We stayed at the Red Lion for 1 night for our mini moon mid week. When arrived we were already known by the Land rover crew as the honeymoon couple which was very sweet. When checking into the hotel we were upgraded to room 5 (apparently the best room in the hotel as it has a balcony too). The views from the room were stunning. The decor and the room fragrance smell was just amazing!!! So much detail had gone into it. The staff were genuinely really nice and helpful which went a long way.

Lunch in the harbour bar (takeaway):
A little over priced but super tasty! The chips were so good.

Dinner in the restaurant:
Tried lobster for the first time. You can see where they fish for them so the mileage to plate is nothing. Presentation and flavours of food were sxrummy.

Breakfast in the restaurant:
Continental to help yourself too and hot food ordered via waitress. Good quality ingredients again and very full by the end

Recommendations:
- would have liked a full length mirror to be more easily accessible in the wardrobe as the door didn't open a huge way.
-thicker pillows
-Hall way light to be automatic as it lit up the room a lot
-toilet roll holder to be in a different place as it was hard to get out of the shower when damp.

Wonderful stay. All the staff were excellent, friendly and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. A shout out to Jo who made us laugh so much, she's such a character and to Richard, the manager who went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Lovely food in the snug bar and breakfast was to die for. The Christmas lights, were as always very nice but a shame about the weather but we have booked again and are very much looking forward to going back. Thank you for a lovely stay.

This is the second time we've stayed here. Absolute gem of a hotel. Beautifully appointed and clean. The staff are so attentive and friendly, but professional. The breakfast choice is fantastic and delicious, as are the evening meals. You simply can't beat fish caught that day by the local fishermen. The best bit is when the visitor centre shuts for the day and you have the harbour to yourself (apart from other guests and the locals). So peaceful and tranquil. I would highly recommend and will be booking to stay again next year.

Only had lunch here, as the initial place where we wanted to go was only serving sandwiches for lunch.
We were impressed by the friendly team serving at the bar. Hard working young people and always with a smile on the face.
The meal prices were a bit on the higher side, however, all 3 dishes we ordered (fish cakes, beef burger and seafood platter) were nice and delicious.

We visited Clovelly and down the bottom of the hill in the harbour found this lovely place, pizza and chips were just what we needed, we ate outside overlooking the sea with patio heaters in. Lovely time

What a beautiful location. If you want to switch off surrounded by lapping water on the shoreline, then I can highly recommend room 18 in the Sail loft with full views of the bay right outside your spacious bedroom. The restaurant served a lovely breakfast and evening meal (seafood was delicious) and the snug bar had the feel of an old smugglers inn! We were woken fairly early with comings and goings in the street outside with the movement of barrels etc but that is to be expected given it is a working village/pub/restaurant. The room was right by the only driving route into the village but it didn't detract from our stay. The plus side of that of course is that you can park right outside and you don't have to drag luggage to your accommodation via a sledge! We have come home feeling rested and restored - Highly recommended.

We had a meal in the pub restaurant. It was by far the best fish and chips I have ever tasted. The batter was to die for. I never normally eat the batter as they are always soggy. This was beautiful cook to perfection.

We recently stayed at the Red Lion Hotel (29th Sep - 1st Oct) for my wife’s 30th Birthday. In summary this was a fantastic relaxed weekend away and one of the best breaks we have had together.

Our room was small but in that was absolutely perfect! This is a 1700s era hotel and inn on the harbour of a small working fishing village so anything huge or palatial would be completely out of place. The decor was beautiful and in particular the Rex Whistler bed spread and cushions were a lovely touch (for the full story visit Clovelly Silk at the top of the hill and speak to the really friendly and interesting chap who owns it).

The staff were all brilliant, nothing was too much trouble and most importantly were all really down to earth which made us feel at ease and at home (we don’t do hoity toity pretentiousness!). In particular we thought Jo was great and a real character - she spotted us when we were in the Clovelly Court Gardens at the top of the hill carrying half the Clovelly Soap Shop produce on sale that we’d bought (😂) and offered to take it back to the hotel for us which was really helpful.

The food was fantastic throughout - we ate in the Snug Bar on the first evening and the restaurant on the second - we both had a whole lobster which was delicious. A lot of the produce was grown in the Clovelly Court Garden from the tomatoes for the soup to the apples and blackberries for the crumble. Breakfast was also delicious on both mornings. It was great to have the contrast of the cosy and relaxed Snug Bar and the slightly more opulent Harbour Restaurant (with some interesting local paintings/photos/artifacts in both).

One of the bonuses of staying at the Red Lion is that you get to explore beautiful Clovelly when all of the other tourists aren’t around. Clovelly is truly a special place and our stay at the Red Lion was equally special - our heartfelt thanks for an incredible weekend to all the staff at the Red Lion, we will be back, again and again

We stopped here for a well earned drink after the walk down the cobble street from the top.

We took our drink and sat outside on the quay wall and enjoyed the view.

The staff were friendly and service was prompt. The pub was busy inside with people eating but also plenty of people sat outside too.

The food we saw looked really nice! Shame we didn’t stop for lunch now.

Absolutely beautiful views from our room at The Red Lion in Clovelly, and waking-up to the sound of the sea every morning was a delight. Really lovely staff who couldn't have done more to help us and delicious breakfast options. We could only stay a couple of nights but really looking forward to coming back soon!

We had a 5 night mini break. A late birthday present for me. The room was in a separate building with view of the Sea. Nice room
We had breakfast every morning and 2 Evening Meals. They were more pricy than we would usually spend but good food, well prepared and beautifuly presented. A special place...possibly a revisit...

We had a really enjoyable & relaxing two night stay at The Red Lion Hotel in Clovelly.

From the very start - Instructions were very clear and easy to follow in the way of email communication from the Hotel Staff for our approach to Clovelly, Hotel Parking, Access to the Hotel via car, what to see / do in the historic town and restuarant bookings within the Hotel.

We had two rooms booked which we were situated in the Sail Loft area which were both huge in size, well appointed, super comfortable and expectedly quiet.

The Hotel & Rooms command the most stunning & unobstrcutred views of the ocean and we were lucky to have perfect weather to take it all in.

Perfect location to walk the lower part of the town and Harbor along with using the Land Rover service ( complimentary if you stay in the hotel ) to take you up to the top of the hill to then walk down at your own liesure and explore Clovelly at any time of the day / night.

We had dinner both nights at the restaurant within the Hotel and were assisted in organising Lobster for one of the nights also which was delicious.

Overall the food was really nice, breakfast was equally as good, service / staff / views and location were all excellent and we had a really enjoyable and relaxing stay.

Wonderful two days including a murder mystery. Such fun with lovely food and great company. Hotel has been beautifully redecorated. Quite our favourite place to wind down. The staff are beyond praise. Thank you again.

We arrived only to discover food service had stopped at 2.30 pm; however, the kind lady said she had some hot pasties, which we gobbled up. We were delighted that the two vegetarian options were delicious and fairly priced.

We were also grateful for food to get us back up the incline!
