Charnwood Dog School

I got in touch with Karl to get some advice on how to manage over excitement and pulling on the lead when visiting new places with my 2 year old lab Sanddie. After having a one to one, I really liked the way that Karl delivered the session so I signed onto the Beginner’s Gun Dog class, which we completed last week. I have enjoyed each session that we’ve had so far with Karl, he is extremely knowledgeable and teaches you how to train your dog in a fun and engaging way. I’ve definitely still got some work to do with Sanddie in new places, but I’ve started to see improvements since starting the sessions with Karl. I would definitely recommend Charnwood Dog School to anyone looking for a trainer. I’m looking forward to starting the Progressive Gun Dog class!

We’ve recently completed our beginner gun dog with Karl. We’d previously done a couple of private lessons and everything has been amazing. We have noticed such a difference in our Vizsla Betsy since working with Karl and Emma. Yes we train her but more than anything it’s equipped us with the skills to understand Betsy. The only negative is we didn’t find them sooner! Great people and genuine love for what they do. We will continue to use for private lessons and gin dog classes

We first used Charnwood dog school for their puppy class which we enjoyed and learnt a lot! Then when our pup turned into a teenager we went back to learn how to manage him, we were met with open arms and again educated and taught how to re teach an inquisitive one year old. We then went on to do some gundog work and eventually I brought along my older dog, they both absolutely love gun dog training and it’s taught me how to stay connected with them both, our issues around other dogs being more interesting than me are no longer issues. Our walks are so much more enjoyable and I have two happy dogs.
All of this with positive rewards, absolutely no consequences and the result is two happy dogs who want to be close to me.

Charnwood Dog School has been fantastic, a beautiful outdoor setting making Saturday mornings a pleasure with our pup.

We have attended the puppy course then continued to do puppy plus.
We’ve learnt so many training techniques and tips and it has also been great to be able to socialise our puppy with other dogs.

Karl and Emma are both friendly, approachable and most importantly knowledgeable, no question is too big or small.

We have really enjoyed the courses and would highly recommend anyone who is looking for puppy training to book on to one of Charnwood dog schools courses.

Finally found a great gundog school near me that emphasizes positive training, fun, puppy culture and has a great depth of knowledge on not just training but also understanding your dog's psychology and how to communicate more effectively. Our bond has strengthened, Nico's confidence had grown and we are becoming a more 'in-sync' team. And that's only after 2 sessions! Worth the money, totally enjoyable and can't wait to get back for the next lesson. Highly recommended! Thanks Karl & Emma!

Highly recommend! Emma and Karl have a fantastic, enthusiastic knowledge and love of what they do. This isn’t fancy tricks, it’s the stuff you need to know to make owning a dog an enjoyable and rewarding experience for both of you! They happily answer any specific questions you have and no question is too silly. Our puppy loved the classes and we always left feeling positive and confident about what we had learnt. We can’t wait to sign up for gun dog classes after the summer. After attending the puppy plus training we took our dog to the beach for the first time and let her practice her “off lead” recall… this was a really big deal for all of us, but she absolutely loved it as the photos will show.

We can’t recommend Charnwood Dog School enough. We completed puppy plus and Gundog grade 1.

The environment that the classes are held in is realistic to what you would experience in daily life compared to the ‘village hall’ type classes. Plenty of distractions and also plenty of tips and tricks from Emma and Karl at how to manage our dogs behaviour throughout these distractions.

Also great knowledge from Emma about how our dog is feeling in certain situations and, again, some tips at how to manage this. We now have a happier dog and walks are much more enjoyable 😊

Karl and Emma are brilliant trainers. Knowledgable, experienced and encouraging. The outdoor setting is beautiful. Lessons are a pleasure.

EXCELLENT!

We have used a number of services for our two dogs (home visit, 121, puppy class and puppy plus class so far) and would highly recommend Karl and Emma. They are professional, personable and superbly qualified and knowledgeable. Their passion to improve the lives of all types of dogs and their owners is very clear, through educating the owners and providing relevant actions and instructions. They make it easy and enjoyable too. We wouldn't use anyone else.

I would 110% recommend Charnwood dog school. Over the last 2 years I’ve done a number of their courses including puppy training, gun dog training and scent work. I have a Cavapoo so perhaps not your typical dog for some of these activities, but all the courses were good fun and we learnt lots of skills and techniques which we continue to use. One of the best things is the training is outside in their fields which I think is invaluable and not something many trainers offer.

Having recently adopted Sammy (7yo PWD), who had been passed from pillar to post - finding Emma and Karl has been a godsend!
We have done a few 1-1 sessions so far and the difference it has made already is astounding. Our walks are much more enjoyable, and training is now fun!
With the games we’ve learnt, advice on behaviour and the support they offer in-between, we feel like we understand Sammy so much more, have created a stronger bond and can finally tire him out! Their attitude to training and love for dogs, is so refreshing and we really look forward to our sessions. We can’t wait to learn more. Thank you!

We have been having 121 tuition with Karl and Emma for a short while and wow what a difference this has made to both of us. I have a young GSP who was a little out of control before we started and is now really progressing and so am I, which I think is important and worth noting , as when things go a little out of shape we need educating to. Karl and Emma are so knowledgeable and even more passionate about getting any issues sorted out, not just for the little lady but also advising me when I'm not doing things right. We feel so at ease in our lessons as they are both patient and never question going over things until you feel sure. When things do go awry they are always there to advise without hesitation with sound advise and a plan to get back on track. What is so lovely they are always so positive which really makes you feel much better when the going gets a little tough. The venue setting where they hold classes and 121's is an incredible environment. Having our time with them has been/is the best investment and and the added bonus we have fun at the same time.

Friendly, effective training from experts who clearly love dogs and know how to connect with them. Our dog had such a great time during gundog training sessions that she never wanted to leave!

Can’t rate them highly enough, they are kind consistent and effective, they don’t look for quick fixes but instead help you understand your dog and achieve results that last and that are enjoyable for both dog and owner , a partnership.

Amongst the scent training and obedience training we recently had Karl and Emma come out to help introduce our new puppy to existing older dog after the loss of our old girl and it was invaluable, we were all in a very difficult time grieving and all the videos out there showing old grieving dogs joyfully welcoming a new pup had us worried , we hoped for the same for Franz but it did the opposite as he didn’t want Nora around, having their support and not forcing it put us at ease and resulted in them becoming best friends within a couple of months with no drama, they are now inseparable and Franz is back to his old self - in fact a big puppy again! Anyone worried, trust the process it takes time but is so worth it ❤

Both Karl and Emma are a fantastic team both have experience and knowledge of all things dogs, they are positive reinforcement trainers, I have enjoyed all the classes I have attended from puppy classes to Gun dog training both in groups and on 121 sessions. Due to illness I'm Unable to go at the moment but I definitely will be going back with both of my dogs once fit enough.
I cant recommend this incredible Dog school.
Do it you won't regret it.

I can happily recommend Charnwood Dog School. Carl and Emma are exceptional trainers with a wealth of knowledge and a commitment to up-to-date date, ethical training methods. I attended their scentwork course and really enjoyed it, as did my dog. Beautiful training environment - relaxed atmosphere. They're able to cater for dogs that need a little more space. Absolutely amazing training, would highly recommend, they go at yours and the dogs pace. Daisy who would only go to a select few only took 3 goes at trusting the trainer here, the progress is on going as there is no quick fix but supporting us in situations helps. Thank you
