An absolute gem of a place to stop for a drink and some food (and a little respite from quite a few kilometres of gravel roads) if you are driving the scenic route up the fjord in this area. Free coffee, tasty soup and hot dogs, and a really delightful and characterful parlor and dining room.

My favorite little town getaway in Iceland. This was my second time coming here, and the first time I got to stay in the hotel overnight. I came with my husband on our honeymoon, and booked a room in the main hotel.

When we arrived (after the excitement of the approach) we were informed that we'd been given a free upgrade to the 4-bedroom rental house because it was a special occasion for us and it hadn't been booked. The staff were friendly and polite, the pumpkin soup they had for lunch was phenomenal, and the common area in the hotel was extremely relaxing. With the fjord mountains around us and the massive waterfall, it's the perfect place to hide from the world for a bit and play boardgames to a stunning backdrop. My only regret was that we stayed for one night.

I highly recommend the factory tour. It's interesting and thorough and gives a unique insight into Icelandic history, and proceeds go to restoration and preservation of the building.

I loved, loved staying here. It was my favorite hotel of out entire trip. The little town itself is magical and beautiful and the hotel is warm and homey. The dogs are so fun to sit with and reminded me of being back home. Breakfast was delicious, and we also had a very nice soup and cake there for lunch. The dining room is cozy and makes for a very nice area to relax in, as do the other common areas. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean, comfortable.

Lovely small hotel almost at the end of the world. Beautifully located right next to the waterfall. Nice and cozy interior with a lots of historical pictures, maps, figures ect. Staff very helpfull. Every Day at 10am there is a guided tour to an old fishing factory that worked in the past. Rooms and wc/shower facilities are clean. Access with moderate quality gravel Road, most likely only for 4x4 vehicles. Highly recommended.

We randomly stopped here after trying the coastal road and were warmly welcomed to take a break and enjoy a free hot drink. The people working here are super nice and they have cute dogs! They also have one of the best carrot cake I ever had. I would definitely take a night here next time I come around!

You wouldn't expect to find such an interesting place so far away in the middle of nowhere. But it's definitely worth to drive all the way and enjoy the spectacular view as well as the hotel itself. The food is very good, coffee and tea are free and the interiors are very cozy. The owner is eager to share his stories about the history of the place and offers tours of the nearby abandoned herring factory. A must for all photographers!

can't say enough good things about this hotel. it's quirky and full of old world character. the staff and people who live in the village are the nicest you could hope to meet. breakfast is an amazing spread with plenty of choice. and totally recommend the pan fried cod for dinner. Take the herring factory tour offered through the hotel, it really gives you a sense of the place and the people.

This is a beautiful hotel in a charming little village. The owners and staff were wonderful and the room was cozy and comfortable. The hotel, formerly a dormitory for women who worked for the herring factory, has been minimally remodeled to provide comfortable guest rooms and a functional dining room and kitchen. It is full of history and charm. The local specialties prepared by the chef were so delicious I didn't want the meal to end. The tour of the old herring factory was absolutely fascinating and the walk to the top of the waterfall was invigorating. If you walk up the road to Kjósavík you may see seals sunning themselves on the rocks.

Unbelievably warm and welcoming. A stop at the end of a windy, winding coastal road which was everything we dreamed of - warm soup, fresh bread and some nice coffee. The people who run the hotel were so pleasant and made us feel right at home.

When our car went off a gravel road about 15 km far from Djupavik, a passing by local offered to drop us at Djupavik hotel to call for road assistance since there was no signal available in the area. When Magnus, the manager of the hotel, and Heðinn, his brother in law, heard our story they immediately dropped everything and offered to help us. Together we went straight to where our car was, and with astonishing ease and expertise they removed all the stones under the car to avoid any damage, and pulled it back on the road within 15min! Our relief was enormous as although our car was fully insured who knows how much we would have to wait for road assistance in such a remote area, so they literally saved the day! After having a swim in the nearby hot tub we decided to call it a day and spend the night at their hotel. And what a wonderful decision that was! The hotel is very beautiful and cozy, with a chalet type warm atmosphere and genuinely kind staff, not to mention the two adorable dogs! The location is fantastic, a stone's throw from a waterfall and overall a great base to explore hiking. The dinner we had at the restaurant cooked by Magnus was simply delicious, and the old factory and exhibition next door is a must see. So all in all, an unfortunate event turned out to be fortunate as we got to enjoy a fantastic stay and meet wonderful people!

