Absolutely brilliant castle to visit. Steeped in history is well worth learning about. Unfortunately, I went on a drizzly Saturday , no fault of English Heritage at all. The member of staff in the kiosk was friendly and very helpful.
The voice box you get is highly recommended to get the full history. Also, I advise buying the guidebook.

A perfect winter walk to Berry Pomeroy English Heritage Castle from Marldon. The ruins of the castle are extensive, lots of interesting details and a great informative audio tour. I'd recommend booking if you want lunch in the cafe.

Lovely drive through the woods arriving at Berry Pomeroy Castle.
If you think you're lost that means you're in the right place just follow the Google maps.
The gard Tower is still standing tall & looks to be well looked after.
When inside the castle walls you can climb the stairs of the gard Tower to the middle level.
Most of the castle is fenced off you can still see inaide but are not allowed to enter.
Overall nice place to visit, plus you can go for a walk in the woods.

Really atmospheric ruins. Complicated history fascinating. Lots to see and good views from various points around the ruin. Currently ongoing masonry repairs with small parts fenced off for safety reasons though views of each area are still good. The cafe is a nice place to enjoy the surroundings with decent EH fare. Parking was easy when I went there in early February (weekends only in winter). May be a bit tight at busy times. The surrounding area has equally atmospheric woodland walks. Muddy in wet weather.

Beautiful location on the woods, overlooking the River Dart. Marvelous structure although much of it has collapsed. It still was an interesting visit, with several postings of historical significance.

Loved it. More to see here than I thought & very thorough & informative audio guide. A beautifully picturesque & tranquil spot (if you're brave enough to drive the route from the main road to the car park: although you are given more than enough warning of this on the website.)

The road in is narrow and long so might be a challenge when it is busy, but once you are on site it is totally worth it. Lovely ruined castle in beautiful surrounds. The audio guide is comprehensive and there are plenty of sign boards. Surrounded by nature and you can hear constant bird song. The castle itself is very impressive, night inside then it looks from the outside. Definitely worth a visit.

It's in a nice tranquil and secluded place. Location is on the back road between Totnes and the ring road to Paignton. It's a historical ruin that is haunted. It is a beautiful location to walk around. It's home to 6 species of rear bats, honey bees and many more wildlife. It's a sized castle to walk around as well as the grounds surrounding the castle. It has got a car park, cafe and restrooms. Prices are quite reasonable. great for family and friends to spend time together. And it's open for all ages and abilities.

Lovely castle ruins to explore and learn the history of the buildings by a very good audio guide. So much to see and dog friendly too. The receptionist in the ticket office/gift shop was very approachable and helpful. There is a small café on site which has very cheerful and helpful staff, with welcome drinks on a hot day. Good afternoon visit.

Had a great time looking around with our 2 boys who enjoyed running around and hiding.
Lovely cafe with great facilities too. It's definitely worth a visit.

Lovely English Heritage building. Toilets, cafe, picnic area and small shop on site. Audio guide available. Dogs welcome on leads (watch out for pheasants). Small car park, so may get busy at peak times. Delightful ruin to look around.

A brilliant visit! I love castles, and Berry Pomeroy was a wee gem. Very picturesque location and a good deal of ruins left to see and explore. Buy the guidebook as that has all the info you need.

Tucked away in the valley just outside Totnes is the ruins of what should have been a stately home to challenge Longleat in Somerset.

This was a fascinating place to find along with its rich history, including alleged hauntings! There is a bat colony living within a part of the castle ruins and this is sectioned off to prevent being disturbed.

The place is dog friendly, though advice is dogs are to be kept on leads. I would suggest good footwear as some of the steps are uneven and steep.

Entry was £7.50 for an adult, but we signed up to English Heritage.

There is a cafe onsite, this is not an English heritage run cafe and on Sundays they are quite busy, so be prepared to wait, or if you feel like it, pack a picnic!

The ticket office was being run by a young chap who was hugely knowledgeable about things pertaining to the history of the site but also much of the other places.

Well worth a visit! Plan to go back and view at a later time in the year and see if the spots that made my hairs stand on end, still elicit the same response!

Lovely ruin with good views and interesting heritage. Worth a visit, especially if you appreciate the sounds of nature. Don't be put off by the single track roads with passing places, every motorist we met was willing to help find a passing place by reversing where needed.

Absolutely gorgeous, the audio tour was in depth and interesting. Highly recommend, semi reachable by bus if you walk from Torquay up the footpaths to Cockington then on to Marldon, the schedule doesn't really allow to do a full return trip from the Torquay stops unfortunately.

Fantastic site, lovely quiet space with garden area out front - perfect for a picnic. But a little cafe there too, great food. The castle has an audio guide which is extremely interesting and informative.

A little hidden away but worth the effort, watch out for two speed bumps on the tight lane in. A fantastic location where you wouldn't expect to such a large castle, at the entrance a little hut with smiley staff ready to help, pay a little extra for gift aid which helps to maintain this castle, inside you find the castle is mainly a ruin but the radio guide feeds your imagination. After the castle there is a cafe to stop and fuel up, a good half day out or longer if you want to talk a walk around the outside of the castle.
Recommended.

Audio tour animated the experience. Quite a bit to look around, but be advised there is not much undercover. Didn't get to go to the cafe but it smelt delicious.

A hidden gem. Beautiful ruins in a stunning wooded valley. I love the Tudors so a bit of Seymour family history was great.
