Thenmala Dam

The view from the top of the dam is fantastic. That was surprising too. There are so many monkeys also. Ticket charge for one person is only 10 rupees.

Best to come during the rainy season and winter time mid October to Feb mid, March to May is hotter, water will be less, but it was a good experience, feels ur heart and mind cool, we had a great time here and really enjoyed the nature beauty❤

Great panoramic view of Thenmala dam's reservoir from the top of the dam. Make sure you reach there before 5pm as it will be strictly closed for entry.

Fantastic trekking experience to the top. Strenuous but fun. Worth the trek. Top view is incredible. Must visit.

Wonderful place to visit. Ticket rate is only 10 rs and is available at main gate. From gate hardly 1km walking to reach the top and the place looks beautiful. Lots of monkeys are there. There are lots of plastic spread around and seems maintenance is not good. Only one store is there inside it which have cool drinks and ice creams. We can enjoy natural beauty of thenmala. Totally a worth place to spend an evening.

Thenmala dam is a calm and serene place to visit on weekends with family or friends. The tickets are very cheap and there is ample parking available.
The climb to the top is a bit tiring but the view is spectacular, particulary during golder hours.
If you are in need of a breath of fresh air and a small trek, this is your destination.

Beautiful place. The view from atop of the dam is just breathtaking. You can see small reservoir islands far off into the ghats. It was a long walk tho as they don’t allow vehicles up into the dam any more but it was worth it. Amazing experience

This place was so calm beautiful. Beware of the monkeys around. They try to snatch your things. After the walk from this Themala dam bridge you will get a tuck shop. Two beautiful aunties were the shopkeeper and they were so glad that we completed that walk and had tea and snacks their as they didn't get enough customers that day.

Nice view! A must visit in Thenmala. Beware: its a long long walk! Any way its a good visit and superb ambiance for only ₹10.
Suggestions: There should be a decent restaurant. After long walks, people need good food., that's missing!
There should be an optional transport option to & fro.
There should be option to buy tickets for hanging bridge & children's park that's near to dam!

One of the beautiful Dam in kerala. Ravishing location and sight seeing. Ample amount of water stored here. It's is one of the hydro electric power generation project. It may take some time and steps to reach the Dam top. Many trees and sitting spot around the Dam to take nap. Entrance fees applicable. Exit route for the Dam is also enjoyable. Must visit place.

Carry water, cap and umbrella if you got plan to go to the top

The big parking facility is available in the entrance area...

Lot and lots of monkeys present over there, so we must beware of it...

📍Thenmala Dam,Kerala

Had an amazing experience here. An entrance fees of ₹20-50 is collected for per person. And you can walk to the dam and see water storage and return back through another path. Walking through this path will give you An extraordinary feel as it’s covered by wild trees. A shop will be available inside where you can buy snacks stuffs.

Nice scenic place, where they provide water from there to 3 districts in Kerala. The famous Kallada irrigation and power generation station is situated there. Worth visiting. But vehicles will be allowed only up to the gate. There is a bit of walking somewhere around half or more KMS and to climb up 180 stairs approximately to reach the dam top. You have another option which will lead to the lower side of the dam view through the second gate. Altogether can spend around 2 to 3 hours.

Lovely place. I spent time at this dam. You can see two colour i.e one muddy & other normal as the same is discharged from the dam. One is for power and the other for irrigation. Nice place and you need to climb good height. You need energy. It is best suitable is early in the morning or afternoon by 3 pm.

Thenmala dam view point is an unique experience…there is ample parking in the locality…there is an entry charge which is minimal …however you would need to walk more than a kilometre from the parking …please note that the walk will only lead you to the bottom of the steps to the summit …you would need to take more than 150 steps to reach the top …in the top there is a bridge which will give you great view …it’s worth the climb to see the view …please note post the bridge which gives you the view there is a small shop which gives you some fluids …let me tell you the stall was good though it didn’t look great…on the walk to outside we encountered some wild monkeys …please ensure you don’t expose any of the things to them as they can take it away …Overall a nice experience and view

Part of Thenmala ecotourism. Although photography is strictly prohibited here now. That's sad. Boating inside dam is available in a different site. Nice view from here though! After the dam you can exit through a jungle path. But don't expect other animals except monkeys!

Thenmala Dam a.ka. "Parappar Dam" is one of the famous landmarks in Kollam district and have a notable position in the tourism map of Kerala. The dam is built across the river Kallada. The Dam is the heart of Kallada Irrigation Project(K.I.P.) an oldest irrigation project in Kerala and there's also a hydroelectric power station near to this construction. Parappar dam and its canal system is one of the major source of water for Kollam and Pathanamthitta dists. during summer season. Thenmala dam has one of the longest dam reservoir in Kerala. Boating is available from Pallamvetty which is another side of the dam reservoir. Apart from the reservoir, there are serveral eco-tourism activities here. Adventure zone , Hanging bridge, zip line, walkways etc. are some attractions near to this place. We can the remains of old Trivandrum-Shenkottai road in this area. During extreme summer seasons and when the water level is low tourists can see the remains of old Themala Town and various buildings inside the dam reservoir. Ottakkal Look-out is also a part of this dam which has the function to redirect water into "Valathukara & Idathukara" canals.
