Loved walking around the place .
Run down but then what do you expect for free .

Childhood memories and an oasis in an unexpected arid place. Invites us to slow down from the fast pace of life and stay still, feeling and sensing everything that surround us: the crickets in summer warm nights, the beautiful night sky filled with stars, the refreshing water of the lagoon, walking and feeling the scent of eucalyptus. A truly peaceful experience, almost spiritual.
The only setback is that in July and August the lagoon is far too crowded ad well as the beach bar ( which needed a different style both in decoration and musical selection)

The strangest archaeological site I have ever visited. An abandoned copper extraction mine with an apocalyptic scenario of ghostly buildings and a large toxic lagoon where the acidic waters display shades of red and yellow.

Enjoyed a wander around the old mine buildings and the flooded excavation pit with its peculiar red-stained water. Very peaceful and there were only a few other visitors. Well-signposted from the village. Worth an hour or two of exploration.

If you go by 4x4 it’s the best option to explore all the surroundings.

Incredible spot in the south of portugal. Abandoned mines, with a lot of huge buildings you can walk in.

Amazing hike and no tourists at all. Loved the ruins of the offices and the factories at the other end. The scenery is absolutely brilliant, the pollution story behind it, not so much.

Amazing place to walk and discover part of our recent history, while taking some great pics at the same time. Has all the major structures with clear indications both in PT and EN.

Pretty creepy and awesome! Couldn't do the hike due to the too hot weather but it has to be great in spring!

Really beautiful and overwhelming to imagine the people who worked there throughout the century the mine was open and working.

O local é muito aprazível. Paisagem relaxante para caminhar pela praia e pelas ruínas, em especial fora da época balnear.

A día de hoy en realidad es un parque de "arqueología minera". Pueden visitar muchas de sus antiguas instalaciones con cuidado ya que en su mayor parte son edificios en ruinas lo que encontramos. Esta antigua mina en realidad forma parte de la franja pirítica de Huelva que en parte continúa hasta Portugal. Es interesante la visita.
