Absolutely stunning venue, we had our wedding there this summer (2024). They really allow you to put your own style on your wedding whilst still giving good guidance and help. We had a fab weekend with people camping in the field. Mel, Jo, and John made us feel so welcome they made the day go so smoothly giving us the chance to really relax and enjoy the day.

Despite very short notice for on-line order (1 hour) quite surprised but friendly farmers prepared some fresh lamb for us in 10 mins! The Herdwick Hogget Lamb T bone Chops were delicious on grill! Thank you. We'll pre-order next time not to give you so much hustle.

I didn't go the hotel but it's probably 5 star too! I booked the private tour and was touring with my family of 4 (including me).

*The sheep pen was on a mountain

Sheep very cute and service was very good. Jo, the person running the business, introduced us to every single one of the sheep and let us feed it and pet it. She also talked about the history of the farm and the different breeds of the sheep and how the breeds were like (appearance, what its useful for).

One thing to note though, the sheep will get very excited when they see the food and may jump and there will be a lot of poop on the ground so Jo will give you jackets and boots if you ask. Sherry, a naughty sheep there, was jumping on other sheep and sticking it's head in the bucket (that carried the food) to eat it!

Jo also had pet dogs that were very friendly. Towards the end, I saw a lot of other animals around their house that they have, like otters and ducks (Jo explained they weren't really ducks, just birds). I also saw a chicken running around, and Jo was so kind and gave me some bird food to feed it even though it wasn't planned in the tour! She also told us she was an artist and showed us her lovely drawings, then told us after she started the business she didn't have time to draw.

Even though it's supposed to be pre-booked, when I called on the day my family and I wanted to go Jo still let us pay for the tour and go.

The farm is a conservation effort, and when Jo told me that if the sheep had two babies, she couldn't afford to bring up the two. She also said the most she could make in a year was 100,000. Please go if you love sheep and want to help Jo make more money, she really is very nice! And by seeing how much she has done, I think she is a true animal lover.

The pictures below are the sheep and one of Jo's friendly dogs. If you are wondering why the sheep is black, it's because the older they get, the more their wool turns white. They're colour changing!

What a wonderful experience with the Herdwick sheep. Jo was a fantastic guide and gave a very informative talk about the sheep themselves and the various trials and tribulations around working with a heritage breed. The love for the animals shone through everything we were shown today and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys spending time with animals.

What a Gem of a place situated 10 minutes from Coniston. A working farm full of history, Beatrix Potter's house that you can stay in!! and lots of beautiful Herdwick sheep to admire and get to know if you stay for a Herdwick experience. Situated by a babbling river and nestled in the mountains. Need I say more? Beautiful

Jo McGrath,an artist who lives at Yew Tree with her family, gave us an incredible tour. We learned so much about sheep farming and harvesting wool. I had no idea the amount of work that went into it. I have so much respect for all that they do. We were able to feed the sheep and cows while we were there which was an added bonus! I’m so glad we toured this working farm while visiting the Lake District!

This is a well maintained farm, whose tennants clearly care a great deal for the flora and fauna. Buying fresh local produce is something we should all do, this farm shop offers great quality produce at sensible prices.
Highly recommended.
