Mar Guesthouse

Stayed here some years back, nice cosy place and the lady tending to the place was nice and helpful.

Used google review as a platform to give support to the owners and staff of Mar Guesthouse as I Saw the news regarding Icelandic volcanic activity and realised that I’ve previously stayed in this town and particularly this guest house. Hope everyone is safe there!

Trendy hotel , beautiful spacious rooms with cathedral ceilings, and great amenities (shared kitchen with refrigeration). The room rates are also extremely affordable. Although you share 4 full baths with showers per floor, we never had to wait. The staff is also extremely friendly. However be certain you check in between 2pm and 6pm, since there will be no one at the desk later than that. They need to post after-hours check-in instructions. Be sure to get the owner's email address when you make reservations. You can use their WIFI and password to E-mail the owner, who will give you a numeric key code to punch in to a magnetically locked key box to get your key and get in the room.

The guest house is well designed and furnished. The rooms are large and clean.
I was in a well designed open plan studio.
The entrance was wide and roomy with a wall of storage on one side and a private bathroom on the other side.
The lounge area had a settee and coffee table.
The kitchenette had a counter, cupboards (with all the necessary pots, plates and utensils) sink, fridge, stove, oven and a dining table and chairs.
The bedrooms area had a desk by the window through which I took my pictures of the "Midnight Sun"
I could have stayed there forever.

Fabulous place, compact but completely equipped. I had a wonderful view outside. Unfortunately, it was cloudy so I didn't see the Midnight Sun, but the Midnight twilight was something worth seeing, from the comfort of my room.
The landlady was very friendly and helpful.

Mar sents their guests a code for a security box with the room key in it. Therefore, we weren't dependent on a certain arrival time which is a huge plus. Especially in Iceland, when you have daylight until 12pm and can do stuff until late night.

The Guesthouse and rooms seems to be very new. It does not offer breakfast but they have a nice and big shared kitchen on the ground floor.

The Mar Guesthouse belonged to the most inexpensive hotels on our trip and offered for us the best price/quality ratio.

Close to the Blue lagoon. Good price (pretty high but you are in Iceland so...get use to that). Clean. Washing machine available. Close to groceries. And the best part... Check in with a email you receive!!! No need for someone to be there and all the instructions are in the email. We loved it!

Very good Guesthouse! Big rooms, clean and comfy beds. Big clean modern bathrooms and very big kitchen. Very friendly helpful staff. Close to Blue Lagoon and Airport. Cool photo spots in the surrounding bay.

Very simple, very cheap, very CLEAN brand new built accommodation, self service system of check in and out, 4 WC each with wet room walk in shower and heated floor and open shared kitchenette for use of all guests. Grindavik is nothing special but superb guesthouse as a stop over

Absolutely a treat. this ultra modern, Scandinavian designed prop{try is right on the water, views can't get any better than that. Exceptional experience, unparalleled value, extraordinary location- will definitely stay again.

Great stay! Super close to the Blue Lagoon. Quiet, clean and safe. No issues getting the check in code. Must stay if you plan on a late night Blue Lagoon and want somewhere close to stay.

This was a great place to stay while visiting Iceland. The staff was friendly and made me feel at home. I fad nice conversations with Klara. From my heart, thank you. Hope to return someday.

Very nice place. I only spent one night there on my way back to airport and the blue lagoon. It's about 4 miles straight shot drive to the blue lagoon. It's a guesthouse so you share bathrooms with everyone. But when I was there there weren't many people.

There's a kitchen, common dining area, glasses and it's clean. They have nice towels and the inside is the building is well kept and seems newer.

Loved the free tumble drier! Amazing after soaking wet bike ride! Rooms good, well presented.

This guest house is located in Grindavik which is only 15 minutes away from the blue lagoon. The guest house is quite nice and the rooms are very spacious and comfortable...

Nice, quiet, clean place. Check in was easy. Also there is a good restaurant just across the parking place.
