Found a recommendation on r/Leicester and this is definitely the best fine dining place I've visited. It's my first Michelin star restaurant, which tells me I should earn more so I can try more of them. Everything was excellent, and many were unique as well. All the wait staff could answer questions about the dishes. Wine pairing included 6 glasses - I enjoyed the Francois Villard Viognier (which was enhanced by the cod) and Camin Larredya Juranco. Standout dishes were the Orkney scallops (raw and grilled) and Cornish cod (which would seem typical with its carrot sauce but was well executed). My favourite bits were the parts not on menu- the 3 small bites at the start and the petit four at the end. Would revisit l.

Normally I’m more of a “hearty fare” kind of diner and not really a fan of “fine diving” BUT John’s House is something rather special! From the moment you enter you are made to feel welcome and give exceptional personalised service. We found all of the staff to be a “cut above the ordinary” but most impressive by far is the food! Oh my word! How many exceptionally delicious things can one team pack onto a menu? Just SUPERB! Already booked in for our next visit!! Thanks John et al! A very memorable evening.

Thoroughly enjoyed the lunchtime menu with my wife. Great venue and excellent staff who were friendly and efficient. The food was amazing. The rolls were awesome! I have eaten at several Michelin star restaurants but this is my new favourite and I will be back for sure. Relaxing, friendly and great food. Ps. Had a little chuckle when using the mens toilet seeing the stuffed fox looking down 🤷‍♂😂

Everything was absolutely amazing from the first bite of those tiny mesmerising starters until the macarons with celery ganache that you will try at the end. All the courses were well timed and to mention that you will receive a lot of food, trust me you will not get out hungry from there:)

Amazing food and such a good little place with so much character. We did the 7 course menu. Expensive but absolutely worth every penny.

My wife and I chose John's House for our special Christmas celebration, and it was an experience filled with both remarkable highlights and a few disappointments.

The Michelin-starred journey through culinary excellence was undeniably the pinnacle of our visit. The chef's creations were nothing short of spectacular, each dish a testament to culinary mastery and artistry. The sommelier's selections perfectly complemented the flavors, enhancing the overall dining experience. The waitstaff added a layer of warmth and attentiveness that elevated the evening. Their knowledge and enthusiasm were commendable, guiding us through the courses with grace and professionalism.

However, our experience hit a snag when the restaurant manager insisted on the fixed 7-course menu without offering any alternatives. Her approach felt rigid and lacking in understanding for guests' preferences, which was disappointing given the restaurant's reputation for hospitality.

Another aspect that detracted from the otherwise serene atmosphere was a large, boisterous table amidst mostly couples. Their exuberance disrupted the tranquility of the evening, dampening the intimate ambiance that many patrons likely sought. In essence, John's House is a culinary haven, a place where gastronomic dreams come true thanks to the chef's expertise and the sommelier's guidance.

However, there's a need for the management to be more accommodating and flexible in addressing guests' preferences regarding menu choices. Additionally, maintaining a harmonious atmosphere, especially on special occasions like Christmas, would greatly enhance the overall experience for all diners.

We came here about 3 weeks ago, as the lockdown slowly eased. We were pleased with the precautions and safety measures put in place. A hand sanitizer was made available in the entrance, and staff also wore visors. None of those took away from the lovely atmosphere of the place and the staff were all very welcoming.

We went for the taster menu with wine flight and weren't disappointed at all. We also had a cocktail to start with.

The food was excellent with the first four dishes out if this world. While the final 3 were were very good, they didn't quite hit the levels of the first four. The mackerel dish and Tom's potatoes were our favourites. Each wine pairing suited the dish well also.

I'd highly recommend this place for a special treat. In total for two people who had a cocktail each, 7 course taster with wine pairing and tea/coffee, the bill came to £300. For the service and quality of food, I'm sure I'll be returning again for another special occasion.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars. Everything was lovely, food, service and all the little details. We went for 3 course lunch and were really looked after, sommelier was very knowledgeable, we both enjoyed all the food, cocktails, cheeses, wine all of it! I'd highly recommend coming
Will come back now for an evening meal when we can get in!

We went for the 7 Course Taster Menu, can say that the service and food was excellent, growing up in the area stone hurst farm has always had a place in my heart but to have a restaurant with its own produce makes the experience even better. We had snacks on arrival and in between courses, we liked most of the dishes on the taster menu but some we didn’t enjoy as much but that’s just personal preference and that’s what tasting menus are about.. to find out what tastes you prefer! Would highly recommend and will be coming back when the new menus come out.

Johns house has a great ambiance and the service is excellent. The star of the visit was of course the food. I can’t wait to go back for dinner next time.

We have visited John's House a lot over the years and we have never been disappointed by it. By far our favourite restaurant, the service is attentive but not overly so, the food and textures are just phenomenal and unlike some Michelin star restaurants, it has such a homely and comfortable feel. The taster menu is worth splashing out on, although the 3 course lunch menu is also amazing and we do flit between the two.

The staff are knowledgeable and the wine recommendations are always great! Perfect for a special occasion, I just wish we lived a little closer.

Had a lovely Saturday lunch here recently. They do a very-reasonably priced three course lunch menu which we went for, with a couple of choices of each of starter, main and dessert. It also has optional pre-dessert and cheese courses but we gave those a miss. We both had the same dishes: smoked salmon for starter, poached cod for main and a brown sugar cream for dessert. Everything was delicious, excellently cooked and not too heavy. Our white port and tonic cocktails were lovely too. Great value for money and tremendous food. Well worth a visit.

First class, niche dining in this quiet little Leicestershire village.
Continues to reach a great standard of quality.
All you would expect and more, from great service, perfect food and a brilliant sommelier to advise you in your wine choice.
Highly recommended. Why am I telling everyone about it - it'll just make it harder for us to get a reservation!?

I had a very enjoyable, first time visit to this Michelin starred restaurant. All the food was delicious, tasty rhubarb cocktail & triffle. Pork & hake were cooked to perfection. A tad too much garlic for both of us, but the service was exceptional.

Wow. What an absolute treat. Great venue, such lovely comfortable surroundings. Nicely attentive, friendly staff. And then of course the food. Heaven, from the first taste explosion as we sat waiting to go to our table with our drinks. Through to the last mouthful of - which do I choose first - chocolates and sweets to go with the coffee. Excellent paired wine suggestions. One very happy customer.
