My dogs love the trails at Glenstone. They are well groomed and full of interesting scents and sights. After a big storm this summer knocked a tree down on the trail, I was able to get in touch with the stewards and they cleared it out right away. Great attention to our natural spaces! Thanks for making Glenstone a great place in the Durham area to visit!

Nice well marked trails. We went to see if we could spot the Heron rookery but must have been too early to spot any activity.

This is a wonderful hidden gem! It needs to become part of the City of Durham school programs. There's an amazing heron rookery there - the only known nesting area in the NC Piedmont for Great Egrets - which unfortunately is at risk of development because that specific area is owned by the city. We need awareness of the fact that this place is at risk of being lost forever!

Glennstone Preserve is a small nature preserve managed by Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association in the Glennstone subdivision. It's open to the public, but no parking lot. You can park on Glennstone Drive in front of the gazebo. Several short trails wind through the preserve, leading down to Ellerbe Creek and to an interesting car graveyard with a whole bunch of old cars and buses. Definitely not something you expect to find in the woods.

Great place to hike and walk my dog, very convenient place to visit from Durham. Trail map available and nice trails to walk.