This was probably our favourite place to stay in the West Fjorda aside from our tent. Worth the money to experience an amazingly comfortable stay and very homey. All three staff were extremely friendly and pleasant. We did not stay for the tour of the abandoned herring factory, but spent some time wandering around the building and the current art installation by The Factory. We also enjoyed dinner thr night we arrived which was delicious, fairly priced for Iceland and good portions. The drive up the peninsulas and fjords was definitely worth it if not for this spot, but the views alone. Also, there are two adorable dogs that live here. Need I say more dog lovers?

Stopped in for a coffee and a little walk around. Very friendly staff including two great dogs always happy for a pet. Playful sheepdog you can run around with outside. Free coffee peaceful, quiet, beautiful little “rustic” hotel. Will absolutely be staying there next trip to Iceland! Such a treat and beautiful art exhibition in the old herring factory which was just mesmerizing.

'old' style Icelandic house/hotel with cosy homely feel overlooking fjord. Gluten free bread served if you give them notice.

Undeniably my absolute favorite place on the planet. The moment we arrived, 8 year old Freya the sheepdog greeted us and led us into the hotel to her master. The hostess there was very nice and led us to one of two cottages where we had rented two bedrooms on the upper floor. While the cabins are shared, this makes for a good thing because it helps create a community around the hotel. Everyone who comes here immidiately falls in love with the place. The food is great too. Get any kind of fried fish and you can't go wrong. After eating dinner I recommend driving up the coast to Krossneslaug hot springs where you can have a geothermally heated swim in the pool or hot top overlooking the arctic ocean! Only be aware that the changing situation can be... european. You can still have privacy if you use the stall, however. The best thing to around the hotel is the hike that starts at the back of the southernmost cottage. If you are lucky you can take Freya with you - we did. She is very helpful and inspiring for anyone young doing the hike. The start is quite steep so pace yourself and you can reach the flat top of the fjell where the hike overlooks Djupavìk from the top of the same waterfall that goes down next to the old herring factory - which is an attraction in itself. After crossing a few streams the hike heads down the barren landscape to the road that you can walk back on. The round trip is 5 kilometers so allow about 2-3 hours for the hike as it is steep in places. I really hope this review can help out the owners. Thank you so much Hotel Djupavìk!

Warms your heart!
This is a small, casual and cosy hotel in the middle of nowhere. The manager Mr. Magnus is very accommodating and always ready to assist. They have a nice cosy restaurant serving typical fish and meat dishes. Tea and coffee is always on and it seems it complimentary. The view is simply lovely from the hotel of the fjord/sound. The nearby closed down herring factory is a must see. Mr. Magnus offers tours twice a day. Nice place.

Great cake buffet and friendly service, though only every second Sunday. We ate and talked comfortably for about 4 hours, with all-you-can-eat desserts, coffee and smoked lamb. Reasonably priced, and free Wi-Fi. They even washed our camping pot for us! They also offer tours of the fish factory.

We spent several days at Hotel Djúpavík for a wedding and loved every second of it. The staff is so nice, and the scenery is incredible. Keep in mind, you're not booking The Ritz here. The rooms are small and you share a bathroom. But it's roughing it in the best way. I would go back and stay anytime I am in Iceland.

And the soups are really good too.

Great quiet place. Shared bathrooms but no issues. Staff is very friendly. There's an amazing waterfall to the left of the hotel. Very secluded and highly recommended if you like off the beaten path. Wi-Fi is great.
