Alana Longwell, DO

If I could put 0 stars on Dr. Alana Longwell and the rehab staff at Newman Regional Health I would. I have been an RN for almost 10 years now and received my master’s in nurse anesthesia 3 years ago so I am fully aware of the care that patients and their families should receive. My grandma had a back surgery in Wichita, KS with a highly respected neurosurgeon and we sent her to Newman Regional Health in Emporia, KS for rehab thinking being close to family & friends would be best. Biggest mistake we could have ever made. She was said to have C Diff at Emporia on the second day she was there. Due to them failing to clean her often enough and properly, and monitor the incision site (basic nursing skills so ask me for the examples on this), her incision got infected with C Diff stool. Dr. Longwell was going to SEND MY GRANDMOTHER HOME after almost two weeks of her not eating or drinking appropriately and an incision site that didn’t take a medical brain to know it was infected. She told my family the incision was healing appropriately and was not infected when it in fact had STOOL brewing up an infection that would eventually kill my grandma. I have pictures to prove that she was negligent in appropriately knowing the difference between and infected incision and a healing incision. We will be reporting her negligence and failure to appropriately diagnose an infection and sepsis diagnosis because of it, to the medical board and hope the appropriate action is taken. We have learned my grandmother is not the only person that Newman Regional has absolutely failed to properly take care of. I have multiple examples of their lack of BASIC medical knowledge to care for their patients and I am appalled to have gone through this with my grandmother who is currently on hospice. My biggest advice is to not let your family members step foot in Newman Regional as none of my family will ever be supporting that death sentence facility ever again.
