Awesome place to stay when we attended a wedding, didn't know what to expect. Very cute and well kept hotel, and the rooms were really neat

The breakfest was great and and the restraunt area was fun. Stay here, you wont be disappointed

I spent 2 nights at this hotel and had the best experience. I was in town for the Indy race and the location of Hotel Grinnell was perfect. The owners personally shuttled guests to the race in their RV and stayed there with the motor running in case we needed to come back and cool off or relax between events. The manager communicated with me throughout my stay to ensure all of my needs were met and exceeded. I felt like family at the end of my 2 days there. They have bikes for guests to use (at no charge) if they want to ride around and explore this cute little town.

The hotel is a repurposed middle school and the owner did a great job with keeping some middle school effects. The restaurant, The Periodic Table, is so adorable and has games to play, live music on the patio, and great service. The complimentary breakfast was perfect. I will definitely stay at this hotel when I go to the races next year!

So much fun!!!! I LOVE when buildings are repurposed and given new life. This renovation has paid attention to all kinds of wonderful details and kept a theme that makes this such a special hotel. The staff were all happy and energetic, willing to please to provided great service. Apps and drinks were great. The Periodic Table space was fun, inviting, and offered plenty of things to keep you and friends entertained. Definitely happy we stayed and would recommend to others.

They have some really fun menu selections and their charcuterie board is the perfect size for sharing. Zane in the Periodic Table is really fun to talk to and we had a great time chatting with him.

Super quiet downtown area and quiet hotel. Our room was perfect . Very hot water, cuisinart coffee pot, soft absorbent towels. Great bedding and mattress . Breakfast was healthy and hot . The grounds and patio was splendid. This is an old school turned into fabulous boutique hotel

My fiancé and I came to Hotel Grinnell for the first time to stay for our 5 year anniversary, since we would meet up in Grinnell for dates years ago, being long-distance. I knew the hotel was unique from seeing pictures on the website, but the pictures don't even do it justice! The hotel is so incredibly unique in that it incorporates a wonderful fusion of the old schoolhouse feel with modern twists! The rooms are spacious, beautiful, and clean; the beds are extremely comfortable, and the little touches like the whiteboards and locker room benches remind you of the building's history. Stepping into the hallway, you are again reminded of the building's history, with some of the original flooring of the school intermixed with modern carpeting; you can also imagine where the old lockers used to be against the walls, with the classrooms, now guest rooms, to the other side. Exploring the building you will find the old gymnasium, now a ballroom, and a beautiful auditorium that looks to still be in use. The Periodic Table, the restaurant on the ground floor, was also delicious and fun, a place to have wonderful tacos and delicious drinks while playing with their wide selection of games. We did not stay long enough to enjoy all of the amenities they offer, which also included rental bikes, sports equipment in the old gym, and more! This place is truly unique, and, being huge history buffs, we were both so enamored with the well preserved nature of the old building intermingled with the modern decor. Anyone looking to stay in Grinnell should choose this place without a doubt: beyond the awe of the building the staff is kind and extremely helpful, and communication with the guests is flawless. Their internet was also top-notch if you need a good connection during your stay. We greatly look forward to coming back and staying longer next time- this place is one of a kind!

Really a fantastic experience. The building used to be a middle school, and has been converted into a modern hotel while still keeping the interesting structural elements of the school.
The rooms feel all-new with a modern aesthetic that generally means you're sitting in some designers uncomfortable vanity design, but all of the furniture and the bed are very comfortable. We lounged around for a bit in our room, and it was a comfortable, relaxing place.

There are other amenities we didn't explore quite as much. The included breakfast isn't the usual horror show from a hotel, but a light setup of fresh food. The selection was a bit narrow, but covered most of the bases.
We also used the facility for a large company function. The "ballroom" is actually the old gym, floor and all, but again, modernized just enough to be really nice.

With the friendly staff and great place, I can't recommend it enough.

