We visited 8/20/2024 prior to embarking on a twilight river cruise. It's a very nice small museum featuring many turn of the century items. Budget about an hour to see it.

The day before our visit we took a 5-hour river cruise where the history of many of the islands were described. It was impossible to remember it all so I asked if there were any books that described the most popular ones and it turns out that there are two: "Meandering Among the Islands" and "The Thousand Islands: 101 Points of Interest...and then some". The former has detailed descriptions whereas the latter has generally shorter summaries but is accompanied with nautical maps. I'd recommend getting both as they complement each other.

But what really made my day was that I got to meet Judy Keeler, the co-author of each book, who just happened to be at the museum for a meeting!

I would also like to especially thank Andrea, the museum’s dedicated docent, for her tour and extra information.

Such a neat museum with loads of history on the islands- this is definitely THE place to go if you're curious to know the story behind the islands, boats, and the people that lived here. The staff was super friendly and invested in the history.

Fantastic museum, extremely helpful and knowledgeable docents. Plenty of history about the Islands. Allow yourself an hour to see everything. Some great fiction and non-fiction to buy about the 1000 Islands on your way out. Nice stop rain or shine

Very nice and friendly staff. Museum had interesting displays. Was hoping to see more of a store setting since it use to be a store but none the less a great museum to bring your family. Bought a book about Boldt Castle in the small gift shop. Free, donation box.

A very neat place to check out in Alexandria Bay, it offers a wealth of history of the local area and some nationally known pastimes as well. They are tucked away off the main drag, so you definitely should venture over and check the museum out. There is no admission charge, but donations are graciously accepted.

The volunteers who run this museum are heroes for preserving a town’s (and region’s) history as thoroughly as this. They’ve given a great gift to anyone interested in the history of the 1000 Islands.

A wonderful little museum with a great mix of local history. Skiffs, boat history, street races in late 1930's, printing, and family history. Three floors. If that is a problem, just the main floor is worth it. Donations accepted.

If you enjoy history this is a definite stop when in A Bay. I was amazed at all there was to see. I could have easily spent two or more hours looking and talking to the caretaker which is like talking to a favorite uncle you haven't seen in a while.

Great little free museum and a good addition to round out the day after a boat trip out of A-Bay. Good place to while away an hour if it's raining too.

Interesting. A good portion of the museum is boat and water focused, which isn't my favroite,, but I still found it overall interesting. And hey it's free!

Cute little museum with a couple cool old wooden boats and a live-stream of diving on a shipwreck outside the rear windows. Free!
