Decorah Community Prairie

Such a cute little prairie! Stopped in late July and the wildflowers were still blooming like crazy which we didn't expect. It was jaw dropping! There's a little butterfly garden here as well with lots of informative signs displaying the types of plants found at the prairie. Such a beautiful place for a quick walk thru heaven, and of course for pictures with wildflowers 🤷
THERE IS NO SHADE HERE. BRING WATER. There's a little tent near the butterfly garden but that's it- bring water, especially in the summer! We thought we'd be fine since it was a quick stop- we were wrong lol

Follow the mowed paths (and follow the brochure) to find all the native prairie plants. See butterflies, birds, bees and a bald eagle (if you are lucky, as we were today).

The 35 acre Community Prairie in Decorah abutts the Upper Iowa River and offers several well maintained trails (and a maintained butterfly garden) that, as a prairie, changes routinely in it's natural beauty.

Very peaceful walk. I would drive 3 hours again to come here. I especially like that people walk their dogs thru here and i didn't see any dog poo anywhere. They had dog bag stations and people must really be using them. The paths were very wide and ran parallel to the river. Theres a huge beautiful oak tree you can rest under. Love this place!

My first time there! A beautiful spot with access to the Upper Iowa River, a gorgeous butterfly garden, and the community garden. I can't wait to go back and see it when the flowers are out and blooming!

Beautiful 46 +/- acre prarie with mowed paths for easy walking. Bordered by the Upper Iowa River and flood dikes. Fantastic views of bluffs and natural prarie grasses. In the summer there is also a butterfly garden in the heart of the prarie along with a community prarie. Leashed dogs are welcome. Great location in West Decorah off of 5th Avenue.

Wonderful community resource. Represents the best of what community planning can do; preserve open space, provide education, insure the river can be appreciated and not damaged. Beautiful.

You can see butterflies and deer and fireflies at night.

A beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors or take some family portraits.