On our way across the country, my husband's curiosity was piqued by this hotel on a google search and we were all so glad he found it! During the time we stayed, Covid was picking up again, and as our kid is too young to be vaccinated, and as an Asian-American family wearing masks, some of our other hotel stays in other parts of the country weren't as wonderful as Hotel Grinnell. All the cool, unique aspects that other reviews talk of were great (we had a sweet time just noticing all the details as we wandered through the halls), it was super clean and beautiful, and the staff was all so welcoming and easy-going. The food in the restaurant/bar was delicious and the staff was super helpful. Breakfast in the morning was stellar - yogurt parfait, breakfast burritos, fruit. Seriously the best breakfast at a hotel we have ever had. Everything felt more like an artfully, thoughtfully, and gorgeously designed home than a hotel. In our room, I loved the hardwood floors, the rain shower with black and white tiles, the cool Star Wars art on the walls, the comfortable bed... everything was so clean and beautiful. It was more expensive than we usually pay for a hotel, but it was so well worth it. Just a delight! Thank you Hotel Grinnell!

We love Hotel Grinnell because of all the ways they make your stay a special experience. No zombie-like employees. Instead you encounter engaged employees who seem to genuinely care about you. The hotel itself is super cool, clean and fun. If you feel like staying in, the restaurant has excellent food and drinks. And then there are all the fun games and great patio. We will be back!

I recently stayed a few nights at Hotel Grinnell and was pleasantly surprised with everything about the place. Awesome facility with creative touches that show the remnants of the old school, friendly staff, and good food at the restaurant.

Amazing rooms and the bar has great food and drinks at good prices. It’s very central so easy walking to shopping and restaurants. Everyone working here is very accommodating and super friendly. Would definitely recommend staying here

We had our wedding at Hotel Grinnell in July of 2019 and it was the most amazing day! Joni was so helpful in helping us plan our wedding. On our wedding day every detail was perfect and all of the staff was kind to our guests. The rooms, auditorium, ballroom, everything is uniquely designed and incredible. We loved the charm of this old school turned hotel and it was the perfect venue. If you want a perfect wedding that is also very affordable, Hotel Grinnell is the place! We can’t wait to go back on our anniversary!

Great place to stay. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is very good. The bar is good too. The rooms are most unusual since this was a school building at one time. The beds are very comfortable and the showers are great.
I also like the location in downtown Grinnell near Grinnell College. It's nice to walk around the park and the downtown streets. The hotel provides bikes also if you prefer riding. I plan to stay here every time I visit Grinnell.

Hotel Grinnell is a treasure! Every detail is well attended to, from the wonderful food and drinks in the Periodic Table to the bikes available for rides around town. The staff from the newest bartender to the owner (Angela Harrington) make you feel welcome...like family. The accommodations are 5 star for sure. The staff are 7 star without question! We look forward to returning and playing corn hole on the patio and trying more of the local beer!

Great place to kick your feet up and get comfortable. Renovated from an old school with a school theme. Original wood floors and high ceilings. Great in house eatery and bar. Great service. An irresistible old world charm with a modern twist!

What an amazing hotel and repurpose of an old high school! First off, the design really brought back memories of grade school. Wood flooring, old locker rooms as bathrooms, high ceilings and huge windows. Reminds me of my old elementary school. Secondly, the rooms are fun and inviting. Each room comes omplete with a chalkboard and funky chairs. The king bed and pillows were super comfortable. I LOVED the rainfall shower. Great room overall. Lastly, the old gym is now a ballroom, and the auditorium is great for presentations. Overall, so wonderful hotel and I cant wait to come back.

A hidden gem that was absolutely delightful. The staff could not have been kinder or more accommodating. It was our anniversary and our room was prepared beautifully. Great bar and lovely patio- especially at night with the fire pits and lighting. Looking forward to staying there again!

We loved the Hotel Grinnell! We stayed there when my son had a campus visit to Grinnell. The hotel is walking distance from the school, which allowed us to explore the area without having to drive or worry about parking. The hotel is unique and has a cool vibe. The ceilings in the rooms are high (rooms are the former classrooms of the school) and the staff is very friendly. We also enjoyed the restaurant and bar area.

Hotel Grinnell was an excellent venue for our daughter’s wedding in September 2019. The original plan for an outdoor ceremony in nearby Central Park was spoiled by Mother Nature, but the hotel staff went above and beyond to help us move the ceremony into the hotel’s auditorium. The ballroom was a terrific reception venue and the unique bunk rooms were enjoyed by the bridal party. So many of our friends and family raved about the wonderful food, fantastic staff, unique hotel rooms and terrific patio space. This hotel is truly a wonderful asset to the Grinnell community and we hope to enjoy many other special events in your wonderful venue.
