Oh my word. San Damiano is beautiful. It is the place, where in 1205 St Francis heard God speak through a beautiful cross. It has not changed much since that time apart from some repairs and improvements. It is a place of prayer and quiet reflection. It is definitely worth a visit to look round and pray.

The most spiritual place in Assisi, perhaps rivaled only by Portiuncula. Nowhere else can you feel so intensely what St. Francis felt. Not experiencing it means not visiting Assisi.

Ready to drive to with a small parking area and nearby WC. This is the site of the chapel first adopted and rebuilt by St. Francis. Later it was the convent of St. Clare, who lived and died here, and the Poor Sisters. You can reserve a tour time online via the Sanctuary's website. The tour is free and self guided. There are pamphlets in multiple languages with details about each stop on the tour, plus signage in Italian and English.

Beautiful serene place. When in Assisi be sure to visit this monastery. The road to it with stunning views. A challenge when it is very hot. Quite steep.

This is a well loved and beautifully cared for Franciscan shrine. Certainly worth a visit. The walk down from the town of Assisi is well signposted and lovingly maintained. The different aspects of San Damiano are well documented and labelled in English and Italian. The bookshop has wonderful display of artwork and the canticle the

Extremely different to the lavish buildings in nearby Assisi. A very sombering and soothing experience. Well worth a visit regardless of Faith or none.

San Damiano is the kind of place that has to be felt from the heart. I hardly stepped on the land full of olive trees I was in tears. The beauty, serenity, divinity is just indescribable. If you feel close to Santa Chiara and Francesco, this is a place not to miss. The convent and its courtyard is kept in a beautiful state.

While it no longer houses the original San Daminao cross (that one hangs in the Basilica of St. Clare), definitely still check out this church. It provides an excellent glimpse into the lives of the Poor Clare's, and is home to several notable places in St. Clare's life (including the place where she died). It is also, simply, a beautiful church which has stood the test of time. And the short walk to get there is amazing!

Great place, but too busy if you want a reflective visit. Some of the staff were grumpy which spoilt things. Ignore that and this is a beautiful.

Not in the center of Assisi, hence not crowded as other Holy places in the town. However, the tiny church is amazing as it also has a significant role in Christianism and Italian literature. St. Francis wrote the Canticle of the Sun here, known as the earliest known vernacular literature written in the Umbrian dialect of Italian.

Such a serene and full of good energy place. It is a bit outside of the other points of interest but definitely worth visiting it. Please read before the story of St Claire to make the visit much more meaningful.

San Damiano was an amazing way to spend an afternoon. Clare was a woman that should be known by everyone. She was strong and smart and directed. The walk to and from San Damiano had a pedestrian path- it is steep but passable- by a variety of different abilities. I saw people with walking sticks, people walking with a limp and young, old, healthy, and no so healthy looking. I strongly recommend you make the walk- AND- maintain the silence requested by the signs and Friars. This is one holy place and I hope you can make it to this beautiful site.

The grounds are beautiful. Because St. Francis is one of my favorite saints, I felt like I was in holy space.

Had the privilege of sharing Vespers with the monks. A very moving experience. Worth the effort.

The walk up from San Damiano is quite steep.

Beautiful place of true serenity, a lovely legacy to St Clare and her desire to follow the Franciscan way.
