Fabulous find! Nestled in a quiet valley with just the sound of wildlife it’s the perfect escape from everything. Cottage is clean, comfortable and warm with everything you need. Louise the host is lovely and the arrival gifts of homemade brownies and apple juice from their orchards was very welcome. We’ve already booked a second stay.

My fiancé and I stayed at the Highlands Holidays cottage over a long weekend in November and had a brilliant time at the cottage. It is actually the location I choose to propose, with the fire put in the garden lit under a clear sky, it was the perfect place for us to share the special moment.

It is located off a quiet road, with fantastic views across the hills and plenty of nearby walks to take. The drive into Monmouth is very short, and there's plenty of pubs and restaurants nearby to eat during the evening.

Louise and Rob were fantastic hosts, the property is very well kept and cosy for a weekend break. They provided freshy baked sourdough bread, and a delicious brownie. I recommend buying a bottle of their apple juice, absolutely delicious.

I can't recommend the property enough, we'll definitely be visiting again!

What a wonderful part of the world to spend some time getting away from it all. Lovely little cottage for 2 plus a greyhound. Well equipped and overlooking a lovely orchard. We had to brush up on our animal noises in an attempt to identify all the different calls. And there is so much to do close by, some lovely walks at Colonel's wood (just down the road), Nagshead Nature Reserve (15min drive away) and Chepstow Castle (25min drive away), being just a few that we enjoyed. Directions were clear, Louise made sure we were all settled and how to contact her if we needed anything, but otherwise we were left to embrace the scenery and peace of this fantastic area. Thank you.

We loved it here. Smallest campsite we have stayed at, which made it very relaxing. The kids (10 & 7) had a blast playing with the other children and the rope swing was a huge highlight/kept them entertained for hours!

We had a really decent sized pitch - nice not to be completely on top of the neighbouring tent! No road noise whatsoever.

The balance feels right between getting an authentic camping experience and facilities available to make life a little easier. Bonus of delicious apple juice for sale, too!

Fantastic location with loads of places close by.

Thank you Louise and family, we appreciate all the hard work and very much enjoyed what you’ve created.

My daughter (10) and I had a lovely two night camping stay here.

The site is simple but sufficient; a small field surrounded by trees with a slight slope with simple facilities. All was as described on the site's website. However, the location is truly wonderful.

Sat drinking my morning coffee, overlooking the valley, listening to nothing (absolutely nothing) other than the birds. This place was absolutely tranquil.

The owners popped up a few times and were super friendly and welcoming. They were great with plenty of local knowledge and able to guide us to some fantastic local walks. The local area is simply stunning and we could have spent much more time exploring.

If you want something simple, off grid, beautifully set with friendly owners, this is the place to be. Definitely recommended!

The cottage is really well equipped for a self catering holiday and located in a peaceful rural location ideally suited for walking with our dog. Louise and Rob are on site, friendly and helpful but respectful of your privacy, absolutely loved our week here.

Its a great little place to get away from the hustle and bustle. You fell truly submerged in nature. With minimal (hot showers, toilets & outside pot washing) amenities its just the right amount to make you feel comfortable but still a touch on the wild side of camping.
The owners are welcoming and accommodating and have great homemade produce on site. Their Apple juice from their orched is delicious.
Fire pits are provided and for a small fee you can purchase wood to take in those starry night skies.

Louise is most welcoming and well organised. The facilities simple but most adaequate and the showers really nice and strong.
The surrounding area is so beautiful and peaceful, that the purpose for my stay (which was not for pure relaxation) was actually really hard to achieve - I was side tracked by the most gorgeous walks, rivers and "me" time. Luckily the weather was mostly dry and sunny while the plants were still growing strong, thus offering plenty of foraging opportunities. And may I say: the Apple Juice is delicious!
In summary: a glorious summer retreat.

