Michamvi Sunset Bay Resort

Quiet resort located right on the beach. The service is excellent, with extremely friendly staff.
The food was superb and dinner was served at a different location each night, including on the beach with a bonfire.
The breakfast area overlooks the ocean, and though options are somewhat limited, the food is still great.
The beach is clean and the area is away from much activity, so ideal for anyone looking for some peace and quiet.
The sunset is Gorgeous!!

BEST PLACE EVER

What a lovely hotel Michamvi Sunset Bay Resort is, and we can only recommend to experience it yourself. We had 5 nights here, and felt the hospitality, friendliness and heartwarming from the minute we arrived. Everybody was so pleasant to be around, and Shirley and the staff took so good care of all all week. Apart from friendliness, the room we stayed was lovely, clean and had as the place is quite small, it was naturally close to the pool, the beach and the different restaurants. The beach just outside the hotel is also lovely, with very nice and clean water.
The food (including the selection) was more than great - whether that was breakfast, lunch or dinner, and always a lot to select from.
Go experience it yourself – you will not be disappointed 😊

The place is absolutely amazing. The beach is gorgeous, the staff is super nice and helpful. Especially Shirley. She helped us with everything we needed. Breakfast & dinner are amazing also and the rooms are clean and nice.

We spent two night, three days here and it was just right. It was the week before their high season so the whole place was quiet and unobtrusive. The staff were all lovely and really helpful, especially Shirley one of the managers. She was wonderful, intuitive and full of information, I can't praise her highly enough, she was/is excellent. We booked a ground floor room but there was a mix up (with the booking provider, not Michamvi) and we were put in an upstairs terraced room, which was fine.
The whole resort has a tropical feel, the rooms are a bit tired and maybe need a bit of upkeep, the hotel knows this and it had all been planned before covid hit them and they didn't have the funds or ability. It's on the right side of basic - clean, fresh, well looked after. The food at the bar and in the restaurant was good, varied and tasty. The pool isn't heated and was slightly cool.
The beach is idilic, however you MUST bring water shoes for going in the water as there is a lot of sharp shells and rocks/coral, makes going into the water tricky (& painful). There isn't much to see on the snorkelling front, the water is shallow and empty.
One annoying thing, which is out of control of the hotel, is the amount of hawkers on the beach. As soon as you enter onto the beach they are there, calling you, walking with you, chatting and questioning...they aren't threatening but really really intrusive and tedious, one after the other, relentless. I can imagine if you were a solo traveller it might be intimidating. It put me off walking along the beach as every two minutes there was someone at your side asking where you're from, etc. You learn quickly how to, politely, say leave me alone.
All in all I would recommend this resort, was a bit of a drive to get to from the airport but lovely calming place to be, beautiful sunsets, lovely staff, nice food and just a tropical zen place for a few days.
However - be aware there is construction work next door - 27/7 - and it got a bit noisy at times at night

I totally enjoyed the place. The garden is beautiful, the beach is very quiet and basically dedicated to the few tourists in the resort. The food was delightful even if the choices at the breakfast were rather limited. I preffered the fresh mango, pineapple, passion fruit and watermelon. The staff are really nice guys. There is a blue monkey saying every morning hello and visiting you in the room when the balcony door is open :)

I didn’t actually stay here. I stayed at a nearby $20 guesthouse that was not on the beach. The lovely thing about this hotel is that they let you get a $10 voucher and register as a day guest. They let you use the pool and their chairs by the beach for free and order any food and drinks you want. Then you just pay the difference of the voucher in the evening when you leave. If you have enough money, I’m sure this is a great place to stay.

Wow! Where to start?
Our room- I think we had the best location, however everyone will say this due to the well thought out design and layout of the buildings. We loved the palms, green sprays, and morning coffee from the balcony, the bed was sooo large (good surprise) and the attention to detail with flowers by staff was great! The double shower was also a welcomed hit.

The welcoming friendly people and staff were warm and professional.

The food was amazing, and that panacotta... that wobble - wow! It’s to die for. You definitely have to try it!

Our romanitic beach dinner was very special, the best set-up we’ve had from all our travels. Loved the attention to detail and hands on staff ensuring everything we needed (or didn’t know we needed) was made available.
Great staff, great team, great service.

We would love (and hope) to come back some time.

The dhow cruise is also a must do. Our guides were very well informed.

And the sea shell curtains ... very creative.

