We went for an unplanned meal as a family of 5, service was excellent and the food was amazing. We all thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, couldn’t fault anything. Highly recommended and will definitely be going back.

The team were very welcoming and you could see the efforts gone to to make the stay as enjoyable as possible. The room was quiet and comfortable. Parking was convenient and included electric charging that was straight forward. Food was very good, I've recommended it to others during the stay. Thank you for a great experience!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Royal Sportsman. It is true that the rooms are quite compact but we had everything we needed for our 4 night stay. The bed was comfortable and everything was immaculately clean. The staff were all friendly and helpful, going out of their way to assist with parking and a special breakfast request. The breakfast is excellent with a good range of choice. We ate at the hotel on two evenings and the quality of the food and service were brilliant. Porthmadog was a great place to stay and we would certainly return to the Royal Sportsman without hesitation!

Excellent, traditional hospitality. The staff and management were fantastic, helpful and enabling.
Outstanding breakfasts where nothing was too much trouble.
They have a great chef who produced excellent evening meals.
We will definitely be staying again.

Hiked through snowdonia for 5 days and stopped in Portmadhog for a mid trip stayover. We were warmly welcomed and treated wonderfully by the lady who worked the 26th and the lady who worked the morning of the 27th. They were super accommodating despite our overall scruffiness, and treated us exceptionally. Dinner and breakfast were fantastic and we were never left wanting or waiting. Would highly recommend to anyone staying in this lovely town.

We had an excellent meal in the Royal Sportsman. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive and every effort was made to ensure that we were happy with our meal. There is a great selection of vegetarian options and the quality and presentation of the meals was top class. The price was surprisingly reasonable for such quality too.

Great place to stay . Nice rooms . Bit noisy at night outside . But soon quietens down.
Nice Welsh breakfast staff a bit up and down had to wait a long time for someone to take our order then had to wait for food a long time. Some staff were run off there feet while others just didn't care. Both guys who served us were extremel good one lad stood our for his excellent skills think he worked In the kitchen but was serving us that night. The bar lad was also efficient. As were the staff on reception and the lady who took our breakfast orders .

We walked in the day before our visit, to ask about booking the following day for our party of five. The receptionist was very friendly and efficient and had us booked in with ease.

Our meals were excellent! I’ve been vegan for around 26 years and it was one of the best vegan meals I’ve had when out for dinner.

I ordered the vegan schnitzel, followed by the chocolate truffle tart with ice cream and berries… the whole meal was absolutely delicious. Kudos to the chef for thinking outside the usual box of uninspired vegan offerings with the schnitzel and trimmings. Presentation of each dish was top notch, we really did feel special.

The rest of our table were all extremely satisfied also. So much so, we all said that The Royal Sportsman is going on our ‘keeper’ list!

Each staff member we encountered was extremely engaging, friendly and professional, each giving effortless service. We felt relaxed and looked after, in a way that wasn’t at all overbearing, instead a perfect balance… just lovely.

The decor is a beautiful fresh combination of modern eclectic with subtle art deco influences. My only ‘tweak’ would be softer, dimmer bulbs in the ceiling lights in the main restaurant area, the others agreed but it certainly wasn’t a deal breaker and we shall surely be returning soon.

Thanks TRS… see you soon!

The Ellis family 😊

Took a random motorbike trip out and the Royal Sportsman had a cancelled room. I stayed for the 2 days it's was available and continued my road tour from there. They had a covered and gated carpark. Food was amazing and the service was great. Thank you

Wonderful hotel, very clean and welcoming. Rooms available on the ground floor (in the courtyard). If disabled parking is required you are able to prebook it. Food is really nice, we had 2 nights with breakfast, and also ate in the restaurant in the evenings. Very nice and would return to the Royal Sportsman 😀

I travelled with my dog and stated in a room with its own entrance into a small courtyard. The car park was secure and under cover so great for leaving my dog in the car while I was eating. The room was passable clean though could do with a little updating. Having said that I would be very happy to stay here again.

Stayed two nights the rooms were lovely, the staff friendly and helpful .
The bar and restaurant lovely, the cocktail and gin selection and descriptions wonderful.
Food good , breakfast good selection n yummy.
Just a suggestion reception needs a revamp it's a little dated n doesn't reflect the hotel

While on holiday in Porthmadog to celebrate our anniversary we were looking for somewhere to eat. We have a large German Shepherd so the choice was limited. Although the Royal Sportsman normally allows dogs in the bar in the afternoon they kindly made an exception and we had the most delicious meal and delightful wine. The service was excellent and the staff were very helpful and welcoming making this a true anniversary meal to remember.
