I had never done Pilates before signing up for sessions with Jane, and had no idea what to expect. I am very glad I signed up. I am finding taking the time to focus on my body and what it needs really beneficial, both physically and mentally. Sessions are a moment of calm in a busy week. I really appreciate how Jane explains the purpose of each exercise and how Pilates works. I am getting a much better understanding of my body and how to improve strength and flexibility. Jane keeps the exercises varied and adapted to how I feel each week, which wouldn't happen in a group session.

Having experienced Jane's Pilates classes at the studio in Durham UK, I am thoroughly impressed. Her expertise and guidance create a welcoming and effective environment. When I moved to live in Durham, I started to find a Pilate studio that offer 1v1 session. I'm really happy that I joined Jane. She is very professional and always have clear instruction during the session. As a college student, I have a lot of desk work, and the regular weekly Pilate exercise really relieved the discomfort in my back. I really appreciate that Jane make every session fit my needs. Highly recommend!!!!!!!!

I am someone who does not like joining group exercise classes as I do not think a class teacher can provide the required attention to each individual for the person to execute the movements in the correct manner. I believe in getting taught the correct way to execute each movements in order to gain the desired benefits and not cause damage to oneself from incorrect alignments and movements. One can only get to learn the correct methods of movement from working one to one with an attentive, experienced teacher who can instantly pick up your individual, specific needs.

I consider myself truly extremely fortunate to have found Jane to teach me Pilates. She has all the attributes of being a great instructor. She is a highly experienced teacher with decades of personal practice in Pilates who provides her full attention to identify your specific needs and gives you full explanations and guidance for each and every movement, starting from the very basic foundations. She is very gentle in her approach and is extremely patient. She is very focused during the sessions, ensuring that I get the most out of each. She is very generous and has a great sense of humour too.

When I first decided a year ago that I was going to try to learn Pilates to keep my body supple and active, I was not too sure what to expect from it. Fortunately, through searching online for a local Pilates instructor, I found Jane. And my journey to learn Pilates has been a truly delightful as well as an addictive experience. I have discovered lots about the habits of incorrect posture and ways of movement I have developed over the years which are not helpful for myself. I am delighted to learn the mind-body connection that is required to execute the Pilates movements using correct techniques, whether those be done on the mat or using the amazing Reformer, Cadillac and various other props. The sense of achievement I get after each session is very thrilling and addictive.

I am so glad to have found a superb private studio with all the necessary equipments to learn to move my body in a mindful manner under the supervision of an amazingly attuned instructor who recognises and meets all my learning requirements. I am so looking forward to continuing to learn Pilates with Jane for many more years to come. I think I will only stop when I can no longer move!

I sincerely would like to advise everyone who wishes to learn to practice Pilates in the correct way to not waste their time, money and effort on going to any other studios but go and learn at Jane’s. I really don’t think that there could be another Pilates studio with an instructor of this calibre around the whole of the Northeast that could match this one.

I’m really grateful that I found Jane Pilates Studio, it has helped with my shoulder and back problems. It has also eased a lot of pain by strengthening the muscles.

I have been attending Jane's mathwork class for over 2.5 years and enjoyed the benefits of pilates under her expert instruction. Jane has a great teaching style that is combined with a detailed knowledge of pilates and physiology. My advice to any men thinking of improving their core strength, mobility and muscular toning is just join up and do it!

Initially I went to Alex for help with my posture and strength whilst rowing competitively. However, after I was run-over by a bus she became central to my rehabilitation, helping me to make a recovery that continues to be described by my doctors as miraculous.

She is encouraging whist not demanding more than you are capable of, intelligent and thoughtful in devising a personalised program for fitness or rehabilitation, and a great friend and joy to work with.

I went to Alex for instruction in Pilates for some help with a persistent muscle strain and exercises to maintain a competitive edge within armature rowing. After a couple of weeks of working with her I had recovered from the injury which had troubled me for months, and noticed improvement in my strength. One of her great characteristics as an instructor is that she is so interested in tailoring the exercises you do to your body and aims. She asked detailed questions about rowing as a sport and did her own reading to work out what would work best for me.

I had meant to only go to her until the strain was fixed, but I found the workouts so good for my physical and mental health whilst writing my PhD that I kept going to her for two years. At that point whist out cycling I was literally run over by a double decker bus. I broke my pubic bone in two places, 17 ribs, a collar bone, the supraspinatus shoulder tendon, and suffered some mild neve damage to one arm. After a month in hospital I had lost a quarter of my body weight though loss of muscle mass.

Over the next two and a half years she tailored the Pilates exercises to gradually restore my strength and flexibility to a point where I am now stronger than I was prior to the accident. The NHS did miraculous work in keeping me alive, but Alex (who worked alongside the advice from the NHS physiotherapists) is entirely responsible for my amazing rehabilitation. I had been advised that I would likely walk with a limp, but this has been avoided due to the exercises she recommended (I only limp if I am lazy and don’t do my mat exercises for a few days!).

I could write more about Alex’s gifted ability as a Pilates instructor. She brings such a wide range of personal experience (as a dancer, surfer, runner, with taekwondo…) and study (with Joe Pilate’s own Student Romana, in sports science, in osteopathy…) to her desire to make people happy in their bodies. For fitness or rehabilitation, you could not ask for a better or more supportive guide.
