We had the most amazing time at your tunnel tours. It was so informative and I have told everyone who listens to make sure they go there. It really brought local history to life from recent wars all the way back through the ages. The only thing I truly regret is that it has taken me until now to go. Please don't make the same mistake and make sure you go and see the amazing tunnels and embark in the history of the area. Thank you again. xxxx

Had a brilliant time at this historical site, although the outdoor section is free to explore we chose to book an organised tour, excellent value at £8 for adults for a 90min+ tour. Saturday Steve was our fabulous tour guide and enthusiastically guided as through the tunnels which were not always level or brightly lit. He included everyone from all ages, locals and visitors alike. There was also a squirrel hunt and children's play area to keep the little ones amused.

The Cockney Knights were great at the Fort for the summer proms.

I love visiting the fort, recommend tunnel tours but even just for a walk and take in the views too. Great to learn about local history.

Spare a Fort for the bees experience - our original booking in April had to be postponed understandably due to inclement weather, but today made up for it. Beautiful sun, a chance to cool ourselves in the old powder store while getting a short intro on bees from their friendly enthusiastic volunteer, and seeing the setup of an uninhabited hive by the bee keeper. Time to don keeper suits to go up close to see the bees near the Victorian allotment site. It's a relaxed hands-on buzz with the bees, getting a chance to see a hive inspected, handle full combs, spot the queen, identify drones, workers and larvae, take lots of photos and ask as many questions as you like.
Ending the experience with a little spread of sandwiches, scones and beverage in the Pantry cafe after plus you own jar of honey and certificate to take home. You will need to be able to walk up from the pantry cafe to the site. So sensible footwear and mobility is needed. Parking is included. A nicely presented experience.

A special day laid on mainly for children. But lots to see . The site is not best suited for the Elderly or Disabled due to the age of the place.
On a normal day the fort is open to visitors to show the some of the vast history Medway has to offer. Not a very big car park. But public car parks are very close..

Saturday Steve - what a hero. Took time at the end of a 2 hour tour to offer an extra 15 minutes guided up top. Engaging and amusing, enjoyed it much more than I imagined. Shame the coffee and cake cafe has no more substantial options.

Took a tour on Sunday with Archie. Archie was extremely knowledgeable and knew just the right amount of detail to share to keep the tour interesting and engaging but could go into a huge amount of background when asked questions. Archie made the tour very interactive, with guest interactions, participation and questions. He kept a mixed group of adults, children, locals and visitors captivated throughout. Thank you Archie!

Great place to visit especially on a day when they have an event going on. If you get a chance book for Halloween horror if you like a good scare. Tho Halloween horror is not for faint heart or small children.

Thank you Saturday Steve and crew for last night's ghost tour. At last after all these years I managed the tunnels . They were very patient and informative. Amazing work done by all volunteers. The restoration work and recovery of the site over the years is unbelievable Congratulations. Will be back to see the grounds in daylight . Sue.

We did a tour tunnel today with Barney as our guide. I'd be happy to give him and the place 6 stars if I could.

From arriving at the car park, Barney was a presence, letting us know the timings and arrangements. The cafe was very well priced, with plentiful choices.

Onto the tour, and we were immediately made to feel welcome with some warm, friendly humour and an outline of what to expect. The tour itself was outstanding, but be sure to wrap up as it is very cold inside. Barney was a master at delivering an informative experience, really bringing it all to life. He used the kids in the group to excellent effect, ensuring they were as involved as possible. In fact, our nephews, who are 10 and 7 years old, were both fully engaged and enthused at all times, the sign of a great guide.

Once the official tour had been completed, Barney took those who were interested for an additional tour of the site. In total, we'd been engaged for about 2.5 hours, which despite the cold had flown by.

I would recommend a visit or tour to this fantastic place and thank you to all involved for making it such a great experience.

I'm not much of a history buff but I really enjoyed this tour.

It was very informative and really interesting without getting boring!

My step son thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our tour guide was very interactive and great at getting our shy 6 year old involved.

Made a great day out 😊

I did a Bee keeping experience here and it was fantastic. I learnt so many fascinating facts from 2 lovely people who really knew their stuff. The afternoon tea at the end was the icing on the cake.

Fort Amherst in Chatham is an absolutely brilliant part of Medway History. Our visit was made truly unforgettable by the incredible tour guide, Dave. His passion for history and knowledge about the fort's significance brought every corner to life. The historical significance of Fort Amherst was magnified by Dave's expert guidance, making us feel connected to the past in a profound and meaningful way. We left feeling enlightened, inspired, and grateful for the opportunity to experience such a remarkable and vital piece of history with such an exceptional guide. If I could give it 6 Stars I would.

Had the pleasure of attending the Bee keeping experience yesterday. It was absolutely incredible!
You start with a really interesting talk about the history and importance of bees. Rob our guide was really knowledgeable and explained everything in such an interesting way. You then get to meet the bees in their hives (suited of course) they provide a lovely lunch and you even get a jar of honey to take away.

Absolutely incredible experience, thoroughly recommend it. 🐝🐝

We prebooked the tour online, which was 2 hours plus a bonus unofficial 20 minutes in the grounds with Steve. He was an excellent tour guide in giving very interesting info throughout. It truly was a great value as tickets were comparatively inexpensive.

Walking paths were pretty easy, though a few flights of stairs, and we didn't find the tunnels claustrophobic.

Facilities were fine - there was ample parking, and a decent cafe and toilets that weee not fancy, but clean and dog friendly.

Lovely few hours wandering the grounds and exploring the grounds. Didnt do the tunnel tour but had a lovely walk and read all the info boards etc.
Lovely cafe with reasonably price snacks.
Ample parking which was free today but normally ANPR controlled by private firm.
Friendly staff.
Will be visiting again and next time will book a tunnel tour ( bookable online online)
