Axel's Restaurant Mendota

We had a truly excellent supper. The walleye fish was excellent, and the service by Patrick was perfect. The manager came to ask if we were delighted or in need of anything. Portions are generous and service impeccable. Those who love nature will enjoy the outdoors patio right on the Great Rivers Bicycle Trail (stop if you are biking), whereas indoors it is a quaint upholstered old fashioned supper club, simply delightful and elegant. Date night? One could not score more points than at this place. Anniversary or special occasion? I would choose this place in a heartbeat. “I’ll be back!”

The food was excellent, a little pricey so be ready for it. It was busy so the service was a little slow but the atmosphere was nice.

First time here. Came in for the with my family for Mother's Day Dinner Buffet.
Our server Mitchell was amazing!! He was very attentive! All the staff were on point & very friendly.
The food was well seasoned & looked beautiful!
The whole time we were there, we didn't feel rushed nor did it feel chaotic. Very well organized! My Mother loved it!

We were here for a wedding reception and I can't say enough about how wonderful everything was. Staff were amazing and the food was delicious and what amazing ambiance! Loved it!

Peaceful outside! Faced the forest. Flower baskets were beautiful! Food was fantastic. Popovers are a must! Had Moscato, French Onion Soup and Walleye Bites. Mom had Walleye and Green Beans with a side of Garlic Mashed Potatoes.

A traditional supper club atmosphere in historic Mendota. The seating consists of the high back black leather with some wrap around booths and dimly lit dining room. Outdoor seating is available also. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. We ordered steak bites consisting of pieces of filet mignon. They were prepared well but were over-seasoned. The walleye was anicely portioned fillet that was very well cooked.

A wonderful supper club dining experience at Axel's. We fish fried on Friday 8 July and really enjoyed the well-prepared walleye and shrimp platter. The portions were spot-on and appreciated by us hungry travelers...Service was top notch. Well done Axel's! We highly recommend and will be back next time we're in the Mendota, MN area!

Food was delicious, staff was friendly and attentive. When we asked if there were any non dairy dessert options, the chef actually created one and brought it to our table! Everything was wonderful.

Delicious food! We haven't been there since covid! We have fish kabobs which was the special fish of the day. Our friend had the walleye & my husband had shrimp risotto. Excellent! Thank you. AXELS!

Have been going to Axels Rivergrill in Mendota for many years. They have seen some changes of late, and seem to be going through some growing pains. That being said most of the great staff still remain and are still crushing it. We have noticed a change in the bar atmosphere. I think largely due to new management in that area. The bar keeps are for the most part are great. However there is definitely an attitude and rudeness coming from new bar manager. I hope that things will someday resume to a kinder and more relaxed scene. Go Axels we believe in you.

We have been here a few times and I had to give these fine folks a big Thank You for the awesome dining experience. Our waitress, Karla, was phenomenal, friendly, and very good at making sure we were taken care of. I had the prime rib with mushrooms and mashed potatoes which were cooked to perfection! We will be back to be sure!

Out for a belated Birthday meal with my friend. The popovers were wonderful. I had Filet mignon with Asparagus. PERFECT!. Attentive servers. Moderately expensive, but worth it! A good place for special events.

What an amazing Gem!! So lucky to have this beautiful restaurant to go to. Beautiful old school setting and atmosphere. We love the Art hanging on the walls. The food is delicious. My Steak was cooked perfect and was mouth watering delicious. I also had a Wedge Salad, Garlic Mashed Potatoes and yummy Risotto with fresh Parmesan Cheese on top. This is a place where I love to belly up to the bar, get my wings, bull bites, a few martinis 🍸 and then talk about how amazing life really is when you choose to look at it that way🥰

I work in a memory care, and today we ate at Axels for our lunch outing. I couldn’t thank the staff enough. From accommodating a last minute change in our party size to opening the doors when we arrived and departed, the staff ensured our residents all had an excellent experience. They brought out a delicious looking cake for our resident’s birthday and he was thrilled! Each of them rated the outing 4 or 5 stars. Thank you Axels for making so many people’s day today!

Very nice restaurant with an old school lounge style vibe. Steaks, Walleye, Salads are very popular. The popovers you get with your meal are INCREDIBLE. Friendly staff. Parking can be a hassle but not much can be done about that.

Incredible steak and very helpful staff. I had questions about which cut would be the best rare and they brought out someone from the back to answer all my questions. The wine paring they suggested as well was awesome! One of the best steaks I’ve had in the Twin Cities! Great service was an added bonus!

Cajun chicken pasta was awesome! And our server was pretty cool too! Great experience, always is!

All the employees are extremely friendly and tentative to our needs. The experience starts off with a Popover, if you ask (which I did) they'll heat them up you. Soaps are excellent, as is a very nice selection on the menu. The atmosphere is like a old dinner club, quite charming.
