The Stag on the River

Fantastic Sunday meal. Thank you so much 😍 Food was top notch - really tasty. Starters, mains and desserts. Service was spot on - really friendly but not overbearing. It was Sunday afternoon and they were really, really busy but our experience was really positive. Overall, fantastic experience and I can't wait to go back for more.

I stopped here for a romantic meal with my partner. The atmosphere was fantastic - Traditional pub meets unpretentious luxury. The location was stunning, we ate on the bank of the river with the gentle sound of flowing water in the background. The service was prompt, friendly and competent. BUT THE FOOD!.. was truly excellent! We shared the 22oz steak and I can honestly say it was one of the best steaks either of us had ever had. This is a wonderful place to enjoy a special night out or just a relaxing Saturday afternoon with friends. Maximum stars from me 🌟

We had such a lovely night away at The Stag. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and our evening meal was delicious. Every course was so well presented, tasty and great portion sizes. The room was a little small but beautifully decorated and very well equipped. The cooked breakfast was yummy and after a massive meal the night before, we didn't need a huge plate. Tasty, quality ingredients which really set us up for the day. Stunning outside seating space and peaceful location - super convenient for the A3 which you wouldn't even know was there. Thank you for a great stay.

Had heard about the Stag and it didn't disappoint. Location is great, staff particularly friendly and beer is good. Outside area is great place for drink or food on a summer day. Parking can be difficult on busy days, but worth the effort.

I went there today for my 50th. From the minute we got there to the minute we left, the staff were outstanding. The food was excellent and they treated us brilliantly. We’ll be back for sure. What a place!!!

Beautiful location, staff, food and a good nights sleep. Food was a little pricey paid £36 for one person at dinner. But the quality and taste was lovely. Each member of staff was so friendly I was very impressed. I stayed over night for work purposes, bed was very comfortable, clean and you can’t hear a thing. Breakfast was included in the room price which was served fresh at a time I selected. I’ll definitely be back

We had an after-funeral lunch for 16 guests at The Stag on the River. It was great. I chose to have it in part of the outside covered eating area by the river, which is decked out beautifully with a botanical theme and level for easy access. We had a buffet style finger-food lunch with handmade, warm Scotch eggs, sandwiches, cake and various other items, all fresh, delicious, nicely presented and plentiful. The wait staff checked in on us periodically to see if we needed anything. I'm vegetarian, we had a guest with a severe food allergy and two others with strong dislikes. During the planning stages, by phone, we ironed out all those potential wrinkles and the event went perfectly! It's just a shame that auntie couldn't be there; she would've loved it. Thank you all!

We had a lovely DBB- the room was quirky and beautiful! The bed was so comfortable we slept in.
Great choices on the menu for dinner and breakfast which did not disappoint when they arrived.

Went there for dinner with family.
I'm very celiac, had the most amazing gluten free battered fish and chips.
Had a lovely waiter serve us his name was Jack.
This is the first time been back in some years. Just amazing. Excellent service.

Excellent value room. Tastefully decorated to a high standard with multiple facilities available within the room - has everything you need and nothing you don't, lovely hot shower too. Initially on arriving in the evening, thought you might be able to hear noise from the pub downstairs, but no noise, really well sound-proofed or maybe room is further away from the pub area, then at night when it is very quiet, you can hear the wonderful gentle rushing of the running River Wey! Lovely breakfast too! Highly recommend staying here!

Random stop as we were just passing through, but a fabulous find! Friendly helpful staff, great service and the food was amazing! Highly recommend if you are in the neighborhood.

Came here for Sunday lunch and so pleased we did. The food was excellent and quick service too. Great choice of wines and champagnes by the glass. Really friendly service and very dog friendly. Dessert menu was amazing, I wanted to try all but we settled on the choux - yum! Partner had the lamb, it was a small portion but perfectly cooked and I had the chicken pie which was amazing. Thanks team, we will be back!

My friend booked for my birthday and we had afternoon tea here - staff were attentive, food was delicious 😋 👌🏻 I have previously been for evening meals and drinks too and always have a lovely experience!

Excellent food with really good service. Each course was really good. The Bloody Mary Prawn Cocktail was the best prawn cocktail I have ever had. The Sunday roasts (lamb and beef) were great and the desserts were to die for. Would highly recommend this place for food.

Wonderful (and great value) one-night stay here just after Christmas. The room was nicely decorated with a cosy feel, and thoughtful facilities (tea/coffee, milk per room in a fridge). And you're in the middle of the countryside with great walks all around. Breakfast was really generous, a great buffet and a choice of hot plate too. Would recommend again!

I have been coming to this establishment for years whenever I am making the crossing to Spain.
The place is simply fantastic . Outstanding service and food apart from being a lovely spot.
Today i had dessert and i can tell it was one of the most delicious things I ever had: white chocolate cheesecake with matcha ice-cream, simply delicious.
For sure the stag on the river is a mandatory stop in years to come, definitely.
