Amazing!! The one-star reviews are from people who've never been to a place like Cozumel and who have super unrealistic expectations. You're not renting a car from a big company to use as regular transportation. You are just renting wheels for a day to get you around a beach island. Will the engine light go off and drive you nuts? Yep. Will it guzzle gas? Ya but you're only using it for a day so no worries. Will there be a license plate on it? Who cares, it's Cozumel!! The lady we picked it up from was super helpful and friendly. Gave us a little map and great directions. We rolled the windows down, drove out to Punta Morena, toured around the coast of the island and had an amazing time. The extra "insurance" everyone is crying about is $15. Ya, the ferry woman said it was optional, and the island woman said it was mandatory. Welcome to Mexico. Get over it. Our deposit was refunded back to my credit card right away, people are just confused because with some banks it takes a day or two for the authorization to come back off, but for us it did with zero issues. When you come to a place like this, you've gotta be flexible, and just go with the flow. If you want luxury, rent from Enterprise and take the ferry. If you want a ridiculous set of island wheels that will take you to the views, the tequila, and the beaches, come here!!

We walked off the ferry and spoke to Ivan, we rented 2 scooters for total $50 bucks including tax. We did not have to get the extra insurance. My husband ask what the deductible was and it higher than the actual cost to repair like a dent or scratch so it wasn't worth getting. We took videos of both scooters prior to leaving the location. Ivan allowed me time to go over how the scooter worked and to operate it until I felt comfortable. We could not find the gas station on way back so we paid him extra for the gas and we were ok with that. That was fair as we were supposed to bring back gased up. We had an overall great experience..This place is operating under the name Mantarrayas Rentals used to be Mahi Mahi..

Was apprehensive from some previous reviews, but had a great experience all around. Van was functional/super clean, and AC worked decent. Scuba gear was included with great suggestions for local areas to scuba dive, and staff was super friendly/helpful. Just hold your boundaries strong and don’t let them push anything you aren’t expecting or wanting.

Great prices and ease to rent a vehicle to move around the island. Friendly service and tips of where and what to do in Cozumel. We'll be coming back for our next trip.

For the Americans to be honest this review are wrong we went great they give us warning and where the cool plart are and all of that very good time good condition cars

Una experiencia que comentar para tener en cuenta. Aunque todo bien pero hay situaciones a tener en cuenta.

Sugiero rentar movilidades en el mismo lugar donde deseen conocer (en la experiencia vivida fue Cozumel) y no contratar en el Ferry. Es muy caro, puede que no detallen los servicios que deben brindar. Por otro lado, los costos son súper elevados. Sorprenden y emiten información parcial y no importante ni global.

Pregunten lo necesario e importante para la renta, nosotros lo hicimos. Dicen que incluyen todo y no es cierto. Indicaron que todo está incluído y pagado. Indicaron que en el local Mahi Mahi, entregarían las llaves nada más. No fue así, sorprenden. También se firmó documentación. Cobran otros aspectos, como garantía, seguro (esencial en la renta car) pero que el ferry la señorita del contacto indicø que estaban incluidos. No puedes dar la versión con la persona porque ya se está a kms., aunque enseñamos un vídeo. Y hasta la llamaron para corroborar lo expresado. Solo queda cancelar. Dejar garantía, pago de seguro ( muy muy importante). Ni modo. Nada podía limitar la alegría de conocer pero ojito, a tener cuidado.

Lo esencial:
Disfrutamos de las hermosas playas. Muchas de ellas, por lo menos de pasadita, pero todo una maravilla. Por la hora de entrega y por el cuidado del jeet (en nuestra experiencia). Estuvimos puntual para la entrega. Al llegar, cobraron más gasolina, antes se compró el combustible para que el tanque este lleno, de todos modos nos hicieron cancelar más pesos.

El trato muy amable buen Vehículo Cozumel es bellisimo Invitado a regresar.

Al menos la experiencia que me llevo de este lugar es muy buena, la atención y explicación a detalle de todo lo que podemos obtener si pagamos es muy bueno, en lo personal desconfiaba de estos locales pero este me dejó buena experiencia y volvería a rentar con ellos en mi próxima visita. el vehículo que rentamos fue una camioneta para 7 y funciona al 100, aparte de que te dan pases para no pagar nada en 2 club de playa muy buenos.

Excelente atención, muchos tips para tener en cuentA y recomendaciones, muy buen servicio, lo contratamos con el tiket del ferry a cozumel y nos salió mas barato

Average car hire supplier bu Cozumel standards, but a million miles from the popular up market brands like Hertz.
We were in a group of 6 adults, from UK, staying in Playa Del Carmen all-inclusive hotel. We planned a day on Cozumel ourselves and purchased tickets from the ferry port office (Around £13 each way - a fixed price wherever you get them).
Afterwards were were approached by a tour tout from Mahi Mahi shop, who explained (as we had read ourselves...), That these not much to do DIFFERENTLY over in Cozumel, only car hire (or snorkeling/ATVs or pay for a beach club).
We decided for a SUV and paid around £130 (Credit card), we were told that covered everything and NOT to let the shop on, the island sell anything else.
Once off the ferry, Wer walked for 10 mins to the shop and picked up the car. They needed a deposit (We used card but could leave cash) and a mandatory $15 (Dollars) mandatory insurance add-on to what we got. We challenged this but told the seller in PDC was wrong... And a choice of car / no ar! Anyway we paid and told to return the car full of feul.
To be fair £130 +$15 was very cheap but the car was, er...ummm cheap :) compared to any vehicle in the UK, it would have been written off as scrap. No license plates, lose seats door trim, grinding front breaks missing decals and lose trim throughout. The bodywork 'had seen some action!'.
The air-conditioning worked and the car started / stoppwd and that seems to be the only legal requirement.
The shop told us to avoid parking anywhere in Cozumel town and look out for cycle lanes. She said keep right as you go round the island to see the beaches, otherwise all we would see is jungle!
As mentioned most of (or all) the best beaches belong to beach club with some pay as you go and others a single one day up-front payment.

*Important bit - 1*
If you are in an all inclusive hotel don't bother with a beach club, just stay at your hotel. These are aimed at the cruise ships.

We found a Reggae bar and bought a couple of drinks - a plesent hour or so watching the waves crash on the rocks. Then left following the beach road (as explained earlier), but....

1Km down the road a Mexican cop on a bike popped out, flagged us down and took the driving license saying "BIG PROBLEM FOR US ALL" siad he'd keep the licence and to get it back and we needed to pay a BIG fine in Cozumel, as this road was closed to motor vehicles (TBH probably was with few / no signage). We expected him to say turn around and don't do it again. He hissed and paused, made fun of us not knowing his language and offered to let us off for 20 Dollars. We paid and returned the car, filling up en-route, not extra charges, deposit put back on the card, then got on the ferry back to PDC.
Somewhat of a disappointing day, but a life long story!
I gues his $20 "fine" has ruined any positive review I would give and probably persuade at least one of you readers from visiting. A shame for the local economy and personally I'd have preferred to pay the fine officially, but he made sure that was never going to happen. Have a fun day and many memories, but not like ours !

We had a good experience with Mahi Mahi rental company. Rented a double Scooter for $40 USD and paid $15 insurance. Hector(Agent) told there are 2 insurances one is Third Party Liability for $15(Mandatory) and full insurance for $25(optional). Hector had made copies of Driving License and Credit card which I didn’t like and wasn’t expected. Fortunately no major incidents occurred and Credit card copy was returned while returning back the vehicle.
