Monastero di Cortona - Hotel & Spa

Montasero di Cortona is perhaps the most charming hotel we've ever stayed at. It's stunningly beautiful and the staff is so warm, friendly and courteous. When we arrived, we were greeted by name and given hand towels and a cold drink -- more than welcome after nearly 20 hours of travel. We requested an early check-in and they were able to accommodate us. The rooms are so lovely, the beams, decor, view, bathtub. Everything was perfect. The spa is amazing. Swimming in an ancient Roman cistern is, well, awesome. My wife got a treatment, a hand and foot massage, and absolutely loved it. The restaurant is great. Lovely presentation -- works of art. It's in a great location -- just a short walk to the piazza and all the shops and restaurants.
But really, I can't say enough about everyone at the hotel. The entire staff was wonderful. It makes all the difference in the world to feel so welcome. Our only regret is we weren't able to stay all 6 nights of our trip because they were booked. Stay here. You won't be disappointed.

Beautiful luxury 5 star accommodation in the heart of cortona.
The food was outstanding, and the staff are professional and will meet your needs for food, drinks, spa or comfort.
The night life was really fun with a traditional song and dance from the locals celebrating an event. Pizza in the town is amazing, if you arrive on a weekend please make a reservation at the restaurant you want as it as very busy on weekends.
Some people may see getting to this hotel in a car challenging, I thought it was amazing to drive in beautiful small cobble stone streets. The locals were very helpful.

Don’t know where to start…we have just returned from the most amazing 5 day break at the Monastero. From the second we walked in until moment we left we were met with most friendly, genuine, attentive staff at all levels. The building is beautiful, the rooms comfortable with huge beds and everything you need, clean towels daily and a turn down service with chocolate is a nice touch. Breakfast included is also excellent, again everything you need and a la carte items if you wish and served on the terrace too if you like to make it extra special. Bar fully stocked with everything you could think of and a hugely knowledgeable Bar Manager who will make you anything and his friendliness is another highlight of our stay. Cortona centre is 2 minutes away down a lovely street, every step a head turning moment with either the amazing view or the lanes, piazzas, decor and buildings. All in all we had the most amazing time in an amazing place, 5 stars is an understatement as it deserves more! There’s so much more I could say but if you visit Italy never mind just Tuscany you must come and stay here.

We just returned from our amazing trip in Cortona. This hotel, staff, food, spa, amenities were outstanding in our opinion. We had exceptional service from our arrival to our departure. Everyone made us feel at home, including but limited to Gabriela, Iulia, Tazania, Ilario, Claudio, Eva, just to name a few. That staff made our stay above and beyond our expectations. We would come back in a heart beat.

And I thought The Tuscanian Hotel in Lucca was out best hotel. That was a great hotel, this is an elite hotel. 10 stars for location, staff, room, restaurant and price. We will be back!!!

My partner and I had an exceptional stay at the Monastero di Cortona. Upon arrival, we were greeted with the kindest, most professional reception. The lobby itself is a work of art and beautifully decorated with an ornate crystal chandelier suspended from the original high monasterial ceilings. Throughout the property, it is clear that a careful attention to detail is paid. From the art and floral arrangements adorning the halls, to the stylish and comfortable rooms, stunning poolside courtyard, unique spa in an ancient Roman cistern, and elegant restaurant where you will dine next to 16th century frescoes. The town of Cortona is wonderful to visit, but staying at the Monastero is truly the best experience that you should not miss when travelling to Tuscany. Where else could you spend the night(s) in an exquisitely restored 15th century monastery turned 5-star hotel? Thank you to the fantastic staff for our memorable time in Cortona!

Our stay at the Monastero di Cortona was absolutely perfect! A 5 star experience! It all started with our welcome greetings, lovely note in our room, to the delicious breakfast served outside if you wished (on crisp linens, no lousy buffet here!), the quiet calm of the fountain, to the beauty of the well done accomodations. But the sure star of the show is the staff. The front desk is amazing, housekeeping was so attentive and bar service was fun! Cortona is a great base to get to Montelpulciano, Assisi, Arezzo and was the perfect option as our home base. We even enjoyed walking up the hill to get back to the hotel to work off all the delicious meals in the center of town! I don't write many reviews, but I had to after our stay here. And I never recommend a hotel based on staff since I wouldn't book a place just because a reviewer liked a particular employee, but the level of professionalism and engagement really set the tone for the best vacation ever! I only wish we had booked our stay in Rome with their sister property as that looked lovely as well. I thought it was a great value for the money. We stayed in a junior suite and loved having the sitting room, 2 bathrooms and the terrace overlooking the pool. Go ahead and book it, you won't regret it!!