22 rooms, 44 guest max. The Michamvi Sunset has it right: discreet, elegant while slightly understated, a relaxed atmosphere with attentive service. This is far from the impersonal « standard luxury » hotels. The food is excellent and the resort’s staff makes an effort every evening to vary dinner locations and dishes.. as foe the beach, yes it has tides but not as bad as we initially thought and much better than near The Rock restaurant where we had lunch today. The tides make for great walks. The beach is public and kids come play in the afternoon - it’s fun and family friendly. Feels natural unlike many privatized beaches in Mauritius or the Seychelles. Very different atmosphere. We have been here 4 days now and dread our departure. I will further comment once i have received the final bill (lunch and extras) but for now this place is absolutely 5 star!

Can't really say anything about the hotel but we stayed there for one afternoon at the pool and the beach side. You have to consume a certain amount in the bar and can in exchange use the facilities and deck chairs.

We planned to stay a few days and we stayed a week finally. It’s a great and peaceful place. If you want to rest and calm you have to go there. Room was spacieus and well equipment. A wonderful owner who cares about the comfort of guests- thank you:) We totally recommend!

Michamvi Sunset Bay Resort has a relaxed atmosphere. Unwind on the powder-white sands in the bay and enjoy a cocktail, while watching the magnificent sunset. There is no task too great for the staff, ensuring you always receive personal service.

This hotel is a dream come true if you are looking for a quiet, beautiful beach front hotel with white sand beach. Those bungalow type of building are my favorites.The rooms are beautiful, the whole area is so pretty to relax, the food at the restaurant was delicious, breakfast has a variety of food to choose from. This hotel is amazing, I would recommand it 100%

Sunsets in the east coast of Zanzibar never gets old. And staying at Michamvi Sunset Bay makes it more magical.

The beach is soft, white and wide and the water is spectacular. Our family of four stayed in an air conditioned double room where they added two extra twin beds. Living in Zanzibar, we know we cannot take AC or extra twin beds for granted. Despite the 2 extra beds, we didn't feel cramped in the room.

There's a separate bath and shower. Shower was excellent! Towels were thick and fluffy. Again, these things you cannot take for granted in Zanzibar.

We love that there's volleyball and badminton, sand toys, paddle boards and kayaks to use for no extra charge. The swimming pool is a great alternative when the tide is low, but they provide water shoes so you ought to explore the exposed sea bed.

Saturday is a Swahili dinner. And boy it is delicious! And because it was my birthday, they prepared me a cake! It was special. Especially when you've got the sand under your feet and the stars above your head.

Brad and Shirley are superb. The staff know how to make you feel pampered.

Definitely going to be our new sunset hang out in Zanzibar!

As a large group staying for an on-site wedding, the staff of Michamvi made our stay truly unforgettable. The setting is wonderful, the food unbelievable and the hosts warm, friendly, helpful and entertaining. A place where lifelong memories are made.

Michamvi sunset bay resort started as a place to stay for a few days and turned into a home of which I will return for years and years to come. I can’t explain the love and comfort this amazing place and people give, but you’ll not be disappointed or missing one thing; except maybe your heart when you leave ✨🥰🙏🏼

My son loved every minute of his stay and left with the love of a new little brother (Leo is the best you’ll see!) as did I.

The safety and comfort is second to none and the hospitality unbeatable. Amazing food, view, room etc etc etc the list goes on.

Perfect location to walk over to Kae funk or short taxi to the rock, upendo, Baladin etc. but the stay here is where it is at!

We had an excellent experience at Michamvi. Everyone was incredibly helpful and went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. The resort is beautiful and there are plenty of great activities to keep you busy. If you want to stay in and hang out by the pool and beach, that's great too. We'll definitely be going back to Michamvi.

Michamvi is a beautiful resort that is clean, well-cateted and perfectly located. Although the Michamvi area has become more crowded since this resort was built, it stands out as a lovely alternative to newer, less well-run alternatives. If money is an issue, it is definitely worth investing the $10 daily fee to use their facilities, especially since the money goes towards your food and drink purchases.

Wonderful! Its a perfect paradise on Sansibar and everything is in partnership with the local village: fruit, fish and corn is supplied by the Michamvi Village as well as 30% of the staff is employed by the hotel. The beach is clean and the recycling is sustainable and the program supports Sansibar!

excellent purely excellent- the staff are divine, the place is like a dream- literally had the wedding of our dreams and it was nothing short of perfect. the rooms are super clean, the food is the best and the atmosphere is so surreal xxx

Great beach (some growth when we were there but only a slight minus), great food and small and hospitable place. The best thing is the staff though. Above and beyond is all that needs to be said!
