Lesson learned on going out of town for taxes. I've had a business for many years and have never had a problem until this (last) year, but this last year was my first year giving a new place in Emporia a try since my girl quit. I'm just finding out that even though our other taxes were paid.. my retail sales tax was never paid for 2022. So I owe this year's retail sales tax and last years. PLUS penalties and interest on last years. 😳 ZERO calls to me from them- for a whole year. Apparently there was not enough information or they couldn't figure it out even though they had absolutely every bank statement, card statement, reciept, etc there. My taxes bounced around between several people working on them. They have tried to throw it all back on me and make it seem like it's somehow my fault. I have never heard someone talk circles and try to cover for someone else so much. They said they sent *one* email in April requesting information. They say I still owe them for services as well and even claimed they sent a certified letter to me?? Which would be proof I am getting their mail right? I've never signed anything! They charged me an astronomical $2,500 for a years worth of "business bookkeeping" alone, which is outrageous for obviously incomplete and unfinished work. I am really beside myself and am thankful I have an emergency savings to cover someone else's mistake. Just kinda figured when you go to a tax place... they do your taxes!? 😫😳 I guess it's my fault for not really realizing that so much was unsettled but I just can't imagine running my own business this way and not really trying to get in touch with someone. I figured things were handled, taken out, taken care of, done, whatever. This is such a huge headache for me this week I am beyond stressed out. I pay my bills in full monthly and I handle my own liquor tax on time every single month so it makes me upset I finally trusted people to take a burden from me and it didn't happen. It was also nearly $800 for my husband and I's personal taxes. $3,332 total to go here for not even completed work and they tried to charge interest on that as well. Nobody was -ever- upfront about that cost either in the beginning. Entirely too expensive for the "services" you get which sounds like a roulette anyways- you might not even get what you pay for. People have also been messaging me with similar issues from them- "zero communication" and a "you figure it out" mentality. Very disappointed. All they could say was they would love to help me get this done and it's an easy fix... Wish they fixed it when it mattered- a year ago! I feel very ripped off and disappointed and am now picking up the pieces with a new accountant that actually gets in touch with people. I have a small business and can't even imagine leaving anyone in the dark about anything undone and unfinished- even if it was for $20! I will email, text, call and even look people on facebook and send a message there if I need to. I am sure there will be some long rebuttal talking down to me that they type in reply but I really don't care. I am just confused over the whole thing and "sorry for the miscommunication" doesn't fix anything. I don't understand taxes, so I went here to get everything sorted and finished. If I knew it was on my back this definitely would have been taken care of. We should get a reimbursement for this mess as nothing was ever actually finished. Find a tax place that will actually do your taxes. Update: Went to a new tax place to sort out this mess and they did what Wright should have done (and was paid to do) in a literal half a day and they had no new information that Wright didn't have. Feeling even more ripped off and confused than before! Their final claim was my taxes didn't get done because they needed more info I never gave. Right! What a sham!