We had an amazing time surrounded by the beautiful countryside of Monmouth. Our group had the campsite to ourselves which was wonderful as we could let the dogs off their leads without having to worry who they were worrying and as the site is mostly secure and away from main roads, they were safe. We stayed in the wagon which was warm and comfortable with everything you could need. It is beautiful inside having been built by hand from scratch and very comfortable. It is set a little way from the main campsite with its own area but one still has a little walk to the two showers and loos. The showers and loos were very clean and the water hot. The only minus was the washing up water at the quirky washing up station was cold so we had to keep popping into the shower block for hot water.
My friends, who have a disable son stayed in the cottage which was perfect for him. The owners were extremely helpful and lovely and not at all intrusive but were on hand to help should help be required. We plan on coming back in 2025 and highly recommend the site.

We had a wonderful stay. The cottage was comfortable and the hosts very friendly. We loved the fresh eggs from their hens, homemade bread and the apple juice from their orchard.
It is a fantastic area to explore and so many interesting footpaths to walk. If we had booked for longer we would have made use of the fire pit outside and spent peaceful and happy times listening to bird song and the early wakening of bees busy starting pollinating - the patio was a lovely sun trap. The view from our window was lovely to see a gentle sprinkling of frost in the valley. We even happened upon a bat roosting which was a unique experience and herds of deer foraging in the woodlands nearby.
Something for people of all ages to enjoy, in my opinion.

We stayed at the Highlands Holiday campsite as a large group (18 people) over a long weekend in May, and were so impressed. We've been going on annual camping trips as a group for the last 14 years at different places around the UK, and we unanimously agreed that this was the best. We had an exclusive booking so had the whole site to ourselves, which I've never heard of being possible anywhere else, and was fabulous. We had campfires on which we cooked each night, and the site owners are very welcoming and friendly. The surrounding countryside is wonderful and there's plenty to see. We will definitely return!

Perfect place to get away from it all! We had a wonderful time at the cottage. The location's incredible, surrounded by beautiful woodland, right by the Wye valley, and only a short drive to Monmouth. There's loads to explore in the area and lots of great walks. The cottage is lovely, well-supplied, with a good bathroom, wifi, etc. Would definitely come back and use the campsite too. Thanks!

What an absolutely brilliant brilliant place this is! We have hired out the whole campsite three years in a row for mega birthday and other get togethers...
Louise and Rob could not be more hospitable, hooking us up with local caterers and twice organising (at extra cost) a lovely marquee to shelter in case of bad weather
It is an incredible location with amazing views across the valley, chickens and a proper tractor for the toddlers and lovely walks in the woods.
It is so amazing having the whole place to ourselves - campfires and marshmallows in the evenings and we hired a silent disco every year (recommended so you can keep partying as late as you want without annoying the neighbours or keeping up the toddlers!)
Would highly recommend for big friends/family get togethers!

Beautiful campsite in the middle of nature. Peaceful, secluded, intimate. Opportunity for short or long walks directly from the site along wooded river valleys. Nearby 10 mins to lovely historic Monmouth and of course the River Wye for canoeing or walks. The site is beautiful, clean and tidy. Louise and her team are friendly with helpful advice on what you might like to do. I would definitely come again. Thank you

What a fantastic place! Beautiful and peaceful and perfect for using it as a base to go mountain biking in the Forest of Dean. Lousie was a superb host. The fresh eggs and home baked bread were a lovely touch. Thank you!

Stopped on our way back to Devon whilst on a uk mini tour. Tucked away and quiet site with a back to basics feel. We were made to feel very welcome and given some great advice about the area. Yes the showers and loos need updating but are clean and tidy....showers were hot and had good power which is a plus for me. 30 minute walk through the woods to a great pub (Lion Inn) which had local beer and great food.....also a great plus 👍😁🍻

We stayed in the shepherds hut and it was the perfect cosy getaway. No signal or WiFi which for us was perfect! Local walks and we explored wye valley. Loved the little touches when we arrived. Just what we both needed!
