Beautiful and healthy prairie with a diverse range of wildflowers, grasses, and wildlife. The whole area has a great history (you can see clear evidence of the Santa Fe Trail) and there is a QR code you can scan on your phone for an audio tour along the trail if you so choose!

Some of the best remnants of the Santa Fe Trail in Kansas. A nice walking path let's you walk right into the ruts, which are in a field of native prairie.

Really interesting site for those interested in John Brown history. Right up there with Hudson OH. Alton IL and Harper's Ferry WV. The Iron gate in the picture is under construction by local blacksmiths who love the site. We met them and they are very dedicated to making the site even more interesting to visit.

Beautiful place with a great history! Standing in the wagon ruts of the Santa fe trail is quite amazing thinking about the men and women that came so long before you.
The park is open everyday from Dawn until dusk and holds events at certain times of the year. A nice, quiet place to spend a few hours of your day on a self guided tour of the grounds.
This is the site of the first battle between free State supporters and proslavery supporters in 1856, and is credited by many historians as being the first battle of the civil war.

Hard to believe you can still see the swales from the wagon wheels so long ago.

Cool stop to get out and stretch. The short walk has an audio tour explaining the area when you scan the QR code. The Ruts you get to walk through are bigger than I would have expected! Would recommend.

I've been to places along the Oregon Trail from end to end claiming to have ruts and few places have them as noticeable as here. (This site was on the Santa Fe Trail but same wagons and ruts.) Don't look for wheel ruts like you would see from a pickup on a modern ranch, look for a path worn down lower than the surrounding land. Unfortunately, pictures don't seem to capture ruts well but you can see them plainly at this location in person. Hike south from the parking area about 100 yards to the sign. Ruts pass on both sides of the sign.

It is a beautiful place to go, and is one of the best places to go in Baldwin. The wagon ruts are amazing there, and kept really well.

Very interesting place. Even though its a replica. Field looks like every other field, not much there not matter how you walk off the trail. Field.

It was pretty vool. Lot of places to hike and see where this battle took place. Covid kept us from seeing in any buildings. We will try again when normalcy reigns

Neet place. I have to admit I parked under the shade trees and enjoyed my lunch.
