this temple.

In Puranas Rishi Vishwamitra did Tapasya on this mountain for Kali Mata later Kali Mata blessed Rishi Vishwamitra and Vishwamitra river is originated from this Pavagad hills area the same river flows through Vadodara city.

I wish everyone would visit this Kali Mata temple when you are in Baroda.

Everything is organised in the temple premises and also at ropeway services as well I liked it.

Jai Hind.

It's a really nice temple built over a mountain top with great views of valleys, rivers and mountains. You'll feel very calm in the temple with wind flows even on sunny days.
Buy online tickets for the rope way and get amazing views from there too. 😍

One of the 51 shaktipeeth in Bharat.
Must visit places. But even after going up by rope way you have to climb around 300 stairs so elderly people watch before going.

It is considered one of the shaktipeeths where right foot fingers of Ma Sati fell. The temple is situated on top of pavagarh hill. It can be approached by hilly walkway or by ropeway. Ropeway station can be approached by vehicle and public busses from bus stand. On weekends , access by private vehicle is restricted.

The temple is beautifully made in sandstone. The Ma vigrah has face only with 2 large captivating eyes. There is also water pond at an intermediate level on the hill. Access walkway to temple is flanked by nice eateries and puja shops, however the price is bit high.

Sage Vishwamitra had done tapasya at this teerth. This hill is also the origin point of vishwamitri river.

The divine place.
I don’t need to write something about this place.
My photos will share the story.

The things you should know :- Car can be taken from Machi to pavagarh hill.
Or you can park and take bus which fares are ₹9 per person. Bus frequency is about in every 15-30 minutes.
The alternative is Force (toofan)
Which fares ₹30 per person.
Which takes immediately but they fill people like sheep.
Ropeway can be brought from there as well.
The climb is steep but doable enough.
It depends on one’s conditioning.
It takes 2 hours approx to walk the stairs.
In ropeway it takes hardly 10-15 mins (one way - which fares around ₹120 per person one way )
The temple is the site of one of the Great holy Shakti Peeth.

A must visit.

Pavagadh, situated in the heart of Gujarat, is a captivating destination that seamlessly combines spirituality, history, and natural beauty. As a first-time visitor, the experience is truly enchanting.

Located approximately 46 kilometers from Vadodara, Pavagadh is easily accessible and offers a journey to the Kalika Mata Temple, perched atop Pavagadh Hill. The pilgrimage presents two distinct paths: the ropeway, available for 300 round trip or 120 for a one-way descent, providing a convenient and thrilling means of reaching the summit, and the approximately 2200 stairs for those seeking a more traditional and challenging approach.

The aerial views from the ropeway add a modern and scenic dimension to the spiritual journey, offering a unique perspective of the surrounding landscape. Meanwhile, the stair climb becomes a testament to both physical endurance and spiritual devotion, creating a contemplative and immersive experience.

The Kalika Mata Temple itself stands as an architectural marvel, adorned with intricate carvings and ancient artwork. The serene atmosphere within the temple complex provides a peaceful sanctuary for spiritual reflection.

Beyond the temple, the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park unfolds, revealing historical treasures such as forts, mosques, and tombs. This archaeological wonder adds a fascinating layer to the visit, allowing travelers to traverse through time and appreciate the cultural richness of the region.

Facilities around Pavagadh cater to the needs of visitors, including comfortable accommodations, local eateries serving authentic Gujarati cuisine, and souvenir shops offering traditional handicrafts. The well-maintained infrastructure ensures a comfortable and enriching stay, complementing the spiritual and historical exploration.

In conclusion, Pavagadh, located approximately 46 kilometers from Vadodara, is a destination that leaves a lasting impression on first-time visitors. Whether you choose the modern convenience of the ropeway or embrace the traditional challenge of the stairs, Pavagadh promises a multifaceted experience, blending spirituality, history, and the beauty of nature in a way that makes each visit unique and memorable.

