The New Crown

It was an absolutely wonderful experience to dine here. The food is incredible, the staffs are so warm & welcoming and the ambience is lovely.

Since the New Crown it's owned by a Portuguese family, the menu and food have a good Portuguese touch. They also have a lot of live music events and that adds to their popularity.

Just a reminder : while it is open till late, the kitchen closes by 9 pm. Also getting reservations is advisable.

Food here is always amazing and the service is always good. The cocktails are always incredible

Always a great night at the new crown. It has a very nicely decorated eating area and with plenty of space with seating and bars its a local favourite. Much time and effort has been has been spent to ensure a certain quality throughout the establishment. Staff are very friendly and helpful. It's hard to find better gastro pubs in merthyr. The food is excellent 👌 with some signature dishes and vegan options everyone will be catered for.

A definite local or stop to make on a night out. Date night, lads night or quick stop it's a great place to grab a bite and a drink.

Not to mention the many music and other functions they cater for.

Update - We went again to The New Crown on the last day of our stay in Merthyr and tried to skewers (seafood skewer and chicken skewer), and both of them were absolutely fantastic.

Fab food and service, a really friendly place, and staff are so welcoming, clean, and spacious place to eat and relax, just what my friend and I were looking for, would 110% recommend and we will be going back very soon, thank you for the excellent food and welcome.

Loved The New Crown so much we came two nights in a row. The 1st night we had only just arrived in Merthyr Tydfil on a very busy Saturday night and didn't have a booking. The owner very kindly squeezed us in. It had a lovely buzzy atmosphere, the staff were friendly and efficient and the food was delicious and plentiful. The 2nd night was equally good. The chicken Espetada on the portugese part of the menu was really yummy and the Scampi was great too both with excellent chips. Desserts were great too.

Been here a few times now and good is always fab! Best of all they serve REAL chips here too. Fab prices, good value for money, great atmosphere and cab service. Will be back soon x

Great pub food choices of beer and wine food was lovely home cooked chips corn beef pie peas and gravy really tasty and tidy price we went in the daytime about half full but normally have to book table if you want meal in the evening staff friendly aswel plus a nice covered but outdoor area aswel

The food was lovely and the stuff was helpful and kind. Inside was full, but outside was plenty of space. Which is great for people who is smoking. Also even if it's cold not a problem there is outside heaters. I would recommend this place!

Today we took a group of young people for a celebration. We wanted them to try lots of new foods and flavours! The food was wonderful, the staff were kind and lovely and explained the menu and all the lovely food dishes! We all can not wait to come back. Highly recommend the prawns and sardines.

We came to The New Crown as a party of 10 and had a great evening. The team were super helpful throughout the booking process, the food and service were perfect and there's a good variety of food on the menu, including Portuguese and vegan options.

We arrived to a lovely band playing. Highly recommend, food was delicious, especially the Espetada. Very friendly & helpful staff.

Such a find! My partner and I travelled nearby to explore Brecon Beacons and came across this lovely Portuguese-owned pub. Owners are very friendly and the food was incredible. We got the mixed tapas, piri chicken and tiger prawns

Amazing space, lovely for summer outdoor seating and winter indoor cosyness. Excellent staff who are quick, polite and friendly. Food is standard pub fare

food was great, did look they needed a few extra staff due to it being so busy so service clearing up was a little slow. Will definitely being going again.

Absolutely first class dining ..Food was hot and delicious..Janin our waitress was so friendly and efficient..
Couldn't do enough to make sure we were happy..
She is expert when it comes to our drinks...Never let us run out and table sevice was brilliant...All in all we will definitely dine again and highly recommend this restaurant..
We eat out alot and are very particular..Forgot to mention I always check for clean toilets...these were spotless..Thank you for making our anniversary meal a lovely experience.

Visited recently for lunch and enjoyed my meal and pint of sagres very much. As my plate shows, a big portion for under £10 making the crown good value. We were sat in the conservatory listening to the jazz band. Looking forward to going again next time I'm in town
