Birth Place Of Tarasankar

Birthplace of great novelist tara shankar bandopadhyay, eldest son of haridas bandopadhyay and prabhavati devi, he was revolutionist and sent to jail along with his two brothers. After coming out of jail he continued his service to the nation by social work and literature. He wrote 65 novels and many other stories as well, travelled many countries, wrote travel stories, composed songs. He was awarded ज्ञानपीठ gnanpith, sahitya academy, ravindra puraskar. Received padma bhushan. And most importantly he was nominated for nobel prize in 1971 (second person after ravindra nath tagore who has been nominated for nobel prize in literature from india). And posthumously nominated again in 1972 for nobel prize. His birthplace is maintained by local society and family members. His nephew directed us to the main place or building where took birth and got married. More and more people should come to this place, more maintenance work and renovation work should be done. Immediate Beaufication is required here, museum also requires lot of maintenance and renovation. Well directed path way should be constructed to his house. He was not an ordinary person, he dedicated his whole life to service of nation. A great man should be remembered in a unique style and gesture.

লাভপুর বাজারের মোড় থেকে যে রাস্তাটা সোজা স্টেশনের দিকে চলে গিয়েছে, সেটা ধরে বেশ কিছুটা পথ হাঁটতে হবে বলে দিলেন এক স্থানীয় বাসিন্দা৷ এই রাস্তা ধরে সোজা ১০ মিনিট এগোলে প্রথম পড়ে ‘ধাত্রীদেবতা'৷ সাহিত্যিকের উপন্যাসের নামেই হয়েছে নামকরণ৷ কেউ চিনিয়ে না দিলে চট করে বোঝার উপায় নেই এক পাড়ার অপ্রশস্ত পথের পাশে এটা তারাশঙ্করের স্মারক সংগ্রহশালা৷ এটিই ছিল বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়দের বৈঠকখানা ও কাছারিবাড়ি৷ এই সংগ্রহশালার দুটি ভবনে সাহিত্যিক ব্যবহৃত বিভিন্ন সামগ্রী রাখা আছে৷ এখনও চোখে পড়ে ‘ধাত্রীদেবতা'র সেই প্রাচীন ফলক৷

কথাসাহিত্যিক তারাশঙ্কর বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় -এর জন্মস্থান

Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay (23 July 1898– 14 September 1971) Born  Labhpur in Birbhum, son of Haridas Bandyopadhyay and Prabhavati Devi. He passed the Matriculation examination (1916) from Labhpur and took admission in IA at St Xavier's College, Calcutta.
He was imprisoned for one year (1930) for his political activities. He took active part in anti-fascist movements. He was a member of the West Bengal Bidhan Sabha for eight years and the Rajya Sabha for six years. He worked for some time in Kanpur and also had some dealings in coal.

Tarashankar wrote in a variety of genres but was primarily a novelist. His political ideas are reflected in his novels. His themes include communal riots, war, famine, the political implications of economic inequality, the independence movement, social conditions, the conflict of modernism with traditionalism etc. He wrote a total of 131 books. Prominent among his novels are Chaitali Ghurni (1931), Jalsa Ghar (1938), Dhatri Devata (1939), Kalindi (1940), Kavi (1944), Gana Devata (1943), Panchagram (1944), Hansuli Banker Upakatha (1947), Arogya Niketan (1953), Radha (1956), etc.

Some popular movies were based on his novels, among them, Dui Purus, Kalindi, Arogya Niketan, Jalsa Ghar, etc. He published three volumes of short stories. His famous short stories include 'Rasakali', 'Bedeni', 'Dak Harkara', He was also an artist and produced some fine paintings in his later years.