Visiting the Shree Mahakali Mataji Temple on the magnificent Pavagadh hill was an unforgettable spiritual journey. The temple, perched atop the hill, is a symbol of faith and devotion, and it offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape. While I had an incredible experience, there were a few points to consider when planning your visit.

Prebooking Ropeway Tickets: I highly recommend prebooking your ropeway tickets online before visiting the temple. The queue for offline tickets can be incredibly long and time-consuming. The online booking process is user-friendly and will save you at least 2.5 hours of waiting in line, allowing you to make the most of your time on the hill.

No Mobile Network Connectivity: Once you reach the hill, be prepared to be disconnected from the outside world. There is no mobile network connectivity, which can be seen as both a blessing and a challenge. It's a blessing because it encourages visitors to fully immerse themselves in the spiritual experience, free from distractions. However, it's also important to be prepared, so inform your loved ones about your visit in advance and arrange a designated meeting point in case you get separated.

The temple complex itself is a marvel of architecture and devotion. The serene atmosphere and the beautiful idol of Shree Mahakali Mataji make it a must-visit for anyone seeking solace and spirituality. The temple grounds are clean and well-maintained, and the chanting of hymns creates an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.

The ropeway ride to the hill is an experience in itself, offering panoramic views of the lush green surroundings. It's a thrilling and convenient way to reach the temple, especially for those who may find the trek to the top challenging.

Don't forget to explore the other attractions on the hill, including the historical monuments and the impressive fort. There's a lot to discover, so plan your visit accordingly.

In conclusion, a visit to Shree Mahakali Mataji Temple on Pavagadh Hill is an incredible spiritual journey that offers a unique blend of natural beauty, history, and devotion. To make the most of your visit, prebook your ropeway tickets and be prepared for the lack of mobile network connectivity. These considerations will ensure a seamless and enriching experience, allowing you to fully connect with the divine energy of the temple and the natural beauty of Pavagadh.

I recently visited Pavagadh Mahakali Temple and had a spiritually uplifting experience. The temple holds a serene atmosphere that fills you with peace.

The climb to reach the temple might be a bit challenging for some, but the view from the top is truly breathtaking.

The surrounding nature adds to the beauty of the place. However, during peak times, the crowd can be overwhelming, making it a bit difficult to explore peacefully.

Highly recommended to you for reaching the temple must use the ropeways if you can't walk through stairs .

I visited during the monsoon season, and it was incredibly beautiful with cold weather and a gentle drizzle. If you're a nature and trekking enthusiast or have faith in 'Maa Shakti' this place is a must-visit. There are two ponds you encounter while walking through the stairs. Be mindful not to litter in this natural area, as many shops are available. Unfortunately, some people irresponsibly dispose of garbage, which harms the beauty of the mountains. On rainy days, the Ropeway is mostly closed, but you can still reach your destination by climbing approximately 2000.
To reach the hill called ‘Machi’ you can either take public transportation, such as the Pavagadh bus, or use your own vehicle.

It was my dream to visit this temple🛕, and the dream came true at the age of 38 along with my parents and family... Rope way 🚠 experience was thrilling...it's one of the best temples of Gujarat. One must visit this Temple, but please keep a few things in mind before going to visit this Temple:
=》Book udankhatola (Rope way) tickets via online prior to avoid wasting time in unnecessary offline booking line.
=》In case of offline ticket, senior citizens are allowed to enter without getting into queue. However, the family member must be in the queue.
=》At temple don't forget to buy the yummy sukhdi prasadam.. It's 50/- per pack and too yummy... 😋. It's only available at the temple premises, so don't forget to buy some extra...
=》Avoid taking your vehicle if possible, take the jeeps from downhill.

Mahakali Mataji Temple, Pavagadh, Gujarat
The Mahakali temple Pavagadh is situated on the top of Pavagadh Hill, about 800 m high from sea level, near Champaner the ancient capital of Gujarat. This temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peeth and 3 of the Gujarat, as right leg toe of Ma Devi Sati was fallen down at this spot. Since part of Paav (leg) was fallen here, thus this place is named Pavagadh.

