In the heart of the Lakes District is the Old Water View Inn who caters to the outdoor adventurous travelers who come to the area for hiking, biking, and enjoying the area's water sports. Their rooms are very comfortable and tidy, they have a nice common room for relaxing or playing games, a heated drying room to get your boots and clothes ready for the next day's adventures, a cozy outdoor bar, scrumptious breakfast and they'll make you a box lunch for the next day at a very reasonable price. We would highly recommend staying here.

We just had a drink in the garden. Fantastic beers and wines coffees and teas. Snacks too if you like. We just missed a red squirrel visit. Reasonably priced. Lovely service. Would recommend as.you come off the fells instead.of the White Lion.

A wonderful night stop over on Coast to Coast walk. Despite arriving early, the welcome from Dave was brilliant and added to by a simply delightful Riverside Bar. Dave's tour of facilities and overview of the walk was helpful. The room was very comfortable and had everything required to rest up overnight. The evening was spent in the extremely comfortable and relaxing main bar and lounge with fellow walkers. Jacket spuds were fresh, hot and delicious. Breakfast was very fresh and cooked individually. I will definitely be returning to OVW in the near future. Thanks to Dave and Andrea for a great stay, brilliant 👏

Called in to the outdoor cafe area of this lovely establishment on our way back to the Patterdale Hotel after a walk in the hills with my wife. It was a midweek-lunchtime so the place was quiet. We ordered coffee, hot chocolate and cake which were very nice and very welcome! We sat under the gazebo with lovely views over the river garden, watching the birds come and go. Lovely refreshments, great friendly service in a lovely environment - highly recommended; we'll be back!

After a long rainy hike we arrived here. We were glad to make use of the dry room, the fireplace heated community room and the large modern shower in the bathroom.
There was even a self service bar and we were offered a diner opportunity, which we gladly excepted. The ingredients for the cooked breakfast were locally sourced and the food tasted great.

I had a fantastic week, walking and hiking straight from the door. The hosts are marvellous, the rooms are clean and comfortable. Lots to do close by. The accommodation has lots of helpful literature and a tasty breakfast with local produce.

Only called in for a post-walk drink, having seen the sign on the road.
Lovely garden running down to the river.
Idyllic little spot.
Had a pint, dog had a swim, perfect end to a walk.👍🏼

Great location and friendly owners/staff. Breafkast was wonderful. Drying room was very useful as our boots were quite wet. The twin room was very clean and comfortable.

After a March up to Angle Tarn and back. The sign at the bottom of the small road pointed us in the direction of the Riverside Bar (at the back of this B&B)
What an amazing find. On a beautiful Easter Sunday, what more could be better than a couple of pints whilst the children eat cake and play by the river.
Lovey hosts. Assuming they're the owners. Very jealous that they live in this slice of paradise! Will be back!

Stopped off here because I promised the kids ice cream, so glad we did!

Lovely little atop off, I assume the owners served us, they were very pleasant.

Lovely beer while sitting watching an amazing view.

I'd certainly consider staying here in the future.

Where do I start...
The hosts. They are the nicest people you could meet, and I don't mean they make an effort I mean they become your friends, and this is apparent by the way the talk to you and in my apinion they become friends.
The food. Unfortunately we didn't get to eat in the evening here but we dit get to experience the breakfast, yes an experience and one that you don't want to miss. I thought at first the cooked breakfast being 5 items was a bit small but it was very good and filling, the toast and jam selection which is readily availible to buy and take home with you is amazing, locally made it is some of the best tasting jam I've had in a while.
We did have a baguette the first evening and it certainly did the job.
The acomidation. Well, we had the pleasure of the herdy hut, yep that's exactly what it is, a hut on wheels, a shepherd's hut to be exact and it was perfect. We had 2 night away for our 21st wedding anniversary and being leaders in scouting it was right up our ally, the beds was very comfortable and a kettle and hairdryer was a nice touch. The best part of the hut was the red squirrel the visited many times of the day lituraly a meter or 2 away from the day, David pointed him out when we first arrived but to honest he didn't need too, such a happy and carefree little chap just sitting and eating his nuts.
The bars. A mand bar in the garden and ab honesty bar in the house was the icing on the cake for me, how often do you get to pull your pint!! The selection of local gins went down like ice-cream with the better half and the local brewed beers were amazing, I don't normaly drink that much whem going away but the standard of the lacal beers was that good it would have been rood not too.
All I. All I would recommend this place to any one, weather you are hiking through for the night, a coue of days of longer this ace is the one!! We are looking for free time just so wee can return, it is a home from home and a break from the norm and a must for anyone wanting to visit the lakes.
Thank you so much for the stay we will be back.

We stopped off at the Riverside bar, after exploring the area. We seen the bar advertised on the side of the road. What a lovely unplanned visit, hidden around behind the bed and breakfast. This little gem had a beautiful beer garden with plenty of seating close to the bar also extra seating down a path to the river. The bar offers locally produced beers and gins. The bar was very busy that afternoon. Would definitely recommend calling in, the staff were very friendly and polite 👍 The the old water view looked a brilliant place to stay for a break in the lakes

A wonderful nights rest here while hiking the coast to coast walk.

I stayed in the Herdy Hut and had a great nights sleep.

One of the more pricey venues I stayed at but I think you get what you pay for.

I felt very welcomed on arrival, was given a tour of the house and shown my bathroom. I was very grateful for the bath after a long days hiking. I had a few pints at the bar and chilled in the large garden for a while.

Great place and will certainly stay again if hiking in the area…

We have been to the riverside outside bar twice during a nearby stay. Such a lovely find by the river. Some seating right down near the river or is an undercover area nearer the bar. So serene. A little gem! Does also do some food - jackets and sandwiches.

I stayed a few nights at Old Water View in the Shepherds Hut in October 2020, and it was the perfect base for my Lakes hiking. (In fact, negotiating a longer stay as it was so much better than the other accomodation I had arranged!) It was comfortable and warm, and I particularly appreciated the kit drying space in the main house. On top of that, the owners were absolutely lovely and outstandingly helpful; it was a total pleasure to meet them and stay there. Breakfast was also excellent, with delicious local produce. The cherry on the cake was the wildlife - kingfisher, dippers and red squirrels visible from the shepherds hut. Highly recommended - I hope to return one day!

What a great find this was for us. Only a short walk from where we were staying. We have passed it many times and didn't realise there was a bar in the gardens at the rear. I think it has been upgraded in the last couple of years and there are now advertising boards at the front. There are picnic tables in the garden which overlooks a lovely stream, very relaxing. We were so impressed with it, we visited again the following day. They also do bed and breakfast so I think we will give that a try next year. Definitely worth a visit.

We spend a very relaxing and restorative night at the Old Water View while hiking the Coast-to-Coast walk. This charming stone house is impeccably restored and spotlessly clean and located just along the river. We had a beautiful room with skylights looking onto the mountains, a room that Alfred Wainwright, who developed the Coast-to-Coast walk, had stayed in. The hosts, Andrea and Dave, are exceptionally kind and hikers themselves. They recommended and booked meals for us, gave us good advice and encouragement on the next section of the hike, and pointed out some wildlife gems. Highly recommend staying here if you can get in -- book early!
