Ables Animal Hospital

I can't say enough good about Ables Animal Hospital. With much sadness, I had to bring one of our beloved kitties that we'd had for many years in to be put to sleep.

Dr. Ables and all his staff were so caring and compassionate throughout the entire process explaining what would happen and afterwards how everything went and that our beloved Missy did not suffer at all. It made what was for me a very unpleasant thing to have to do much easier to bear. All that and the charges for the procedure were very low.

I highly recommend Ables Animal Hospital.

Hands down the best vet and staff I’ve ever taken a dog to! Dr. Able and his team genuinely care and they love what they do. Not only are they very knowledgeable, but they have incredible social skills as well. My dogs love them and I’ll never go anywhere else!

This is the best vet office in Wise County hands down! From the front staff, vet techs to Dr Ables. We have been to about everyone and although they were good we hadn’t experienced great until we took our pets here. Thank you all for doing what you do and please keep doing it.

We've had pets, and we've had vets, but never a facility like this. Compassionate, affordable, THE BEST. I've been to places where there are great people, but here? ALL the people here care about their animal patients and owners. Our dog's wellness visit was so affordable, and Dr. Ables talked with us until all our questions were answered. Honestly, it seems like a really well-run business. No fluff, just what they need in order to provide outstanding service. Well worth the drive from Fort Worth to Decature. We've found a vet for life! I cannot thank Able's Animal Hospital staff enough!

We've known Dr Ables for 20 plus years and he is our Vet of choice. He's has always been there to help us with dairy goats, dogs and whatever else we've brought to him. His staff is top notch and always very helpful regardless of regular hours or emergency situations. In a day & time when everything has gone "corporate" and "self service", Dr Ables & team keep on being the real deal !!!!!!! Keep up the great work !!!!!

it's hard to find a vet who is good with goats.

Dr. Joe + team are GREAT. they keep my pack goats (yes...... pack...... goats) in top shape. :)

I have never met a more caring, trustworthy, and loving veterinarian. The care Ables provided for my dog was beyond what I could have ever imagined and they were very supportive through the entire process. They are extremely affordable, probably the most affordable veterinarian you will find, and they do not take advantage at all’s Please take your pets here, you will not regret it.

Took my dog there to get him neutered and never expected such a quality and pleasant experience. Friendly staff and a very comfortable environment. A 90lb Rottweiler is no walk in the park, but from the moment i arrived every worry i had was dismissed by the environment alone, very large kennels, a low population of other pets, and they let me leave a couple of his toys with him. it honestly felt like having a private veterinarian, i cannot recommend this place enough for people who dont like the idea of dropping their pet off at a big busy veterinarian office. The price was great too so thats a bonus.

Ables was referred to us by our neighbor. Had to take my dog in for minor surgery. Can’t say enough good things about this place. Fantastic vet and staff.

We had to take my mother's little Yorkie (Layla) to Dr. Abels last year and discovered she had heart problems. Dr. Abels was great and treated her with medication that has kept her acting like a dog half her age up until now. At almost 14 years old, her poor little heart couldn't keep up any longer though, and it became clear over the last few days it was time to let her go.

Dr. Abels was the most caring, compassionate vet I've ever taken a dog to for euthanasia. He made sure I knew exactly what was going to happen, what to expect, warning me of possible side effects to the drugs, etc. He talked to sweet Layla like she was his own throughout and treated her remains with utmost respect. He made sure she was wrapped in her favorite blanket cuddled with all her favorite stuff animals and placed in a manner of respect and love for us to take home for burial. His words were so comforting to me as well.

It's clear how much Dr. Abels cares for his patients and loves his job, even during the toughest parts. You couldn't find a better veterinarian for treating your fur babies during life, or lovingly assisting them on to the next one.