Goddess Mahakalika Mandir, Pawagadh is one of the most popular pilgrimage centres of Gujarat, which attracts millions of tourists and pilgrims throughout the year. You can find lots of details of goddess Mahakali Ma described in various sacred text of Sanatan Dharma and Tantric scriptures as well. Goddess Mahakali is worshipped as Dakshina Kali here with tantric rituals. Mahakali is considered the consort of Shiva. Kali, who is the force of the anger of Ma Durga. Mahakali Ma is personification as destroyer of evil energy.

Devotee can use rope way from Manchi – base of Pavagadh hill to reach at the top but still need to climb 300 stairs ahead to have darshan of Maa Mahakali. The temple complex is part of the Champaner-Pavagadh archaeological park which is a World Heritage Site declare by UNESCO.

History and Architecture of Mahakali Temple, Pavagadh, Gujarat
As per the legend Mahakali Ma Temple is in existence since 10th century and renovated several times. The great sage Rhishi Vishwamitra was stayed at Pavagadh hill and worshipped Ma Kalika. It is believed that the idol of Ma Kali was installed by sage Vishwamitra. Mahakali Ma is also worshipped here as Dakshina Kali Ma.

As per the historical records found, king named Jaisinh belonging to the Patai dynasty ruled the kingdom of Champaner, located at the foot of Pawagadh hill. Champaner was prosperous empire under his governance and thus goddess Mahakali happily resided on the top of Pawagadh hill. Navratri, the holy nine nights of celebration and worship of goddess Ambe was celebrated here with pure devotion. Local people along with royal family takes participation in Garba in devotion towards the Goddess. Due to their true love and pure devotion, goddess was so impressed and decided to disguise herself as a local woman and took part in Garaba along with her devotees. The King Jaisinh was fascinated and enchanted with her beauty and made an inappropriate proposal. Then Goddess had warned king and told that she was like his mother. Though due to lust, the King insisted on making her as his queen. Then Goddess became angry and cursed him that his empire would fall down. Later on Champaner was invaded by Mughal King Muhammed Begada and defeated the King Jaisinh in a battle. This is how flourishing empire of Champaner was pulled down due to curse of Goddess.

As per the local folklore, Sage Viswamitra installed the idol of Goddess Kalika in Pawagadh. The locals believe that the area is blessed with the power of Viswamitra Maharshi.

To insult Lord Shiva, Daksha held Yagya and invited all God and reputed persons except the Sati and Lord Shiva. Sati had decided to confront her father at Yagya. Lord Shiva tried to stop her by doing this but Sati went to Yagya. King Daksh did not welcomed her and use this occasion to insult her and Lord Shiva in front of all God and reputed individuals. Sati could not bear this humiliation and jumped into holy pyre of the Yagya.

Once Lord Shiva got this information; he was deeply pain and anger on Daksh. Lord Shiva had created Virbhadra and Bhadrakali with extra ordinary super power and order to kill Daksh and his army. Then Lord Shiva picked up Sati with burning body and unleashed his fury in form of legendary Tandava, dance of destruction. The other God and people started worried about safety of whole universe and requested Lord Vishnu the supreme Lord, to help out in this situation.

Lord Vishnu used the Sudarashan Chakra and cut the body of Ma Devi Sati in pieces. As per the legends, Sati’s heart fell over spot marked by Ambaji Temple. Thus this temple is one of the main Shaki Peeth and Siddh Peeth across 51 Shakti Peeth.

Temple with a very positive aura.. The idol of Maataji is very powerful. The big eyes of idol are so mesmerizing.

Once you enter the cable car entrance, it will take another 1 hour to board the cable car. Once you exit the cable car, you need to climb some steep steps, I think appox 500. We did not bypass the cable car, but stairways showed 1800 steps and 45 mins to reach temple.

Cable cars come at a price of 150 both ways and 120 one way (Normal ticket).

Parking space is available near the temple at ₹100. Many people park on the road on the way to avoid this expense.

Also no need to take off your shoes at the beginning. You have shoe stands at the entrance of the temple.
