Maya Moon Lodge

I absolutely loved my stay at Maya Moon Lodge and was sad to leave after 3 nights. I stayed in the dorm and found it to be very comfortable. The property is surrounded by nature and feels remote, but it only takes 25 minutes to walk at a leisurely pace to San Marcos, and you can catch a water taxi from the dock on the property to any of the other villages on the lake. The restaurant/bar area is very social but without a party vibe (which is exactly what I was looking for). If you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing place to stay, I highly recommend Maya Moon.

I absolutely loved my stay here! The owners are very communicative over email. They arranged for a driver to pick me up from the airport for a fee which made getting all the way to the lake a seamless process. The room was clean and comfortable. You can hear people in other rooms around but everyone is so respectful and considerate after 10pm it was never an issue. One of the best parts of this place is the people. As a solo female traveler I felt very safe, and was delighted to be able to socialize with other solo female travelers at the little restaurant / bar. Even the bartender/servers are mostly women traveling for weeks or months periods. Yet it was low key socializing and not a party atmosphere which I loved. The swimming was incredible, you can easily flag down boats directly on their dock to ferry you from village to village, and nothing will beat the view from my hammock on the porch of my room. If I return to Guatemala I will absolutely be back to Maya Moon.

I had the best stay at Maya Moon Lodge, it’s a little slice of paradise on the Lake that’s close to everything but away from the chaos of the more touristy areas.
The beds were warm and comfy, and the rooms and bathrooms super clean.
What made this place though were the work away girls. I met 4 of them over my stay and each were so lovely and went above and beyond to make you feel welcome, which gave the place a really lovely atmosphere that made you want to hang out in the bar/restaurant space. Despite it at times being very busy they made sure everyone felt welcome, and even if they weren’t on shift all the girls were super helpful, answering questions and giving advice/tips/recommendations for the Lake. Special shout out to Harry for helping me sort out medication when I was sick too.

The private rooms are newly built, so much so you can smell the new construction. The views are UNBEATABLE, and waking up to that top desk vista is a dream!

The dock that’s attached to the property is super convenient for boat boarding and enjoying the water 💧

At the cafe I got to enjoy their beef burger on gluten free bread, which I deeply enjoyed! I stepped away for a few moments and the dish was cleared away. When Kate, the owner realized, she offered to make me a fresh one!! I really appreciated that.

Pro tip: the stairs that take you into the hostel are plenty and can be a nice workout going up and down 🏃🏻‍♀

I did not stay here- only stopped for lunch. Nice quiet swim spot close to San Marcos for drinks, great people and a lovely view. The staff are awesome. I had a sore throat and they made me THE best hot toddy- was like a doctor!

Awesome place a little outside of town. Has an awesome garden and outdoor areas. The restaurant is amazing. We loved our stay!

The staff at Maya Moon are absolute legends; as are the guests... this place certainly attracts the right kind of people. And don't get me started on the fish & chips. While you may be reticent to fly so far across the world and order something so quintessentially British, the immaculate beer batter will definitely make it worth outing yourself as a Brit abroad.

Beautiful lodge by the lake. Quiet with good view of the Volcanos. Very friendly staff. Clean and comfortable bed. I stayed in the dorm room and its value for money.

This BEAUTIFUL hostel is right on the lake with a great dock (so the boats can drop you off there) and swimming spot and hammocks for just chilling under the sun. The manager Kate is super friendly and very knowledgeable of the lake and surroundings. Chris, the owner, is quite a character always with a cool story to share. Food is great! Try the fish and chips and chicken goujons, which are basically chicken fingers (although they're SO big I think they're pterodactyl fingers or something) 🤣🤣

All in all, super recommended! You won't regret it.

Beautiful 9 night stay at Maya Moon, you will be entranced upon arrival, the staff was very friendly and accommodating, the food was wonderfully made and delicious, fantastic swimming off the dock we had a nice ritual of watching the sunrise and jumping on to start the day with intention and energy, nice location on the lake with easy boat rides to either Panajchel or Santiago Atitlan and all the magical villages in between, we walked to San Marcos/Tzununa center often and tuk-tuks were always readily available when we wanted a break. Our room (Colobri) was spacious and perfect for what we needed, great kitchen, bathroom with hot water, the private bedroom has a nice balcony with a hammock to relax in and a nice view of the Lake, truly can't say enough positive things about our experiences here, would for sure stay here again, a perfect balance for your stay at Lago Atitlan!

I had a beautiful experience at Maya Moon. The location was great, fresh delicious food. Staff was very helpful and accommodating making sure my stay was comfortable. I felt safe and relaxed and the views were incredible. Definitely will return.

My fourth time staying here and I have extended my stay each time because Maya Moon is so lovely! Maya Moon boasts an idyllic location with a private dock and an amazing spot to swim. It is also conveniently located just outside of town which makes for quiet evenings and mornings with the option of a short walk, tuk tuk ride, or boat ride to gather amenities or for exploring the many nearby towns each with their own charm. The location is only topped by the warm hospitality from the owners, pets, and staff alike. They make guests feel like family and are always happy to answer any questions about transport or activities. I've had the privilege of staying in each of the cabins, which each host super comfortable beds, amazing views, and comfy hammocks. Maya Moon is a must stay for your time at the lake!

Great place with a really good restaurant. The food is fresh and mostly homemade. The view is breathtaking.
The dorms are clean and cozy.
The stuff is friendly and they all speak English, it helps a lot when your Spanish is not as good as it should be.

Maya Moon has an amazing breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and smoothie menu. You can sit at the dock, swim, eat/drink etc., or sit at the tables and enjoy the view! Portions are big. The brownie sundae is my fav dessert. All around great spot!

Awesome place, amazing view, lovely staff. Irdered the fish & chips was a huge portion & super delicious.

We were lucky enough to book Casa Suena and loved every minute of our time there. Awesome staff, excellent cocktails, and super chill vibes. All with the most gorgeous scenery on the lake!

Had a wonderful time at Maya Moon Lodge. The room was enormous with fantastic views over the lake. We slept with the curtains open to admire the stars or lightning or glow of the volcano. The restaurant was a relaxing place to sit and take in the view. The food was of good quality and the beer was cold. The pier made for great sun bathing and an excellent way to enjoy the waters. Service was friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend if you are looking to relax, have no noise and so very little but enjoy a book or two. Boats to nearby villages are easily accessed. Oh, and the hot water showers were brilliant.

Everything was amazing! The view, the restaurant, the lake for swimming, our room! Is like Glamping on the mountain/jungle! People are super friendly too. Walking or tuktuk San Marcos too

One of the best values on the lake, especially in the neighborhood of Tzununa and San Marcos. It's hard to find a nice place on the water for these prices. It's also super quiet and the staff is fantastic.

Maya Moon has a wonderful restaurant- the food is SO delicious, the service is excellent and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. MM feels peaceful and like a sanctuary. Grateful for this gem! 🌙
