Ay Jalisco

Excellent food at a good price. The decor is pretty good too. They have a red sauce on the entrees we ordered which was very good as well. I thought it enhanced the flavor quite a bit. Excellent service too. Large portions. You won't leave hungry.

On a chilly day in early April, we ducked into Ay Jalisco, not certain what we would find so far north of the border. I mean, we’re in IOWA. What a wonderful surprise to find such tasty Mexican food! So fresh! The salads were crisp. The hot food was hot. My wife had the Huevos Rancheros and I ordered the same, but with chorizo instead. Great meal. Excellent service. Highly recommend this if you come to Forest City, Iowa (the home of Winnebago campers). We come each year for a checkup on our Winnebago, so we will be back for another meal at Ay Jalisco! Oh! I forgot the Tacos Carnitas! Muy Bueno!
UPDATE! We returned for two more meals during this same visit to Forest City. Same great good. Same great service. I added pix of the Fajita Salad, the Chili Relleno, and the Chicken Fajitas. Wonderful! Great crispy tacos, too.

My family needed somewhere to eat before heading back to Minneapolis after burying our grandmother in Woden and Ay Jalisco accommodated us even though we had a party of 20 and they had one person on staff. They insisted we stay and they called in two other cooks to help. I got the Super Fajitas which were phenomenal. Great food and customer service. Highly recommend.

As a Californian transplant in DSM who travels a lot, I'm very weary of small towns here and their food options. Thankfully the food I have was flavorful, moist and filling! Will be back if I travel through again!

Believe it or not, this Mexican restaurant was very good despite being in Iowa. The portions were very large and spicy enough for the Iowans who enjoyed it. The margaritas was also grande and well done. Will definitely go back.

We arrived as a large party and took the poor owner and workers by surprise. But regardless of the overwhelming party of people, they were very welcoming and accommodating.
The food was excellent and the service was wonderful!

Stopped here for lunch while my vehicle was being worked on at Lichtsinn.

The service was prompt and attentive and the food came in large portions and was good. I had the burrito Colorado which came with beans and rice and like chili Colorado, chunky meat doused in a tasty sauce except wrapped in a burrito.

I would come here again if I had to come back to Forest City.

Love! Love! Love! Honestly, there hasn't been a dish I don't like from here. Service is friendly and fast. Servers anticipate what you need. They always come back to the table 3-5 minutes after receiving your plate to check on everything. Plenty of room in both dinning rooms. No one an elbow away at another table. Kid friendly, handicap accessible and dishes are made to order!

The entire menu is so awesome and delicious, especially with salsa verde. Best place in FC.

This was a delightful surprise back in my hometown of Forest City. I don't return nearly often enough but I have to say, next time I do, I will be returning to Ay Jalisco. The service was excellent and extremely attentive. The wait staff are very professional and friendly. The selection offered so many great options from the typical taco's, burrito's and enchilada's to many favorites and unexpected surprises. The standard "chips and salsa" was delicious and the salsa just the right amount of spice with a hint of smokiness. I had an enchilada and it was fantastic. If I lived back in my hometown, I'd definitely be a regular at Ay Jalisco.

Food was good. We’re from California and we were pleasantly surprised how good the food was. My husband had the Mexican Tacos and cleaned the plate. will be back for sure.

Awesome food and great service! We should up with a walk in party of 20 and they took care of us all.

The building and the restaurant, like the town, has sen better days. Could use some repair. Maybe new booths and such. But the food was plentiful and delicious; the staff friendly, welcoming, attentive and efficient. The Margaritas were very good. I don’t have much luck finding tamales I like but this was as good as I have ever had. They have fried ice cream but we opted for something new to us - fried cheesecake. It is awesome. May go back tomorrow just for some of that.

Great food and portion size.

I really like this place. The staff are very friendly. The chips are warm out of the oven and the salsa is tasty. I had the tacos and a margarita and they were both very good. We will definitely be back.

Our family loves eating at Ay Jalisco! We are regular customers and have found it to be a great place to go for lunch, date nights, family dinners, or a gathering with friends. The food is always hot, fresh, and delicious, and the staff provides friendly and fast service. The menu has something for everyone, including kids' meal options. The chimichanga blanca dinner and the fajita dinners are my favorites, and the fried ice cream is amazing if you can find room for dessert! We're thankful to have Ay Jalisco as a local restaurant in Forest City!

This is an unexpected gem. We did not expect such a good Mexican restaurant in Iowa.

The best Mexican food ever, really delicious, highly recommend.