I had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful hotel and from the moment I walked through the doors the service was welcoming, knowledgeable, considerate and professional. The decor & fitout is of a high standard, understated & elegant. I was fortunate to enjoy the facilities of the spa and treatments - both were excellent and so very welcomed after a period of extensive transit.
The restaurant, Gli Affreschi, executed outstanding dishes and the service I enjoyed was exemplary.

This is a fantastic hotel with wonderful history and atmosphere. There is a sense of calm and quiet everywhere . Our room was airy and spacious with great high ceilings , a legacy of its days as a monastery. The outdoor pool area and spa were superb with a really restful ambiance. Food was excellent and service was very good. The staff were extremely efficient ,helpful and above all, friendly.
One of the best hotels we have stayed in. We hope to return soon!

Stop shopping around for unique hotels in Tuscany… this is it! This hotel made me want to start a travel blog… I didn’t start one, but I thought about it 🤣. It was the most amazing experience. From Julia at the front desk to Andrea the artistic bartender, we were treated like royalty during our stay. Thank you Monastero for the kind service and elegant accommodations ❤

Our stay at Monastero di cortona could not have been much better. The staff is over the top kind. The whole property is beautiful, perched atop the hilly village on the hill/mountain. The breakfasts were wonderful, everything and anything you want, they have. Bacon, eggs, yogurt, fruit, granola, baked goods, coffee, tea, etc. They have outdoor and indoor dining available. You are assigned a start time on the hour for your breakfast arrival. The only real downside to our stay here was the presence of a group of loud Americans from the east coast. Really, everyone, I mean everyone else, was courteous, respectful and kind. It's actually embarrassing to witness the complete disregard for any other visitors besides themselves. Please, if you're used to being the loud one in the crowd, show some respect for the ambience this place affords. It's pretty annoying to fly across the ocean to get away from the people you end up having to tolerate at an otherwise lovely place. We also booked massages, around 90 usd for 45 minutes. We thought they were average, not quite a medium pressure we prefer. They include 30-60 minutes at the end to use the sauna, steam room and thermal bath. We will be staying here again. Please be aware of your surroundings and don't embarrass your fellow citizens if your stay here

Husband and I stayed here in September 2019, and I still think about the time we had here. Can't believe it's a 4-star hotel, because it was by far better than any other 5-stars I've stayed at before. Miss this place so much. The bedroom was beautiful, breakfast was exceptional, the spa/sauna was very relaxing and a very special experience. It was also the friendliness of the staff that made the entire experience shine. I miss Cortona, and I think it's this hotel that makes me miss the town even more.

Edit: I just realized I've already left a review for this place on my other account. I don't care! More people need to know how great this place is.

Cortona is already a great base ti visit surroundings across Tuscany and Umbria but this hotel is simply overwhelming in terms of location and origins.
A monastery that has been converted in an hotel with works having required almost 10 years to ensure to preserve the architectural features of it. Simply impressive.
Spacious rooms always immaculate in terms of cleaning and if you are lucky some of them have a fantastic view of the valley.
The SPA is simply beautiful in terms of layout.
The staff is on learning journey but is great in terms of kindness and efficiency.
The breakfast by the pool area during good weather is simply poetic.
The destiny of this hotel is unlimited in terms of potential and wish all the best for the future.
They all deserve it.

Spectacular. The staff, room, food and ambience- perfection. The staff in particular were just superb and went to the ends of the earth for us.

I can not recommend this hotel highly enough. The building itself - an old monastery - is stunning and our room had everything you could hope for, all done tastefully. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The staff are brilliant; helpful and happy without being overbearing. It’s the sort of hotel that surprises you with a host of unexpected details, like turning down your room at night, a welcome drink, and unordered extras at breakfast. It is also very reasonably priced compared to similar properties in the region.

A truly amazing place to stay ... beautiful hotel with gorgeous rooms & a wonderful spa. Our junior suite was so comfortable and elegant with an incredible view. The breakfast was delicious and was of a very good value. Every single member of the staff was friendly, kind and super helpful. We felt sad to leave ... highly recommended.

P.S. For those who still feel nervous to travel during the pandemic, I can confirm Covid-19 protocol was adhered to in the fullest extent.

We spent 3 nights here as part of a honeymoon tour around Italy. Having never been to Cortona before, we were blown away by the daylight views as well as the sunsets from our hotel room which very well appointed and extremely tastefully decorated. The whole building is beautiful and historic but like everything else in Cortona, at the top of a steep hill. The hotel only serves breakfast which is basic and they have a small bar in the evenings. The spa is stunning and well worth a visit. The staff are very warm and friendly and even gave us a bottle of prosecco on arrival to celebrate our wedding. If I am ever lucky enough to visit Cortona again, I will definitely stay at the Monastery.