There are not nearly enough good words to say about Dr. Joe and his staff. Dr. Joe has been the vet for all my childhood pets for as long as I can remember and he has always been nothing short of amazing. I took my dog in last Wednesday not thinking it would be anything serious, all to find out that it was very serious. When I left, everyone at Ables Animal Hospital got to work on my pup to try to figure out what was going on and within a short amount of time they were able to let me know they had found a mass in her abdomen that turned into being something much more. Long story short, we proceeded with surgery and Dr. Joe and his techs opened up my dog to find something they had never seen before. With what he saw on the inside they were able to do what needed to be done and get my sweet dog back home in the same day.
Importantly to me, Dr. Joe was and has always been the most kind and compassionate vet. He led my visit with KNOWLEDGE, SCRIPTURE and HONESTY assuring me that whatever happened my dog was going to be okay. We all were hoping for the best and that she get to go home with me, and he was able to do just that. All glory to God, but praise also be to Ables Animal Hospital because if it hadn't of been for Dr. Joe's knowledge and confidence in the man that the Lord has called him to be - I might not have my dog today. Since then he has also checked in with me to see how she has been doing since her procedure.
So, thank you Dr. Joe & Staff because without you all I wouldn't have my sweet Lily. Thank you all for loving her while in your care and also doing everything to ensure with honesty that I would get to see her again.

I recently made my first visit to Ables Animal Hospital with my 9 year old Lab and was thoroughly pleased with the results. Not only was the entire team very professional and courteous they carefully explained every detail of the examination and discussed options for her care. Dr. Ables shows great care and understanding of the need for reasonably priced service. Even though Decatur is a bit of a drive for us we will continue to use Ables Animal Hospital and would recommend them to our friends.

Dr. Ables is a wonderful caring vet. He has a private practice and a great staff. The clinic is easy to access and park. Very low wait time with an appointment.

Dr. Able is one of the best veterinarians I have ever experienced. I had a very sick kitten and did not get a good response from other places. I called Dr. Able over the weekend and he gave me some good advice on what to do. The next day my kitten is more active, still took her in to check how things are moving. I fully trust this vet and am so thankful for taking my call to help her. I will be bringing you my other animals for now on.

Took my dog here after being referred by our vet who was booked solid and couldn’t fit him In for a bowel obstruction.
Dr Joe took incredible care of Gunner (our dog) and me! He spent time explaining every little thing he did and why he did it. It’s been awhile since we’ve had a vet that spent so much time and energy providing the best care.
His Staff- Marla and Lorraine were incredible as well. So so helpful, so good with Gunner, won his trust over quickly.
Gunner is finally on the mend thanks to Dr Joe.
This is where we will be going for all of our vet care from here on out. I can’t thank them enough for going above and beyond for our first fur baby when he was so so sick ❤

My puppy was very sick and it was a Sunday afternoon. I called the office and the voicemail gave the emergency number to reach Dr. Ables. When we phoned him, he gave us some suggestions of things to do to avoid the "after hours charge". We did end up needing to bring her in and he took excellent care of our puppy, found out what the issue was and was able to treat her and sent her home with us. It was only a fraction of the cost had we taken her to any other Animal Hospital. I would highly recommend Dr. Ables to anyone wanting quality pet care.

Dr. Ables and his staff are wonderful, caring, and patient. They are very helpful, are willing to explain things, and try to be cost-effective.
I am especially glad that I was referred to Dr. Ables when I “rescued” an adult dog who, I was surprised to discover, had heart worm. Not only did Dr. Ables treat her effectively (for far less than I feared treatment would cost), he also kept ME calm about the whole process, which wasn’t easy. 🥰

We had an emergency with our red heeler. And with it being Thanksgiving week, our dogs normal vet could not see her due to so many bookings. Dr. Ables did not hesitate to tell us to come on, he would see what he could do. We are beyond satisfied with Dr. Ables and his entire staff for their compassion during our visit. We also appreciate that Dr. Ables explained everything to us in a manner so that it was easy to understand what possibilities there were, what would be done to diagnose, and then what actually was done. Thank you Ables Animal Hospital!!

I truly appreciate Dr Able and Staff they take excellent care of my pup and I don’t feel raked over the coals financially when I leave.
