Riffelhaus 1853

If you are planning on heading up to Gornergrat do yourself a favor and enjoy a very relaxed lunch at Ridfelhaus. Spectacular views of matterhorn, great fondue + wine, and relaxed and friendly atmosphere :)

If you're looking for a hotel in an amazing location and unforgettable views this is the one.

The hotel is only accessible via the Gornergrat Tram which travels up the mountain, the journey up the mountain (30 mins) is beautiful but the tram only runs every half hour and the last trip to Riffelhaus is at approx 7pm. The tram tickets are very expensive, but if you get a ski pass you can get a deal but for 3 days skiing and the tram tickets for all 3 days it was approx $900 AUD. If you pre-purchase, it will be cheaper as they charge "surge" pricing when busy.

Dinner / Breakfast (half board) was excellent, you get a set menu every night but they did accommodate to dietary requirements and the food was excellent. We had 4 courses each night and you were never left hungry.

The team were amazing and really went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. The spa / sauna has a view of the Matterhorn and is a must. The hotel feels very intimate as they only have about 25 rooms so in the evenings you feel that you have the mountain to yourself.

The 'easy' ski runs near the resort are not so easy, but for a more confident skiier it would be excellent. The hotel has a beautiful balcony area where you can have a coffee or a wine during the day after skiing and it's worth a stop.

Wonderful staff, great location, and excellent meals. Thoroughly enjoyed our entire experience at the Riffelhaus 1853.
The only drawback was the exorbitant charge for tap water during lunch and dinner.

Although we came only for a quick drink during our MTB adventure we were amazed by the views and the location of the hotel. Waiters were very quick and pleasant and the staff in the hotel was very kind and helpful. Food looked great on the other tables but we had to continue our ascent to Gornegrat.

Came for a beer while hiking between stations. Beautiful views and friendly staff.

The location was just so inspirational. The hotel is small and very clean, every window in our room had an amazing mountain view. It’s one of those places you will never forget .

Very nice and cosy hotel located at 2500m, in the middle of all 4000m summits. Very central place for both shorts and longer hikes (depends on the motivation :)) Rooms have been recently renovated and very cosy. The SPA area is incredible, and we spent 6 hours (in 2 days) in the hammam, sauna, and jacuzzi area. Lovely. A good recommendation to spend a different experience, compared to staying in central Zermatt ;)

Amazing location, staff was very friendly and accommodating, will definitely come back. Only thing we would have liked was a mini fridge in the room, thanks for everything!!

Great place to stay! Directly on the slope for skiing.

Bed were not the most comfortable
Dinner is not the most kid friendly (due to waiting time)

Took the cogwheel train from Zermatt to Gornergrat early February. We were hiking down during a bad weather and spotted this restaurant. This restaurant was highly recommended, and it had a beautiful view of the area. So glad that we went in to warm up and get out of the storm. Our server was very nice and attentive. The lamb dish that my husband ordered was delicious.

When walking up in the mountains, we were expecting a more basic accomodation but were treated to what is definitely luxury high up in altitude. The rooms were excellent and views fantastic. The food was excellent as well. This almost had a resort feeling to it and we were happy with everything.

A big compliment to Tereza, who recommended a traditional swiss dish and paired it with beautiful wine. What an experience she had to give my friend and me. Tereza, you are unique, and you are an enormous credit to Reffelhaus.

We truly enjoyed our lunch, and the view from our table was second to none. The staff was very welcoming and genuinely lovely, one of the gentleman staff was also accommodating.

The food and drink bill was cheaper compared to Zermatt. For two big mains and two glasses of wine, it cost me £65. The view and not feeling being rush was all worth it !

Loved our stay here! The hotel's location is exceptional. We woke up looking directly at the Matterhorn as the first rays of sun touched its peak.

We booked half-board and were really glad we did; not only would it be too stressful to go eat in Zermatt and make it back with the Gornergratbahn in time, but we were served delicious cheese fondue one night, and had an amazing 'French evening' the other.

In winter, do take them up on the offer of having your baggage driven between the Gornergratbahn station and the hotel - the way is short, but partially slippery and difficult.

Very nice authentic mountain hotel in the middle of the Gornergrat slopes of Zermatt. The rooms are cute and have amazing direct views on the Matterhorn from the bed. The spa has the most beautiful views, with a huge sauna. Only little detail was the dinner which was a fix menu and not a huge choice, but the appetizer was really delicious.

We had lunch on the patio and the view was absolutely incredible. Food was good, not great, but certainly some of the best we’ve ever had at this altitude. Also got to watch some paragliders take off. Highly recommend.

We only came to eat, but the food was fantastic in an amazing location with wonderful views of the Matterhorn. Highly recommended
