Such a coool, short, and easy stop!
In the same parking area as Dunnings Springs. You walk about .5 miles down a paved road, closed due to erosion/road slippage. Must stay on the road, the sides are private property.
There was some construction at the entrance in late July 22 but you could still access it easily.
You can't walk in too far due to a collapse at the entrance of the cave, but it was still really cool to see and feel how cold it is at the entrance!

Stone entrance stairs are being rebuilt. There is still access to the cave, but you cannot drive to it. You have to park about a half mile west along Ice Cave Road or west at Palisade Park

I have been to thus place before but my first experience here was during Nordic fest in 2019. The town of Decorah explodes to 3 or 4 times larger due to the crowd. This means a boon to the local economy but also means everywhere you want to try and escape to is also packed with people. I was never alone, not one minute during my adventure. Parking alone was a chore. Despite this memory I returned just the other day. Parking was free of vehicles. No crowd. Able to freely walk at the park. Only one set back was the main road leading up the hill was closed. I had to park and walk up a near 45 degree incline. I have no problem with that but I can bet many of the local older folks do. I did see a few people walking their dogs there too. Overall it's a great park to go exploring. Nice views from top of surrounding area. In my opinion go there during the week. Better opportunity to see everything.

Ice Cave Road is half plowed and half groomed in winter, so it is one of the best winter hiking paths. If you are looking for the Cave itself, take the road, not the trail along the river.

Our pup Alaska and us had a lot of fun. It was very beautiful!

Most of your track to get to this spot is on a closed-off paved Road that is now only open to foot traffic and bikes. Going up one flight of stairs gets you to the opening of The Cave in just a minute or less. You will cool off instantly as the air temperature inside the cave is drastically different from that on a hot summer day. Definitely worth a quick walk!

An easy walk up the hill and a cool stop. Not a lot here but it's a cool little cave and worth stopping to see. Steps are currently under construction but there's a small path up to the cave to the left.

Perfect place to visit on a hot summer day! This isn’t a big cave, but the hike to it is short and easy, and you are rewarded with a cool respite inside. If you catch it at the right time of day, the sun will shine through a tiny “key hole” up above. The kids had a fun time exploring the outer trails and looking for this opening into the main cave.

Very cool caves with ice from Mar-Sept. Worth checking out at any time of year! There's lots of little caves if you follow the rough trails up. Terrifyingly awesome, doing it alone made me feel like it was either the start of a horror movie, or of a movie of a hikee biting their arm off to escape fallen rocks. Either way, do it! You can get all the way into multiple caves. Right off the road, look for the sign.

This place is great for a day hike and exploration. Be sure to wear hiking apparel and footwear as it may be muddy and possibly slippery. Well marked trails and many miles to explore makes for a very fun day for the whole family

Nestled between Palisade Park and Dunning Springs is Ice Cave. Picnic tables available. The cave has been explored and found to be beautiful and expensive. Unfortunately this cave has not been open to tours. You can peek into the cave after climbing the stone staircase.

Loved it. I've been handicapped for two years and haven't really done anything physically challenging.

>In one hospital visit, I contracted/suffered drop foot, blood clots in lungs, micro-strokes, coma 20 days, kidney failure (although they work again and no more dialysis!), sepsis poisoning (gone now) and a triple bypass. <

So as easy as those stone steps would be for you, it took me some time and effort! At the top, by myself, I felt a real sense of accomplishment. Especially being able to look up and see a Stone Cliff face, and then stand in the entrance of the ice cave and feel that awesome cold in what was 90 degree weather. This climb meant a lot to me. I think anyone would enjoy this relatively easy mini Adventure.

Very cool little cave. Right off the paved road that is closed. There is also a lot of nice walking trails in area.....that do not lead to the cave.

If you are in Decorah you should check out the Ice Cave. It is an interesting geological site. There are also a lot of great trails around it. If you are into hiking and outdoor activities, check it out.

Cool place on a hot day! There was a mist or fog in the air as I descended a few feet through the opening. (Caution, enter at your own risk!)

Cool place to see. Road is closed, so you have to park down the road and walk but worth it! Keep your eye out for @DecorahRocks

Had an absolute blast. Wife and kids squeezed through a crack and found summer cool stuff. Explored around the sides and found a bunch of other cool spots.
